Fantastic Stay at Holiday Inn Express Jamaica - JFK Airtrain - NYC!
I can’t rave enough about my stay at the Holiday Inn Express - JFK Airtrain! As someone who values convenience, this hotel exceeded all my expectations. I had just landed at JFK and the transfer to the hotel couldn’t have been easier. The Airtrain to the subway station was quick, and within minutes, I was just two short blocks away from the hotel—talk about a stress-free arrival!
I stayed here because of the great reviews I read online. I was a little unsure about the area due to the reviews I read. I agree that at night, it was a little dark and sketch. But as long as you keep your eyes open and keep on your track, it was fine. Yes, it's NYC, the streets and are is dirty and smelly - not to mention, it's in the outskirts. Don't expect immaculate. I stayed here for LOCATION and in my BUDGET.
When I arrived, the name that EVERYONE raves about, GARY, was working. Their words and my opinion of him are unchanged! He was wonderful. He was so friendly. He allowed us to check in just a couple of hours early and when we checked out, he was very kind to allow us to store our bags.
The room itself was nicer than I expected: clean, modern, and super comfortable. I especially appreciated the quiet atmosphere, which helped me recharge every evening. The bed was firm yet soft at the same time. And let’s talk about the breakfast—what a treat! It was the perfect way to start the day. The spread was fresh, delicious, and included everything I needed to fuel up for a day of sightseeing. The best part? FREE. And.... it was good, warm, and replinished frequently. I was able to get in and out without any hassle.
The location couldn’t be more perfect for a quick getaway. The subway, being so close, made getting into Manhattan a breeze! I could hop on and be exploring the city in no time.
A couple of negatives but none that would keep me from staying here again: 1. There was damage to the floor which sunk in when you walked over it, but as long as I didn't fall in, I was fine! Which I didn't by-the-way. 2. The comforter had a few shreds in it. I didn't even notice until the last day there when I was stripping the bed while making sure I didn't leave anything behind while packing.
Whether you're flying into JFK or visiting NYC for the first time, this hotel offers unbeatable convenience, comfort, and a fantastic breakfast to boot. I’ll definitely be...

Read moreHow in the world is this an IHG property??!! While I will give them credit for the comfy bed and (clean enough) bathroom, the room was otherwise pretty dirty and the floors were nothing short of disgusting. Decor was basic and it looked like the room had seen better days long ago. Shower handle in my bathroom broke twice and one time I had to get the receptionist to fix it.
However the main issue I had here is the laughably poor service. The receptionists (who are all of an Indian background and spoke limited English) were unfriendly, never acknowledged my IHG platinum status, and more than half the time I called the front desk were not there. In fact, because of this I had to physically go downstairs to tell them my shower was broken. When I asked if late checkout was a possibility (which I should get if available thanks to my IHG platinum status), Gary the receptionist only gave me 1 additional hour, which I appreciated but most hotels even without status will give you an additional 1 hour grace period if you ask. I asked if I could have an additional hour on top of that, and Gary’s excuse was that I couldn’t because there were people waiting for early check in (standard check in is at 3pm). If this hotel was booked full for the following night and had to turn around the rooms I’d understand, but the fact that I was denied an IHG elite perk so that someone who presumably didn’t have status could have my room earlier than the stated check in time was nothing short of insulting. Thanks to their lack of service and lack of appreciation for elite members, I spent much of the afternoon running around jfk finding suitable places to work and charge my laptop as I had a flight later in the afternoon.
I frequent the JFK area for work and had stayed here before and reluctantly made due with the property conditions and service since IHG is my go to brand, but this experience and insulting level of service was the final straw. I won’t be staying here again even if it means staying at a non IHG hotel without the elite benefits and bonus points.
Oh also, the hotel is in a run down not so safe area, and there are sketchy people doing drugs walking in and out of the hotel (no idea if they’re guests or not). The front desk staff does nothing about it, yet conveniently the front desk is fully boarded up with plexiglass (as if they know how unsafe the...
