After so many visits, I honestly can’t believe I am only writing this review now. Imagine this is 3 blocks away from my old apartment building, seriously, this took me moving away to write 😭)
My love for this place is unmatched. Yeah sure they keep the same menu, but honey have you tried the drinks? They don’t need to change it PERIODT. It’s every Asian Americans childhood memory turned into adulthood. Imagine Pipagao in your cocktail 👀 grandma would approve of that! ( not actually but there is a cocktail that taste like it 🥴)
Vibe check: The music: UGH so many classics get played, the volume is just loud enough for you to have great conversation but still be in the song.
The decor: Cozy, Dim but just the right amount of light, and you can tell the owners love their place, i.e; the vinyl collection 😩 the owners 100% percent went back to the promise and dug through every thrift/ record shop they could find ( or they have some really hip relatives and borrowed from their collection) A comedic touch- the mini retro karaoke, the cutest thing ever!!!!!(LITERALLY I ASK TO TAKE THAT HOME EVERYTIME, ONE DAY THEY’LL GIVE IN, I mean they caved and gave me a cup sooooo 🤷🏻♀️)
NOW THE CONSUMABLES:
GET THE FRIED PLATTER PLEASE, FOR YOUR SAKE AND MINE. No frills, just good o’l Taiwanese flavors and textures.
Get the Beef shank too ( maybe not on a date, cuz garlic may not help you, BUT IF YOU BOTH ROLL THAT WAY 😮💨)
I CANNOT GET OVER THE TEA COCKTAILS
SWEET GUILTY PLEASURE FAYES LOVE LIFE NOT THE MELON YOU KNOW ( osmanthus anything is...
Read moreRidiculous compulsory 22% gratuity charged on after tax price without informing me when I made the payment. 2. The shop asks $30 for me and my friends to cut the cakes and eat them in the restaurant while I made the reservation for six in advance and stating the birthday purpose. They didn’t state anywhere on the reservation page or their website that they require extra tips for larger party. Btw 5 people is not a large party that requires special attention according to the booking page. I refused to pay $30 cake cutting fee and didn’t eat cakes there so the place didn’t even provide cake cutting service or cleaning services. All they did was normal water/drinks services and lighting my candles. I think I ordered more than enough drinks for 5 people. I don’t see the owner has any rights to charge me for 22% tips. 3. I’ve been here before and I got to select my own tips amount. This is the first time me seeing compulsory all-included 22% gratuity. 4. There were no customers waiting in line after I came inside. There were no customers when I left around 11:30pm which is normal operating time for a bar so the shop didn’t entend operating hours just for me. They didn’t inform me they were closing either. Then what is this 22% after tax gratuity for? The owner is crazy. I need to...
Read moreThis place is so cool! If you're looking for a low-key night to catch up with some friends, looking for a nice, low key intimate date night, with good cocktails, food and amazing service, look no further then 929 in LIC.
It's easy to miss but not hard to find, just pay attention to the address. The music is very cool Asian pop music from the 80's and 90's. The volume on the music is just right, not at all obnoxiously loud. It's at the perfect volume where you can hear your fellow guest and but clearly make out the music. You can whisper, talk normally, without having to scream at each other or talk into each other's ear.
The food portions are small and a little pricey but every meal is really tasty and worth it. So don't come here expecting to fill your belly. Come from the incredibly unique and tasty drinks and eats but don't expect to be in a food coma. Unless you order a tremendous amount of food.
The service was on point. All the host were so nice, very knowledgeable about the food and drinks, made sure everything was okay and didn't try to rush us out. The bartenders were cool and funny.
The whole vibe is just really chill, relaxing, intimate. I really dig this spot and will return and highly...
