Upon arrival to the Fairfield Inn and Suites Manhattan I was surprised to see that your hotel trash was piled up in the front of the hotel, where your guests are entering for the first time. And the smell from the trash was awful. I suggest that your hotel trash be thrown in a trash dumpster in the back alley of the hotel, where it is not seen or smelled. After check in, we were given a room on the fourth floor, with no view except of a brick wall on a parking garage. Plus the 4th floor was so close to the street that we could hear every car honking in the wee hours of the morning. Also the room was very small; my boyfriend and I were literally stepping on each others toes. I had asked the guest service man who checked us in to put us on a high floor far away from the street and he thought the 4th floor would be high enough, it wasn't. This was our first trip to New York and I expected a view of the skyline if not Times Square, instead our first view was that of a garage. The next morning at breakfast your waitress that is Asian and walking around with earbuds in her ear was very rude. She was telling people where to sit and demanded that they sit in certain areas instead of where they wanted. My boyfriend and I were the first to breakfast and she literally told us to go back to our rooms, that breakfast wouldn't be served for another 15 minutes. In parts of Asia a waitress giving orders to patrons may be accustomed, but in the United States that is considered to be bad service and rude. As far as breakfast was concerned, it was good, but there is room for improvement. Your scrambled eggs tasted like powdered eggs and they were runny, not cooked all the way. The bacon was ok, but the sausage patties were frozen and processed, like from McDonalds; they were not good. The only thing that was good from the breakfast, were the blueberry muffins, granola cereal, and the Starbucks Coffee. For the most part the hotel stay was mediocre. I hope to receive some kind of compensation for a mediocre stay. I suggest you discharge the Asian waitress with the headphones in her ear, upgrade the eggs from powdered to real eggs, change the sausage, put noise reduction devices on the low floor rooms, and when guests ask for a high floor room, accommodate them. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments, I wish I had something nice to say. I hope to receive compensation for a...
Read moreLong review, but other people (on TripAdvisor) got me nervous for no reason, and I hope this helps to alleviate some concerned travelers staying here in the future. The price is really great for the area and it was an overall great stay! Many thanks to Kim, she really knows how to deliver customer service!
Kim checked us in and cheerfully accommodated us with the requested early check-in and high floor room. This was especially important to my fiancé and myself, because we were in town for a wedding, but she is in full study mode for an upcoming licensure exam and needed the extra few hours to study. I understand that these requests can't always be accommodated, but thankfully it was able to happen for us and the courtesy and kindness with which Kim did it made our day and really put this hotel at the top for us.
1.) ELEVATORS: Yes, there's only 3 elevators and yes it may take a while (2-5 min) to get up to a high floor room, but this is ONLY during peak hours and remember you're staying in a fairly tall building with a lot of people, it's to be expected. 2.) ROOM SIZE: Yes, the hotel rooms are smaller than what most of us are used too, but again, you're staying in NYC, so unless you're paying a premium at a Ritz for a suite, I think we can all agree that a nice bed, desk, armoire (for a closet), sink, and walk-in shower are more than enough. 3.) BREAKFAST LINES: Yes, the breakfast area gets really busy around 7:15-7:30a, but the potential business of the breakfast area was CLEARLY advertised in the elevator. So, we got up at 6:45a and beat the rush. Problem solved. 4.) NOISE: There's potential for noise from the street and from the SkyDeck bar, in our case more likely from the bar, and Kim warned us and let us know to call down if it became a problem, but we were fine through the night. Only noise was from some neighbors with small children, but it was no problem at all. 5.) CITY VIEW: We paid a little extra for a "city view" room and did indeed have a room facing away from the Port Authority terminal and 6.) CONCERNS BEING CLOSE TO PORT AUTHORITY: Yes, the area is right next to the Port Authority terminal and there's potential for "unsavory characters", of which there were some, but again, you're staying in NYC, there's interesting people everywhere, get over it, look after your stuff, don't get in trouble, and just...
Read moreThis hotel is now our favorite place to stay in NYC. The location is excellent for Broadway shows, and quick bites to eat. The breakfast staff (Diomarys Correa) was wonderful to cheer us up and on in the morning. The room was not too small, and big enough to not feel cramped.
Th best part of the morning breakfast was Diomarys Correa, an energetic, friendly hostess who sat us at a table for two by the hot stuff one morning and by the cold stuff the other mornings. The food was secondary. Husband said the scrambled eggs were over cooked, the veggie sausage was not as good as pork sausage and fried potatoes were just okay. He preferred an English muffin with jelly, or cereal. I liked my English muffin with blueberry compote and enjoyed a banana when available. They did have orange juice & apple juice each morning, but no cranberry juice. We like juice, not coffee. Before we left each morning, Diomarys filled our water bottles with water for our busy days ahead.
The elevators were fast, and the far right one was a little quirky. It took a bit of time before it went up to floor 19 for our room, even though we used our key (twice) to go. The room’s AC unit didn’t turn off. We put a chair in front of it during the night to direct the air off of us - no vents to direct. We each had a side table - drawers on one side & the other side was a cooler for drinks or food. Under the flat screen Samsung was a power unit - 4 plug ins and 2 USB ports. Plug ins and USB ports were over both side tables. The bathroom had a large shower with on the wall conditioner, shampoo, liquid soap.
The next time we visit we need to check our dates with NYC happenings & inquire about events at the hotel. In the hotel, and even at some venues, we noticed large groups of high school students. Not sure what was going on during the second weekend in NYC, but this was the first time we encountered so many young people. They were not obnoxious, or rude. Just loud, and pervasive.
When we return, we hope the rates are not too high. They were the best around the area this time (May 10-14, 2023). We hope someone learns to undercook the scrambled eggs a bit so that they are more tasty. They do cook a little bit more in that hot pan. And we REALLY hope that Diomarys Correa will be there with her bright smile and delightful ways...
