I usually hate giving poor reviews but I felt that it was needed. Let’s start with the seating. We decided to go with the outdoor seating. It was very nice out and the atmosphere looked quite nice at first. About two minutes after being seated though, we noticed there were lots of ants going on the tables. They were even starting to climb the forks and napkins so we asked to be seated inside instead. The waiter was able to accommodate which I was very grateful for at first but as we were waiting for the food, we noticed there were ants walking around on the tables inside too. We were so hungry that we tried to overlook it and give hem the benefit of the doubt. Moving on to the staff. The man who seated us the first time specifically was rude. It kind of seemed like he didn’t want to do his job. Aside from that, the staff basically ignored us whenever we tried to signal for assistance and they would go to other customers instead. I had to get up and go to the server area to make requests because none of the waiters came to check in or offer assistance. The staff also seemed incredibly lost. They kept bringing the wrong food and drinks. There was a great lack of organization in this breakfast spot. It was especially baffling when the food was so ordinary after all the struggles we went through there. Would have had a much better time literally anywhere else. If you’re Hispanic, I would especially avoid coming to this spot considering my mom and I felt as though we were being treated that way because of that. They treated all the American customers way kinder than they did us. Regarding the ants as well, I got bitten twice so watch...
Read moreMust say my first visit I was very impressed by the quality of the food. I was in Ocean Grove on 7/26 for a day at the beach. The server we had was pretty good. The one major issue I have was how the manager of the place treated a customer who had a legitimate issue. Her table waited over 35 minutes for their food. In fact my wife and I came in after her group and we were served before them. She compained to the manager about the dealy and shortly thereafter the food came out. But the issue was not that she complained but what the manager said after this woman and her group left.
In front of all the other patrons he started to mock this person and make fun of them. Even called out to the waitress who served this table and say that he was going to "subsidize her tip."
I have worked in food service before and sometimes a customer will rub you the wrong way, you deal with it individually. But you never broadcast to other patrons you disgust.
It's a shame that such good food is surrounded by a manager who could care less about a customer. Even in the face of poor service or a mistake from his staff. He could have taken a bad situation and made something good out of it. Instead he made it worse. ...
Read moreNothing makes a Sunday better than a drive "down the shore" and brunch by the beach. Hopped in the car and about 20 minutes in to the 40 minute drive the rumbling started in the stomach signaling the need for food.
We decided on The Starving Artist at Days in bucolic Ocean Grove so we could walk and wander afterwards and enjoy the houses and the clean ocean air.
The location is simple and on Summer days the ice cream shoppe is so busy that you'd often forget there's an eatery in the back. Not the case on a cool Autumn morning. We strolled in past Day's and were seated quickly. The menu was simple and we opted for a special and a standard.
Egg white omelette with cheddar and broccoli with home fries and french toast stuffed with cream cheese and pumpkin.
The omelette was one of the fluffiest and tastiest I've had, and Jeanine agreed, and also felt the potatoes were perfectly prepared. The french toast was perfect in that it wasn't too sweet and remained light throughout. Four pieces of french toast meant eight slices of bread, and while filling, it did not feel heavy.
The service was prompt, and super pleasant and the vibe was classic diner, but quaint...
