Disappointing Date Night Experience

Hawkers has always been one of my favorite restaurants for fresh and spectacular Asian food. For date night, my husband and I decided to switch things up and visit the Atlantic Beach location instead of our usual spot at 5 Points. Unfortunately, our experience nearly ruined our evening, but we made the best of it.

Upon arrival, the host and a server were engaged in a conversation and didn’t acknowledge us right away—even as we stood directly in front of them. When we were finally greeted, it was awkward, and we were told there was a 45-minute wait unless we opted for a high-top table. The host did swap out the stools for high-back chairs, but my husband had to grab his own.

Our server, Connor, was noticeably busy, which delayed his visit to our table. He took our full order, including appetizers and entrées, but things quickly went downhill. The entrées arrived before the appetizers, which I understand may not have been Connor’s fault. However, it was his responsibility to ensure we had basic dining essentials—like lemons for our water and serving plates—which he completely overlooked. On top of that, my entrée order was incorrect.

When I sent the dish back, the manager came over to ask if I wanted it remade or something else. After I declined, he simply walked away as if his job was done—no apology, no attempt to make things right. Then, Connor presented us with the wrong check, and when we pointed it out, his reaction was a casual “Oh, okay…”—zero concern for the mistake.

The entire experience was lackluster and filled with poor service at every turn. Even my husband, who is usually easygoing and rarely complains, insisted I write this review. Hawkers Atlantic Beach truly failed to deliver the great dining experience we expected for our date night....
