I chose to dine here because I had eaten the delicious leftovers of a family member in December. At that time the fish was flavorful (well seasoned) and fresh. I expected a repeat experience during my visit to the North Camp venue.
The servers were kind and attentive, and they seemed to work well as a team. This is why I have given three stars for service. I ordered calamari to start, the red snapper, and another fish dish. The calamari was fresh and bland and so was the red snapper. The baked fish dish had an inkling of flavor. The serving of vegetables was minimal and they lacked seasoning as well. This is why I removed two stars for service and three stars for food.
There is only paid parking in the vicinity. Beware not to back into a street parking spot otherwise you will be ticketed! Although there is plenty of parking, it is not always easy to find a parking spot because parking is shared with other businesses and those who patron the beach. These inconveniences motivated me to remove one star for atmosphere. Who wants to start off their dining experience stressed out about parking?! The entrance to the restaurant appeared to be accessible to those with different body types and ambulatory capacities. The ambiance can get loud and the venue is not brightly illuminated at night. Still, this appears to be a family friendly venue. This business accepts cash and cards.
Overall, I didn’t enjoy my meal. I wasted 100 dollars on bland fish, seafood, and vegetables. The fish should have been seasoned with salt and pepper at bare minimum. I could have had the same quality of food at a fish and chip shack and for less money. To add insult to injury, as I exited the restaurant I noticed the fish on display had red eyes, which was a sign that it was not fresh. This is why I removed another star for atmosphere. I pray the fish was simply used for display and not to serve customers. Either way this visit was enough for me. I will not return and I will not recommend it to others. In conclusion, this experience was worthy...
Read moreHad lunch with the hubby. Happy they had outdoor seating wrapping the circumference of the actual restaurant. We dined outdoors. Had a dozen oysters for an appetizer. They were delish! Price says MP. We paid $20.00 per dozen.
I ordered a Lemon Drop Martini from the bar. It was perfect! Cost was steep, $20.00 each! Even at my 5 star hotels, it's a little less.
We ordered the fried seafood. You can select three. I had fish, shrimp, and scallops. Fish was cut into bite sized pieces. Meal came with fries, hush puppies, and Cole slaw, but I ordered the collards instead. They were fresh and tasty.
Food was fried to a golden brown and everything was fresh, lightly seasoned, and lightly battered. Portion wasn't huge, but totally filling! Cost was $22.00.
Overall, we had a pleasant visit. Even on a colder day with the breeze from the nearby ocean, the heaters above provided warmth.
Worth it!
Okay. I returned and tried it again. It was approximately 230pm. We had a nonchalant waitress who came after we told them we hadn't been seen.
We ordered fried green tomatoes which were really good. The veggies were also delish. I ordered a low country boil for one and it was awful!
The sausage was rubbery and the seafood was overcooked. I managed to eat the 5 shrimp and two clams, but the crab cluster was split and they only gave me two legs from the cluster. I told the manager it was a poorly prepared crab leg and he provided another. I was again disappointed.
He then came out and found out about my allergies and told me about gluten free options. He actually went back and prepared a sample for me to try. That meant a lot!!!
Otherwise the place is still worth visiting. Great area, good drinks and a...
Read moreI normally never leave reviews, but after the experience we had at North Beach Fish Camp, I feel compelled to say something—especially after bringing close family members from out of state. This was meant to be a special evening, and instead, it turned out to be flat-out embarrassing.
From the moment we were seated, the service was off. Our server, Meochirre, screamed the specials at us when we politely asked about them—completely unnecessary and jarring. That was just the beginning. It took multiple attempts just to get his attention for drinks, refills, and even basic needs like silverware. And to be clear, the restaurant was not even that busy. There was no excuse for that level of inattentiveness or lack of professionalism.
To make matters worse, at the end of my meal, I noticed my mahi looked a bit odd—the breading just didn’t seem right. When I took a bite, I realized I wasn’t imagining things. Somehow, a plastic wrapper had been deep-fried with the fish batter. Yes, you read that right: I bit into a fried plastic wrapper. It’s honestly unbelievable that something like that could make it to a customer’s plate.
It’s incredibly disappointing when a place with great food is completely overshadowed by careless service and kitchen mistakes. The food could have been amazing, but we couldn’t even enjoy it thanks to the service, and then to top it off with a literal plastic-wrapped piece of fish? That’s not just disappointing—that’s dangerous.
I would not recommend this restaurant, and I certainly won’t be returning. Jacksonville has too many good spots to waste a night feeling ignored, disrespected,...
