Poor hotel and staff. Charged us for a executive room when we were downgraded. Would not stay there again.
We booked 2 rooms at this hotel in February in the Executive floor. The rooms were nice and looked clean. The bathroom on the other hand was a little bit dirty. There were stains and red colours around the door, the shower had a scent of mould and there were small tiny flies flying around in the shower. I guess they came out of the drain, because we were living in the 18th floor and the window was far away. The view from our room was good (Room 1835).
The breakfast is not a regular breakfast. Im not sure how it is in the US. But here in Europe a hotel breakfast is a buffet with a lot of different stuff to eat. The breakfast in the Executive Class was basically a voucher for a simple pastry (or cereal), a juice and a fruit. We booked a hotel with breakfast included so we could save some money by not having to eat breakfast outside every day. Because Manhatten is quite expensive. Instead we ended up with eating this simple breakfast at the hotel and then go out and eat breakfast again after 1-2 hours because of hunger.
The hotel is also crowded with kids (probebly high school students) every day. We stayed there for 6 days and the lobby was crowded almost 24/7.
Now over to the worst part of our stay. The last day we were downgraded to a simpler/regular room, because of some electrical problem with the room we were staying in. This should have gotten their highest priority to get it fixed asap. We had 2 rooms at this hotel and had been living there for 5 days/nights. We should have been prioritised and moved to another Executive Class room, but instead we were downgraded to a regular room. This regular room was bad. Really bad. Bathroom looked like it was made back in 1960. It had a strange smell and didnt look any clean at all. The shower was also strang. The floor in the tub was soft and we didnt like it. But the staff told us that the hotel was fully booked, so we had to accept it. I told the hotel manager (for this night) that we wanted a refund. Of course, we paid for a Executive Class room and did not want to pay premium for a simple 1960s room. He said ok, that he would give us 50 USD off. We wanted more because of all this trouble and inconveniences and he could understand that. So he promised us that he would look into it.
The following day when we were about to check out, the staff charged us the full price for both rooms. I started to argue with the staff and told to speak with the manager (different manager this time). She came out and started to explain that we had all ready gotten our refund by looking at the receipt. The strange thing now is that room number 1 (with discount) costed exactly the same as room number 2 (without any discount). By some tricks the hotel managed to trick their way out of this situation and would not give us anything els. We had to catch a plane so we could not stay there and argue more. This was really poor handling and a bad behaviour by the hotel. After spending 12 nights there in total they should have been more helpful.
I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are far better options in the same area. This was my worst hotel experience ever. And I have been travelig a lot and visited many many hotels. Executive Class Hotel has been my worst hotel...
Read moreDo NOT stay here. There are so many options in New York and this has to be the worst hotel, especially given how expensive it is.
We were concerned about cleanliness since many reviews have mentioned how dirty the rooms can be. That ended up being the least of our concerns. When we arrived our curtains were all the way up and could not be rolled down manually.
We immediately went down to the front desk to tell them and they had a technician come up to fix it. The technician came and said there should be a remote that is specialized and without it, the curtains won’t come down. That remote was not in the room. He said he would relay that to the front desk and they would contact us with a solution. THAT NEVER HAPPENED.
We went down to complain the next morning since we got zero sleep. I guess they forgot we’re in the middle of Manhattan and neon lights beam through the windows all night! We spoke to a different clerk who said they would have a technician come up and fix it. That’s when we knew this would never get resolved.
We then decided to talk a manager since we were going in circles. The manager, Gina (sp?), again said she would talk to a technician and look at our reservation (whatever that means). We were pretty upset by then and explained to her we couldn’t sleep with lights beaming in all night. She brushed us off with an eye roll and we never heard from her again.
We gave up at that point and stayed two more nights without sleep. The room was also extremely hot and the a/c didn’t work despite the listing saying we would have it. When we finally checked out we spoke to another manager (Sandra). She was slightly more concerned about our horrible stay and was gracious enough to waive the $40 maintenance fee (sarcasm). For paying close to $500/night you would think they would care about their guest service service. We spoke to at least five employees and they all passed the buck.
Alas they have no accountability because the location is unbeatable and the hotel Will survive on that alone. You would do better staying at a Holiday Inn. Avoid this place at all costs.
Here’s a picture of how our room looked at night. It doesn’t do justice to how...
Read moreThe front desk staff and management were not helpful after the hotel canceled my reservation. They claimed I canceled it on Expedia, but I showed them my booking and confirmation number. It included free parking and breakfast, but they said none of that was included. The manager Ariana asked for Expedia to call her directly because she claims to have looked up my booking on Expedia and couldn't find anything AFTER I showed her my confirmation information. Then when I had a rep from Expedia on the phone, she wouldn't come out of the back office to help me. The Expedia rep tried calling the number she gave me for the to call, but it kept going to voicemail.
Against my better judgement, we stayed and although the room was okay, it didn't have a mini fridge as the room description stated. We booked an Executive room on the 19th floor with included parking and morning pastry/fruit/coffee. The worker at the coffee shop insisted it was included, but when I went to the front desk to get a voucher, they said it wasn't.
In the middle of the night, expect to hear banging doors, loud screaming, and drunk people throughout the hallways no less than 5-10 times per night between midnight and 3am. Also plan on the housekeeping staff to try to enter your room 1-2 times in the afternoon AFTER it's been made up for no reason! We kept the double lock in place, and when we heard someone entering, it was housekeeping. When I asked if we could help her with something, she said, "Sorry! No, nothing! Do you need anything?" I've never had this happen at any hotel I've ever stayed at. This happened EVERY day!
To top it off, the Union workers were protesting every morning outside the hotel doors with inflatable rats and a fog horn starting at 6am. The convenient location is just...
