As dramatic as it may seem I could not wait to get home to write this review. My company is always looking for new places to eat at with clients when we get to different states and this is the first one that I promise I will make everyone avoid.
I HATE wasting my time and money at places like these. This is supposed to be a fine dining establishment and I spent the entire time annoyed.
The tables are very close together and for some reason the couple next to us could not stop looking at me and my boyfriend. We found them staring at us (you can feel their eyes) at least 20 times, to the point where we started to laugh because it was unreal. Really weird, but what can you really say when their table is three inches from ours.
The thing that made me the most upset was the fact that I wanted to order the tomahawk for two, and then a rib steak. I saw the pictures of the tomahawk for two and my boyfriend and I agreed he could probably finish it on his own, and if not, we take it home. So, I decided I’ll get my own steak.
We ordered and the waiter told us the tomahawk for two was for two (obviously -_-) and I told him yeah, that’ll be for him, and I’ll get my own ribeye. He repeated that it was for two and that it’s the same steak bla bla and I was like i know, that’s okay. He’ll do the tomahawk for two and I’ll get my own separate ribeye. Pretty simple, clear, concise.
Then, another man comes and tells us he’ll be our server from here on out and he was very pleasant. I think his name was Marcos. A hispanic guy. Perfectly fine.
A third person comes and brings us the tomahawk for two and starts to put a piece on my boyfriends plate and before he puts it on mine my he let him know that the tomahawk is for him, I ordered something else. The guy read the ticket and told us that they only sent in the tomahawk for two and not the other steak. We said it was fine and we’ll just share. He tried to “console” us by saying it’s the best steak in the house and it’s a lot of food etc., which is not the point, but it’s not his fault.
I imagined the original waiter decided he knew best and ignored what I ordered and did what he wanted anyway. He comes back to ask if everything is fine and I asked him if what I ordered was taken off the ticket and he said that it was only the tomahawk for two and i told him we ordered a separate rib steak and i kid you not!!!! he says “yes, but it’s too much food” and i was LIVID. so immediately i asked him to who? who decides that? and we wanted to have some to take home and now we can’t. and he continues to try and say that it’s the same steak bla bla WHICH WE KNOW and then says “you said it was fine since it’s the same thing”, trying to shift the blame on me. I never said that, and I never had any confusion on whether it was the same steak or not. I know what I ordered because I am a grown woman who can read and speak properly. This man just decided to do whatever he wanted just because.
After reading other negative reviews, it’s clear that it’s either the same waiter who doesn’t care about the customer and does whatever he wants, or this restaurant has a history of employing people like him.
On top of that, the steak was terrible and flavorless??? We had to try and put some salt or sauce something cuz it was the worst. I would’ve much rather bought my own steak and cooked it at home. We took everything home and we’re going to cook it tomorrow to see if we can at least get one decent meal out the $160 we spent.
TERRIBLE! DO NOT RECOMMEND! If the food was at least DECENT, i wouldn’t...
Read moreOriginally wanted to go to Keens due to less commute from a meeting but they were booked for the night even if we were willing to wait. Gallaghers had similar high ratings and prestige so we went here with very high hopes. Very happy that we were able to get a spot despite not having reservations although we had to sit and wait for about 20-25 minutes. The atmosphere is very bustling and amazing with a nice ambience. Really liked that.
Once seated service was actually quite good and the server(a) was very patient with explaining the menu and items, bringing water on time, bringing multiple alternative sauces since I didn’t like some initial ones. Just attentive and good + their Dijon sauce with calamari is amazing. He also did a fantastic job with taking stuff out in boxes as we couldn’t finish. Oh and complimentary starting bread was decent nothing special.
The other lady on the other hand was very odd. She started speaking in Chinese or Japanese I don’t even know what because mine isn’t that great I speak almost only primarily English at a comfortable level. I guess she wanted to make us feel comfortable since we were of Asian descent? It was awkward and even other people nearby felt uncomfortable and second hand cringe. I honestly didn’t care as I see the intention was not Ill will but she might not be so lucky with another group of Asian people
Tomahawk steak was pretty disappointing. I’m not an expert on steak let alone dry aged steak but all I can say is that it was very chewy/tough and I just didn’t feel like it was very premium-like especially at its massive price point. Tiny parts were a little charred but that wasn’t a big issue at all. All I could think was that my dad at home could cook a tastier steak unironically. The steak sauce kinda saved it but yeah maybe I’m just not a steak person. Fries were fine but that’s not really anything crazy as you can’t really mess that up. Crème brûlée was just ok. It lacked strong flavors just tasted like an average custard. Too mellow and weak and I’m not even a sweets person.
The only time I’d be coming back is with my brother to verify if that’s just how expensive and overrated steak is supposed to taste like or if they messed it up for me this time and it’s actually amazing second time around. Feel free to respond if you’re a steak expert based on these pictures if they even cooked it right at a desired medium rare. Overall seriously disappointed as this was my girlfriends first steakhouse and she most likely will be staying away from red...
Read moreIf you're looking for an old-school New York steakhouse experience with top-notch service and perfectly cooked meats, Gallagher's Steakhouse delivers in spades. From the moment we stepped in, the dim, classy ambiance set the mood-wooden furniture, red leather booths, and just the right level of jazzy background music made for a refined yet inviting atmosphere. Service: Service was exceptional, with a three-person team (shoutout to Carmine, Tim & Victor) ensuring we were never left waiting, despite a packed lunch crowd.
Food Highlights: Starters: • Beef & Barley Soup - A hearty, meaty bouillon with a black pepper kick. Deeply satisfying. • Clam Chowder - Unlike the creamy New England version, this was tomato-based with celery, carrots, and onions, giving it a minestrone-like heartiness with a seafood twist.
Crab Cake - Packed with real crab meat in large flakes. Creamy, rich, and beautifully balanced with the tangy tartar sauce and pickled veggies. Mains: • 10oz Filet Mignon - Perfectly executed medium rare. A crispy, smoky crust gave way to a melt-in-your-mouth tender interior. The natural beefy flavor was so good, I didn't even need the house-made steak sauce. • Lamb Chops - One of the best lamb dishes I've had. A slight gamy note (in a good way), with the same crispy, smoky exterior as the filet. Pro tip: Eat it fast-the texture got a bit tough after 15 minutes. Sides: • Mashed Potatoes - Rustic and homemade, with small potato chunks for texture. Not overly creamy, just comforting. • Creamed Spinach - A little salty on its own but paired beautifully with the mashed potatoes.
Desserts: • New York Cheesecake - Soft, creamy, and just rich enough without being too heavy. The strawberry sauce and fresh whipped cream tied it all together perfectly. • Key Lime Pie - A spot-on balance of tart and sweet, with a crumbly biscuit base adding an extra layer of texture. Room for Improvement? The bread was dry-fine for an average restaurant but a miss for a steakhouse of this caliber. A warm, fresh-baked option (like their date & nut bread) would have been a game-changer. At $34 for the lunch special, Gallagher's is a steal considering the quality. Whether you're here for a power lunch or a classic NYC steakhouse experience, it's a must-visit for...
