Sapporo Sushi & Steakhouse — Restaurant in Monterey

THE MOST UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE at this restaurant.

I visited with my husband and my service dog last Friday. We were visiting Monterey for our business trip from DTLA and chose this place because they advertise outdoor seating.

Before our visit, I called to confirm that outdoor seating was available and that my service dog would be permitted. They assured me that it was fine, but informed me that reservations were not accepted and seating was on a first-come, first-served basis. We agreed to these terms.

This arrangement was satisfactory for us. Although my dog is a service animal, I always confirm with the establishment to ensure there are no issues.

Upon arrival, it became apparent that the restaurant did not actually have proper outdoor seating. I inquired again to verify this and was met with rudeness from the receptionist. Haha.

When we were shown the so-called outdoor seating, it was clear that it was not truly outdoor. There were only two tables positioned behind a door leading to the marina, which did not qualify as a proper outdoor dining area.

The worst part of the experience occurred when our server arrived. She did not greet us and immediately and aggressively instructed me to remove my dog's paws from the table.

I understand and respect regulations concerning pets indoors. However, my dog is a service animal, and I had confirmed twice with the restaurant about bringing her. Moreover, she was in her stroller the entire time.

It seems that some employees believe they have the authority to control customers, but before exercising such authority, they need to be thoroughly educated on the relevant

The server: Do not blame customers why you work weekends and not me. Confidence doesn't come from fake eyelashes and make-ups but from knowledge and education.

Ok so I do not want to give this place a bad review , but at the same time I can not give it a great a review because we did not have what we expected.... the food we did get was amazing we ordered a couple sushi rolls for appetizers and a kid chicken rice dinner with veggies that was huge for only 10 dollars... the staff was very friendly I Had my 16 month old son with us and the staff came over and amused him witch was very nice , it's in a beautiful spot over looking the bay ... but were they fell short with us is that we also ordered 2 entrees that looked and sounded amazing a steak with mushrooms in a mustard sauce with mash potatoes and a spicy chicken dish with cheese and other stuff that we were really looking forward to , the bad part is we never got them , I didn't realize that our waiter never put our entree order in even though he definitely took the order and wrote it down... having a 16 month old at a nice restaurant or any restaurant can get tricky sometimes and so when he started being fussy we decided we would just get our entrees to go and the check and head out , but when I told our waiter to please wrap up our entrees to go and bring us our check because our son was acting up he looked confused , he then brought me the check and our entrees were not on them , he never put them in and ge still didn't understand me when I asked him about the entrees and told him we still wanted them we just wanted them to go , it dawn on me that he never ordered them and we had been waiting for nouthing and at the point I did not want to order them and wait for them and I don't know if our waiter would have understood me if I had tried to do that .. so it was kinda of a bummer for us .. I would recommend this place it does have amazing views, awesome food and friendly staff you just need to over look the fact that it might not be everything you are...

I had a good experience at Sapporo Sushi and Steakhouse. Went down to celebrate a friend on her birthday and it was an all around hit with our group. The food was delicious, the hibachi show was entertaining, and the service was good.

We started our meal with the gyozas and delicious sushi rolls, definitely recommend the giant roll. For my main course, I had the hibachi filet mignon and lobster, which was cooked perfectly and served with soup, salad, vegetables, and rice. The hibachi chef was entertaining and kept us laughing throughout the meal. The only knock here was that the lobster tasted like it was cooked in teriyaki sauce. Still delicious, but want to level set for the folks who like plain or garlic butter lobster.

The cocktails were the only lowlight of the meal. They were a bit overpriced and not very good. However, the rest of the meal was so good that I didn't let the cocktails ruin my experience.

Overall, I would highly recommend Sapporo Sushi and Steakhouse to anyone looking for a delicious and fun dining experience. The food is great, the service is excellent, and the prices are reasonable.

This is by no means a fancy dining out establishment. If you are looking for a more high end dining experience, you may want to look elsewhere.
