Hidden fee alert!!!--Stage Coach Lodge will charge $25 for check-in after 10pm, which is not disclosed on their booking agent websites--their staff claimed it is disclosed on the booking agent website but I double checked their page and my confirmation email, the "late check in fee" was never mentioned at all. My booking agent website checked their webpage and acknowledged the late check-in fee is not written in the booking policy. Stage Coach Lodge really need to work with their booking agent on disclosure!
Whenever I visited non-chain hotels, I always call the front desk before my arrival just to make sure someone will be there when I arrive. This time, when I called at 9:24pm on 8/17, I was told this fee--it was the first time this fee came to my notice. I was driving from SF and the ETA was 11pm. The staff said they would charge late check-in fee. I told them it is unreasonable because my booking never mentioned it, the staff said word-by-word "it is on our website, you should have checked our website. If you are booking through a third party website, Expedia, booking.com, the booking page states we charge a late check in fee" I asked if this fee can be waived because of the failure of disclosure, the staff denied on the call and said this fee must be charged.
The staff's statement from the call is unacceptable--1st, if you are booking through a third party website, how many times will you check the hotel's official website after the booking? 2nd, it is hotel and booking agent's responsibility to disclose this fee prior to the booking. The staff should not lie that it was disclosed--even my booking website checked and confirmed the hotel did not write this in their booking policy! 3rd, it is not reasonable to have this late check-in fee at all--I visited so many hotels in so many places before, it is my first time encountered the charge of late check-in. Last time when I stayed in the Getaway in Carmel, the hotel called me via booking website because I did not check in when their staff was about to leave the property, so they would arrange key pick-up for me. After the cancellation with Stage Coach Lodge, I checked in past midnight in Monterey, this other hotel had their staff on site and did not charge late check-in fee. From my past experience and current experience in the area, this charge is very unreasonable.
I called the booking website twice, first time was to request cancellation and refund. The booking website called hotel and told me the hotel very firmly turned down my request. Second time, I requested this $25 to be waived or whoever failed to disclose (the booking website or the hotel) should cover it. The booking website agent had a long conversation with the hotel (I was on hold for 16 minutes), and the agent came back told me Stage Coach Lodge chose to cancel my reservation--it was close to midnight and inconvenient to find another hotel, but I agreed to this solution anyway. I don't want a disingenuous business to earn even a penny from me.
If you are going to stay in Monterey or Carmel, there are tons of hotels in this price range, no need to pick this one charging $25 to limit your...
Read moreThe room and cleanliness was decent for the price. Unfortunately this place has terrible business practices. After my stay I was fraudulently charged a $250 smoking fee. I was told if was because "the room smelled like smoke". When I said I never smoked in the room and this was an unjustified and unprofessional, they said they had evidence of smoking in the room, when I asked for a them to show me the evidence they did not provide any to me. I never smoked in the room at all during my stay. They said they had it on camera which I did see a couple cameras around the outside of the hotel but if they actually checked them they would only see me going outside to the smoking area throughout my entire stay or at least have provided me the evidence they said they had that they were unable to show me. This hotel is only out to rip you off so you feel robbed when leaving. Save your money and stay somewhere else or use that $250 on a nicer hotel because the staff here are in unprofessional, dishonest and only care about taking your money. It I would have known I would be charged a smoking fee either way I would have just smoked in room instead of using the smoking area the whole time I was there since I was charged for it anyway. These people are just scam artists doing whatever they can to get money from their guests. I was planning on staying there again until this happened as I am in Monterey around 3-4 times a month but their awful service and practices have lost them alwhat could have been a regular customer. Would not recommend to anyone. They see you as dollar signs not as guests, and intimidate the owner who was a foot taller then me? Good one he wouldn't even show me the evidence you said you had and wouldn't even give me his name and my 4 ft tall girlfriend was the one who mainly spoke with him was he intimidated by her too. That is laughable, you just wanted to scam people and saw an opportunity cause I am a smoker very poor business practice, your GM was very rude the whole time and your now accusing me of intimidating him. Well hope he doesn't get beat up by someones...
Read moreI was exhausted once Id finally made it to Stagecoach Lodge having driven from Los Angeles for over six hours. Unfortunately there was a computer glitch in my reservation through Booking.com and my room was shown as booked a year later! Instead of 2021, it was booked for 2022.. Our guest service associate watched my crestfallen expression yet kept a professional and pleasant demeanor all the while assuring me that these things can happen and he would do his best to accommodate our stay. I was doubly relieved and impressed by his kind and empathetic demeanor. He found us a room that was a better value than what was originally booked and he went the extra mile by answering all our questions regarding the area, sending us away with a map highlighting special locales with directiions he personally penned for us. He was accomodating, informative and welcoming! I have been traveling for the past 8 months with photography work utilizing hotel lodgings on a consistent basis. I must admit that exemplary service is a gift difficult to find nowadays. I recommend thie Stagecoach lodge to anyone staying overnight in Monterey Bay. The rooms are clean and spacious, the beds comfortable and cozy. The decor is also considerbly stylish for an older facility. I loved the signs on each door representing a themed location or historical figure native ito Monterey Bay.. The location is prime with everything within walking distance.from the lodge . From now on, I plan to make the Stagecoach Lodge my personal pick for future lodging and to spread the word to friends and family about this little gem of a hotel and how lovely my...
