LOVE this hotel! Everything about it is top-notch, from the service, to the rooms, to the location. This was my second stay in this hotel, and I'm sure it won't be my last. Usually when my husband and I travel, I like to stay in different hotels, just to have different experiences, but this is such a great hotel, I'll likely choose it every time I'm in NYC. Its location on the SE corner of 51st and 7th is super convenient to just about anything you want to do in New York. A quick walk to Central Park, Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center, several museums, Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue shopping, the theater district/Times Square, Grand Central, Bryant Park, and the Empire State Building. A short walk to several subway stations will get you to lower Manhattan in a matter of minutes.
The staff at The Michelangelo is SO friendly and super accommodating. Bell and door staff are cheerful, helpful, and very knowledgeable of the city. They will arrange a taxi for you, or tell you which train to take to get to your destination, and always with a smile. When we arrived back at the hotel, we were always greeted with a smile and a "Welcome home" while opening the door for us. The servers in the bar area where breakfast and coffee is served were also very cheerful and welcoming every morning when I went downstairs to get my coffee. They even gave me a coffee on the house the first day because I had a black eye from a slip and fall the afternoon before my flight to NYC. :) We had arrived early in the day after a red-eye flight that none of us slept well on, and the front desk staff upgraded us (for a nominal fee) to a large room that was ready so we could all take a nap.
The hotel is beautiful and impeccably maintained. I love the scent that is pumped into the lobby. The rooms are quite large in comparison to other NYC hotel rooms, and the beds are very comfortable. I love the cozy robes and slippers that are provided as well.
If you're going to NYC STAY IN THIS HOTEL! You won't regret it.
It's now a couple of years later, and I originally wrote this review about a stay at this hotel in 2022. Now 2025, I have just returned home after my 5th stay at this hotel, and I wouldn't change anything about my review. The most important things to me in a hotel are cleanliness, comfort, and service, and this hotel exceeds all expectations. I will say that some of the decor/amenities are a bit dated and showing some wear, but the hotel is always clean, beautiful, smells wonderful, and the rooms are huge for NYC hotel rooms as I mentioned in my original review.
Then there are the people....Walter and Kenric at the front desk, Jimmy and Shawn in the bar/retaurant, Teodoro, Gene, Edwin, Cesar, and Nick the door/bellmen....they are all so welcoming, professional, and friendly. This is definitely my go-to hotel...
Read moreWe got an early last Monday and unlike the last review, Michele who was upgraded to a grand suite, we were greeted rudely by the tall white Concierge at 8:30 AM on October 6th 2025. We had emailed and said we would be on a redeye and kindly requested an early check-in. When we got to the front desk, a very rude and abrupt man just asked her last name, when said we had requested the early check-in which he just ignored and told us that they did not have any rooms available. We made the best of it, walked over to Central Park and waited for a room, which he said they would call us when it becomes available. We walked back a few hours later, exhausted, only to find out that there was a room available, he never called. The room (727) that he put us into was a dark, interior room with zero light, smelled like mildew and had stains all over the carpet. My husband walked back to the concierge and they moved us to one floor down same room, (627) same floor plan except this one had feces dripping off the toilet bowl and the bathroom floor was very sticky and disgusting. It was definitely not ready for a human being to reside in. My husband then went back and finally spoke to someone else. This manager was David. He seemed empathetic and told us to pack our stuff tomorrow just in case a room became available bc there was nothing he could do on Monday night. We had to stay the night in the poop filled room. The way that we were treated was just unforgivable. David did manage to move us to a better room later on Tuesday for which we were grateful. That should have been our initial impression of this hotel. When you look at the other reviews of people who are put in those dark interior rooms, they are not of white descent. The Concierge that we met up upon our arrival was a racist human being. The fact that he did that to us and was allowed to makes me sad for the rest of the good people who works at this hotel. That said the rooms are still older and tired, we could not see out of the windows because of the dirt and grime, the fan in the bathroom did not work. They need to upgrade. Though I’m sure there are nicer rooms that have been upgraded to give to people like Michele when they check in early. David V and June made the rest stay enjoyable. So did Theodore at the front. He was always smiling and willing to help us with anything. David, I hope you get the recognition you deserve for turning the...
Read moreHubby and I were looking for a hotel that was in close proximity to the Broadway Theatre’s, so when we found this hotel, we were extremely impressed with the sizes of the rooms & pricing (in comparison to other places in close proximity). We only stayed for 1 night, so this is how my experience went:
The LOCATION of this hotel is EXCEPTIONAL💎. Times Square is literally right outside your door. There are so many food & grocery store options in the area that are open late, so you won’t have an issue getting anything you need for your stay. Big shout out to Brian, who was extremely helpful in giving us information on things to do in the area and places to see in the area. His service was exceptional.
Here are a few things you should know that I was unaware of. I made a detailed YouTube video that shows our day at the Michelangelo in great detail if you copy paste the following paragraph on YouTube, you will find it 🔎 “📍New York City Hotel Review: The Michelangelo Hotel in Manhattan🗽 Here’s What You Need To Know 📝 “
the third party website I booked this hotel on stated that there was a: gym & indoor pool on site, but when we got there and asked about these amenities the lady at the lobby stated this was not correct. However, she did mention you can get a $5.00 discount off a gym (which has a pool) that has a pool across the street, so keep this in mind if you do come here. After checkout, we were charged an EXTRA $50 USD on my credit card (which we were later told was an additional resort fee, even thought we paid another $43 resort fee through the third party site we booked through). Our initial cost of the deluxe king room was $299 , but after taxes, parking [we did receive a huge discount at a parking garage for all day parking = $45 / night, when regular parking for the same car would be $80 / night] and “resort fees” we spend almost $465 USD for one night at the hotel, so keep this in mind when you are booking through a third party app. It may be best to book directly through the Michelangelo so you are clear on all the additional fees you will be paying. Our shower had amazing water pressure, but we quickly noticed the shower drain was clogged. We only stayed for 1 night so we didn’t think it was necessary to complain about but hopefully others won’t have this issue.
All in all we had a great time and even with these issues I would still come back and give this place...
