My family and i decided to give neptune Beach a shot as a little get-away vacation. Seahorse Inn seemed to fit the bill for everything we were looking for and was budget friendly. 1st impressions of the hotel were fantastic. I really enjoyed the "old florida" style and almost retro feel of the hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and gave us some good ideas on local restaurants and attractions. Everything was clean, and for the most part, nothing major seemed lacking maintenance. We arrived a day early and didn't include that in our original booking, so we had to book a different room than our other 4 nights. Our 1st night, the room was on the 1st floor, a nice basic hotel type room. It was apparent it had been renovated somewhat recently(the ceiling fan was a great amenity to have). The Ac was ice cold, and the room was clean and smelled fresh. The walk out sliding door to the pool access was really nice, and the Adirondack style chairs were perfect to unwind and relax from a 14-hour drive. We moved to our 2nd floor room the 2nd day and boy was it nice! It was a little bigger than the 1st floor, and the view was fantastic. Again, the room had been recently renovated. It was also nice and clean. Everything about this property had me excited to come back, the pool was great, not over crowded, wasn't a big party, yet somewhere we could relax and have a great time and let our young teen boys enjoy themselves. The beach access from hotel property is great, super easy access, and only a 2 minute walk to the water. The lemon bar being next door was great for a mid day snack, prices were very reasonable, and the food was great. I highly recommend the Lemon bar lager, hard to beat a lemon shandy on a hot summer day!
Over the last few years, we have traveled to many Caribbean all inclusives and were slightly apprehensive about Neptune Beach area. I can say this, after the 1st day i was hooked, then after the 6 days we were there, The Seahorse Oceanfront Inn had absolutely become one of our families' favorite destinations. The hotel has the coolest vibe, the local amenities, and the locals made this trip one to remember. SEAHORSE INN, YOU ROCK! we can't wait to come back,...
Read moreWe love coming to Neptune Beach and staying at the Seahorse. We have done it every year except a few and our kids have grown up coming here. The last time we visited was 2021, and we finally got back this summer. While, we enjoyed our stay and still love the Seahorse, it was apparent to us and I think anyone who has been here many times before that the change in ownership has had an impact.
We were disappointed to find out there were no more breakfast baskets, which I understand times change especially with rising costs. Every time I walked past the office I always had to do a double take as it didn't look open. The lights were never on or something. It wasn't inviting like it used to be where you could go in, get coffee, newspaper, beach towels etc. The property in general doesn't appear to be maintained though at the level of standards it once had. Two of the gates on the property are broken and don't require a key card to enter (especially the one from the beach, which is a bit of a safety issue in my opinion. Anyone can now help themselves to the courtyard area). One of the rinsing stations by the pool has poor water pressure and barely works. Our air conditioner was leaking the entire trip too. It wasn't a huge issue and the first night it was noticed by maintenance as it was leaking over the balcony and they came to fix it however, it did have a slow leak the rest of the trip. The shower dispensers also didn't work very well, and we did see a roach one of the days in the bathroom. I'm not one to complain, I just suck it up and move on. We love the atmosphere so much of this hotel and the small town vibe and how you can walk everywhere you want to go so a few small things didn't impact our stay whatsoever. Like I said, I could tell something was different from all of the previous times we had been there, and it makes me sad to think that the end could be near for this small little Florida hotel to make way for a big high rise. Thanks for fitting us in last minute with our reservation. We did truly have a great time and hope to continue making memories at the Seahorse...
Read moreLocation Great; Rooms and Everything Else: Pretty Bad Review of Seahorse Oceanfront Inn Pending review The location is prime, and the view from our balcony was so nice. My more negative feedback is based on the room and the stay in general. We stayed for two nights to celebrate our anniversary, and had a great experience with the front desk lady who works in the evenings-she was extremely kind, welcoming, helpful... really great person. Sadly, the bigger picture of our stay itself wasn’t the greatest. The rooms smell of mildew significantly, this was to the point that my clothes and hair wreaked of mildew and I am still washing my clothes to get the smell out. The WiFi is horrendous and we had no cell service. I got shut out of the WiFi probably every five minutes. Because it was our anniversary, we kindly asked for a later check out for 12 PM, and the first woman we interacted with put it in the computer for us. The day we were supposed to leave, I’m getting dressed and at 11:05 AM (not even exaggerating) the cleaning lady pounds on our door and then opens it aggressively, in which my boyfriend told her we had a late checkout. She responded angrily, “you can’t do that you have to call”, and slams the door in his face. Wow what a lovely way to spend the last day of our anniversary staycation especially during this difficult time. To make it even more annoying, he talks to a different front desk staff who says “oh it wasn’t in the computer”, that was entirely untrue. The last few hours of our stay were frustrating, stressful, and full of negative vibes (thought this was a chill beach hotel?). Safe to say I am never returning, and would not recommend the place to anyone until they undergo major renovations and complete multiple health and safety checks. 400 dollars could’ve been spent much better elsewhere :(
Sincerely, Walking Blob of Mildew Because...
