My partner and I run a marketing agency, so we have a lot of hard drives. Some are for our client work and some are for our personal work, which includes a lot of local images we utilize in our business as well.
One of our 3TB hard drives was not working at all, so we took it in to see if they could recover the data from it. While we didn't need it immediately, the content on it was important to us.
It turned out that the board on our hard drive (keep in mind I may be getting some of the terminology wrong, as I am not the expert in this realm) was really fried. You could literally see the place where it fried, with burn marks everywhere. It was definitely a tough job.
Matt was extremely thorough in his detailed analysis of what he was going to do, and throughout (and after) the project. The initial course of action Matt tried was unsuccessful. When that didn't work, he said the best course of action to take next was to get another drive (same brand/model) and take the components from that to try and replace the parts that were not working on the original broken drive and swap them. Fortunately we had a 1TB hard drive of the same brand/model and saved the data we had on there and brought the drive to him.
After some mixing and matching of multiple components from each, he was able to transfer ALL of the data to a new 4TB hard drive (and the new drive works great and was affordable).
While I do not know the pricing a project like this typically goes for, I am absolutely certain that you cannot and will not find a better deal anywhere.
I cannot recommend Monterey Computer & Smartphone Repair strongly enough. Thank you to Matt and the entire team, you are AMAZING!
(P.S. Due to their impeccable work and the team's disposition and demeanor, I was honestly surprised they did not have a perfect 5-star rating. I immediately went and read the lowest reviews. I could not believe what I was reading--one of them got a screen replacement, then they dropped the phone again and cracked it, and demanded a new one for free, and lived out of the country!!! RUFKM!!!. Also, I happened to read a 4 star one that raved about the service they received. Then why didn't you leave 5 stars? These online rankings, particularly for an industry like this, are the lifeblood for new non-referral business for them. Be...
Read moreJulian and Matthew were absolute lifesavers with my MacBook repair. From the beginning, they communicated clearly, gave me the price upfront, and explained everything in plain English. I had no idea that when a MacBook screen breaks, the whole top portion of the laptop has to be replaced, but they walked me through it step by step and made sure I understood. At another shop, I was left confused when they tried to sell me two “options” (a screen with an Apple logo and one without), without ever explaining what that even meant. Julian and Matthew, on the other hand, answered all my questions patiently and never made me feel like I needed to be a hardware expert.
Price-wise, the difference was night and day. The other shop’s quote for the part alone was nearly the same amount that Matthew and Julian charged me for the entire repair plus the part. For just a little more, I got the full service, the part installed, and the peace of mind of dealing with people who were upfront and honest. To my surprise, the screen they installed even had the Apple logo which I didn’t expect but really appreciated.
The turnaround time sealed the deal for me. I dropped my MacBook off on a Thursday and was told I’d have it by Tuesday, which already beat the week-long wait quoted by others. But Matthew actually went in on Saturday just to get it done early because he knew how badly I needed it for school. He called me that same afternoon to say it was ready only two days after I dropped it off. That kind of dedication and professionalism is rare. Honest, fast, and reliable. I’ll definitely be trusting them with all my...
Read moreMonterey Computer Repair is fantastic, there is no other word. My gaming PC has been crashing on me non-stop that last half-year or so, during which I'd tried to figure out what was wrong on my own. After getting fed up with my own troubleshooting I decided to take it to Redshift in New Monterey who charged me $100 to take 12 days to "figure out" that it had a "rootkit virus" (spoiler alert: it didn't), and when I got it back my crashing issues weren't only still there, but they seemed almost worse. On top of that, they reinstalled my OS to "fix" the "virus" so in addition to having nothing fixed, I was also forced to reinstall everything, get all my settings and customizations back to how they were, etc.
So, I did what I SHOULD have done in the first place-- took it to Monterey Computer Repair. Matt diagnosed it within 10 minutes as faulty RAM, and was diligent to make sure the right stick was isolated and replaced. Replacing it took a little longer than expected due to the holiday weekend, but was done way quicker AND way cheaper than Redshift, and my issue was ACTUALLY fixed. I've been gaming on it for 4 days now since getting it back and haven't even crashed once.
If you have any sort of computer hardware or software issue, no hesitation-- take it to Matt and the crew at Monterey Computer Repair. I'll be recommending you guys to anyone in the area that has computer issues for fast and affordable repairs. You deserve every single 5 star...
