First off, this hotel is close to the beach if that is your jam. It is an older house made into a hotel. IF you have any type of physical disability, this is not the place for you AT ALL. I had recently had both hips resurfaced and am getting ready for knee replacement. Upon our arrival we were notified that our room was on the 4th floor. I should have at that moment asked for a room on a lower floor - but I just didn't think. The stairs, besides not being to code in any way shape or form, are very skinny, lack sufficient railings and take a lot of effort to traverse. One step would be regular height, the next 2 inches shorter, the next 4 inches higher and then a 3" step. SOOO dangerous. |Our room, on the 4th floor, consisted of one bed, a window unit, a tiny fridge, somewhere to hang our clothes, and a bathroom with a shower. Our room shared one wall with the next room, but it butted up to the bathroom and we could hear everything through that wall. Little to no insulation.|On our next to last night, we returned at 8 pm to no air conditioning and no power in our bathroom at all. Some of our outlets worked and the fridge worked. The temperature that day had been in the 80s and the room was HOT. We are from South Carolina and are used to hot weather, but not in a fourth floor room with only one window that opened about 5". After texting our host, we were answered with a curt "I'm working on it". We were notified an hour later that there was a power outage in the town of Ocean Grove. After googling that, it said that ONE house out of 13,000+ was without power. I have never been in a power outage where only half of a room didn't have power. It was strange to say the least. We decided that night would be our last, and left the next day. The hotel was not full and I felt like they should have offered us a room where the air conditioning was working. We could hear the units working on the floor below us and the hall across from us - so some people had power.|Overall it was a very disappointing stay. There are many other 'bed and breakfast' type homes and VRBO homes for rent in this area, so you really need to do your research. Also if you have ANY type of physical limitations, you should ask before you book or think twice...

I booked a one night stay at this inn on a Saturday in May as a solo female traveler. I was at an event when I received a text from the innkeeper around 8:30 pm that the hotel and a portion of Ocean Grove was without power. I asked if more updates or information would be shared, and she replied "you'll see it. lol." I let her know I was off site which was why I inquired, and she replied "oh ok." This, apparently, is active communication meant to ensure my safety and comfort.
I returned around 12:15 am. There were lights on in the lobby and hallway, but my room was completely dark. I tried every light and outlet, and none worked. I gathered my things and returned to the empty lobby, where I charged my phone for a few minutes while I made plans for other accommodations. I notified the innkeeper around 12:30 am that my room had no power and I would not be staying, and she said the owners would reach out to me the next day.
The following Monday I sent an email detailing what happened. The innkeeper's reply was appalling. She claimed that since the hallways had power and most rooms had partial power, they were not at fault and would not be accepting any responsibility. The innkeeper keeps reiterating this, so I guess the expectation was that I charge my devices, bathe, and sleep in the hallway. She also mentioned Ocean Grove being safe, which I found to be absolutely insulting. Should I have charged my phone and slept in the hallway, because the community is safe??
I have never felt so unsafe in a travel situation, and never so taken aback by a response from a business. Of course it is not the business' fault that the power was out- but to do nothing to accommodate guests and take no responsibility is unacceptable.
TLDR: Especially as a solo or female traveler, do not stay here if safety, communication, or accountability is...
