I’ve stayed at the LaGuardia Plaza Hotel once before and it was ok. However, this stay was by far different and unfortunately a big disappointment. The issue began with us checking into our room around 3:30. Upon checking in I unpacked my stuff to take a shower my bf had to step out for a bit to run errands so I was by myself getting ready. I was excited because I was going to be attending a Broadway show that evening so I needed to get ready. Upon entry into the shower I was met with several knats flying and crawling all on the ceiling and shower wall. I went back and forth in my head about complaining but I felt it was quite gross and didn’t want to shower with the bugs so I called down to the front desk to report it. They apologized and asked i return so they can issue me a new room. I figure, things happen so not a big deal. So I packed up my stuff and returned downstairs for them to issue me a brand new room. So second go around, upon entry into the new room I was immediately met with a weird smell almost like a weed smell which i thought was strange as it’s a non smoking room. I was surprised but wasn’t going to complain because I really did not want to have to change rooms again. I told myself I’m going to deal with it and that was that. Also I was in a rush to get to the show. So again I unpacked my stuff and attempted to take a shower. Before entry into the bathroom I noticed the carpet was a little wet near the tv but didn’t immediately think anything of it. I figured maybe since they just gave me a new room perhaps it was just steamed cleaned or something. However, upon exiting the shower I returned to the room and could hear what sounded like water dripping near the a/c unit. Upon further examination and walking closer to the unit I was met with a big puddle of water all around the A/c unit. It was dripping water and the carpet was entirely soaked surrounding the right side of the bed and around the a/c unit. I was so disgusted that I walked on this nasty carpet that i immediately jumped back in the shower to wash my feet and put on shoes. I attempted to call the front desk several times from the room but no one answered. This time I was frustrated because I was in a rush and now I had to once again go downstairs to change rooms because who wants to have puddles of water in their hotel room? Not me! So again I packed up all my stuff and headed to the front desk. I voiced my concerns and frustration to them and they apologized. I asked them to please thoroughly check the next room so i wouldn’t have to go through this again. They assigned an engineer to the new room and he thoroughly checked it before my entry. The engineer was very nice so I have nothing negative to say about him. So once again I packed my stuff up and this time the engineer helped me to move to my 3rd and final room. I was so busy packing and unpacking between rooms that I ended up being late to the broadway show which is so disappointing. :( The final room had no major issues except the following day I go to use the ironing board and the board immediately collapses as I take it out the closet. A screw popped out and upon further evaluation I noticed the legs were all bent up and this board was not usable at all. Not sure why they still have it in the room. At this point I was really over my stay. We paid $640 for 2 nights and this was by far a horrible experience. This hotel needs to more thoroughly check rooms before guest enter. To pay this money for a horrible experience there should be a discount. This experience is not what we paid for. I noticed this place is huge but they are not properly staffed for such a big space. After this not sure if I will ever return which is very unfortunate since it’s in a...
Read moreWe knew based on reading the reviews that there were rooms that we remodeled and some weren’t. Totally understandable since unless they fully close, it makes sense that all the rooms can’t get remodeled at the same time.
When we checked in my partner asked the concierge if the room we were getting was one of the newly remodeled rooms. Her response was, “I don’t know”. Regardless of the industry anyone works in, that’s never a good response. She works at the hotel yet she didn’t know which rooms were newly remodeled? That’s either her being lazy or a reflection on management not communicating.
We entered our room and it was clearly one that wasn’t remodeled since it smelled like mold and cigarettes. The walls were very thin because our first night every move we made even just getting on the bed the backboard hit the wall and starting at 10pm the room next to us continued to bang on the wall trying to shut us up. It was like as if we lived in an apt with angry neighbors. But yet we still didn’t complain.
The next morning we woke up at 6am and our whole room smelled like cigarettes. We were on the 5th floor so unless the construction worker was smoking in front of our window, it’s safe to assume it was our angry neighbors. The smell literally seeped in our whole room and bathroom. We don’t smoke and if certain floors were smoking floors, the concierge should ask if that’s ok or notify their guests about it especially since I have ASTHMA! We left early for a conference and didn’t plan on being there until later in the evening so we honestly forgot to complain; however, let’s be honest, complaining sucks and moving rooms sucks especially when you’re in town for work and is barely there so most of the time people accept their situations which is what we did.
Our last night was decent since it seemed as if they were in a good mood and didn’t bang on the wall while we were talking and laughing but it still smelled like cigarettes; however, the worst part about this stay was the CONSTRUCTION that woke me up around 7:30 and went on until we left. I wanted to leave immediately since I couldn’t take my meetings in my room because my colleagues could all hear it. I’ve attached my recording of the sound below.
I’ve worked in hospitality and I only like to leave reviews on the positive experiences I experience to help praise the business and their employees on their great work. Even after the unpleasant experiences that started when we got there we still didn’t feel the need to write a review; however, after the morning of their construction waking me up, I had to leave a review because it set the tone of my day to be irritable and disappointed on our overall experience, not to mention that their rooms were going for $350-$400/night during the week.
We are diamond members of Hilton and only stay at Hilton properties but will never stay there again. If you plan on doing anything past 11pm, have kids, have asthma and not an early bird don’t stay there or you’ll be bothered for laughing late at night in your own room and will be woken up early by annoying construction for $400/night on a Wednesday with an asthma attack.
The only good thing about this place was its location but that’s a result from proper planning on our...

Almost like they hide it to push you to pay the $8 for water. ||-The beds are “superfirm”/ rock hard - which has resulted in backache and shoulder pain; the pillows are like rocks as well and are likely to cause neckache due to angle you end up sleeping at- so I opted for no pillow. |-I genuinely have been more comfortable camping on a mountain in Ecuador. ||-You expect to hear plane noise but not the water pipes from the next door rooms at such a level that it startles you from the doze you are in because you never quite fall into a deep proper sleep because of the mentioned bed and pillow issues. ||-Check in was not as smooth as it ought to have been bearing in mind check in was at 3pm and i was there at at least 3:30pm, the room was not ready or been inspected. |-Then the housekeeping team were not clearly responding to reception’s request to complete the room check. ||-Consequently my room was then totally switched, and as reception were clarifying again with housekeeping it was actually ready - a manager came out and started discussing something totally different to do with delta air crew rooms with the reception lady attempting to check me in then proceeded to berate a chap who was a colleague in front of me. Incredibly awkward and unprofessional even if she did apologise. ||-Just don’t do it! ||-The most ridiculous waste of money. I may have well just stayed in New York proper and paid for a taxi to the airport. |-Or just organised the car service in straight from Connecticut at 3am. ||Rooms are dated, carpet is dated, AC is dated. It’s literally daylight robbery the prices charged. |Rooms are dated, carpet is dated,...
