TLDR; hotel staff are friendly and hospitable, I believe the good reviews. However, there are bed bugs and I left as quick as I could.
Full review:
While a 1 star, this review aims to be fully honest with my experience. Therefore you will notice I speak highly of the hospitality team at this hotel.
Some background. I’m from the city but normally stay at the 1Hotel in Brooklyn or boutique hotels in the city for staycations. Having recently moved outside of the state and needing to return to the city for work, I decided to give Park Terrace a try. I booked as I was impressed with their reviews and my wanting to give something near Bryant Park a shot even though my office is in FlatIron.
Arrival was pleasant, the desk service very courteous. Upon getting up to the room, I set my things down by the entrance and go straight to the window as it’s a high floor. It was looking into an alley basically so was less excited hoping for a park view but no big deal. I then took a look at the table and sitting area and noticed water rings on the table and dust. This made me a little curious about the actual level of cleanliness so I got anxious about the bed. Pulled back the sheets, there was a hair but as with anyone’s clean laundry it happens, hair is there, no big deal. I slightly lifted the mattress and inspected, nothing. There was an unease at this point bc I simply expected cleaner from the reviews so I already had a gut sense not to unpack my things. I proceeded to use the restroom and on I began to inspect again, to which I noticed a stain on the headboard.
On further look, well, the picture tells the story. In that span of maybe 5-10 mins of my being in that room a bed bug as obvious as day was sitting there looking back at me. I took my items which I hadn’t begun to unpack thankfully, and went straight downstairs. I told the front desk “I need a refund immediately” and proceeded to show her the picture. She was extremely apologetic, offered an upgraded room to their studio room, but I was way too itchy to proceed at this point. She explained she couldn’t immediately refund me and the hold could take days to disappear, but she cancelled and sent me a confirmation as asked. She then handed me her Director of Rooms card, and asked me to email the picture to him, which I did the next day.
The Director of Rooms, called me to explain an exterminator would be stopping by to inspect and he would follow up. He later called to explain the exterminator had stopped by and found “no evidence of an infestation”. Take that statement as you wish, I personally wouldn’t expect anyone from the hotel to tell me there’s an infestation otherwise. The Director further explained he’s never had 1 review about bed bugs (which was true), and offered to comp my stay at 1Hotel Brooklyn or give me a few days at the highest tier room they have to make things right. I really appreciated this but did feel uneased about accepting the offer and posting this review as well, especially being that there are in fact no reviews about bed bugs which I would personally like to know before visiting a hotel.
In the end the offer made to me was 2 nights in a studio room which was less than the diff I paid so I opted against as I had already decided I’d be posting this review.
Overall I believe every review about the hospitality and the nice parts of staying at Park Terrace just in my brief interactions with them and my cancelled stay. However as with any hotel, the risk of pests are there and you have to make that call for yourself. As for me I went back and forth with the offer made to me but cannot bring myself to stay at a hotel I found a...
Read moreWe stayed here for seven nights. We didn’t realize this place was a Club Quarters Hotel. We stayed at a deluxe studio room with a view. We liked our room enough. However, we did run into several problems. While exploring level -2 to take a picture of their gym, we passed by two conference rooms, which had see through glass walls. We never opened any of the doors on that level. Then, while waiting for the elevators, a staff member, who was inside one of the conference rooms yelled out, “May I help you!!” With his tone of voice, it sounded more like, “WTF do you want!!!” The hotel is very small. You can walk from one end of the hallway to the other end in less than 10 seconds. . If they were so concerned about people walking in certain parts of the hallways maybe they should use stanchions.
OUT OF SERVICE ELEVATOR. Only one of the two elevators worked. On top of that, the staff used the same elevator. At times, we ended up riding the elevator with their huge carts and supplies. It was a nightmare. Once, we waited over 10 minutes. We and three other guests decided to walk down from the 11th floor! Crazy! We ended up inside the lobby of the residential part of the building, which has a separate entrance. We immediately spoke with the front desk. She took down our room number. That was her solution. Once we had the elevator to ourselves. A staff came on from level 4 to go to level 6. Most of the staff greet you when you are with them in the elevators, but this person gave us this weird unfriendly look. Also, the area around the elevators in the main lobby was so poorly lighted at night.
One morning, as I was leaving our room, I spoke with the housekeeping to have our bed made. I gave her $10. She told me she would do it. She even went inside our room. I thought we would have fresh sheets upon our return three hours later. Nope. The bed wasn’t made. We had to call housekeeping to get it done. It took a total of two phone calls and almost two hours have it done. We had to tip the new housekeeping staff $5. We complained to the front desk. He said it may be hard to track down the original housekeeper we gave $10 and implied that I shouldn’t have just flagged down the housekeeper because they are assigned rooms to clean. Blaming us was his solution.
Our room was pleasant and spacious. The main issue we had was there wasn’t enough towel hooks. There was only one for the bath towel and a small towel bar. The door handle to the bathroom had very sharp edges. It almost skinned me.
With the elevator issue and various problematic staff, we would not come back. We spent over $400/night. We expected better. We have to make sure we don’t stay at a Club Quarters hotel again. They didn’t impress us on our first visit, nor this...
Read moreWe arrived on a Thursday morning into NYC around 10 or 11 a.m. expecting to have to check out bags into the front desk since it was way before official "check-in" time and any rooms would be available and ready...well, Raquel (Yovanni and Arlette) were the smiles we needed to see when we approached to advise we've arrived and would love IF there was any room available to us, prior to venturing out and having to check in our bags/luggage...lo and behold, without even asking (or begging) Raquel worked her magic and advised us that she was able to move some things around and had a room available to us right now and it would be a free upgrade from the reservation we had initially placed (obviously at no extra cost to us)...AMAZING! We were relieved and so very thankful to Raquel (Yovanni and Arlette) for all of their sincere kindness and help; their hospitality helped make this NYC experience start off on the right foot and it was only good momentum from there!! The room was gorgeous, roomy and comfy with amenities that we certainly did not have with our first reservation and room we were intended. They provided complimentary welcome gifts (popcorn and alcohol!!) as well as the room having both a fridge and a microwave (we are EATERS, so immediately we knew those would come in handy for all of our NYC eats and leftovers, LOL!!). The bed, pillows, bedding and the couch we oh so comfy as well; everything was clean and seemed brand new, not one complaint at all. They are also green and provide complimentary fresh ice and filtered water to all guests which we took full advantage of during this super HOT Summer in NYC during our visit. We truly truly absolutely LOVED this hotel and would not even hesitate to reserve and stay here again and on top of that recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!! Once again, a BIG THANK YOU to Raquel, Yovanni, Arlette and even the front door staffers who were always so smiley, welcoming and friendly too upon entering and exiting the lobby area of the hotel throughout our stay, definitely cannot say enough or provide and give enough compliments...KUDOS to this property, management, staff...defining what hospitality is...
