Updated Review - I went from 1 star to 3 stars, (It would have been 5 stars if my room was clean from the get-go) because the management handled things wonderfully. Thursday morning, the GM June was on top of everything and had my room thoroughly cleaned. She 100% agreed with me and told me this was unacceptable. She was willing to do anything to make it right. This is beyond critical in the hospitality industry, especially when someone has valid concerns.
It really was such a shame I had such a bad first night, because it really is a nice hotel if the rooms are kept clean. I feel as though housekeeping truly needs to be piggybacked by a manager, and thoroughly checked once finished. The front desk staff were beyond wonderful considering, but Travis the security guard was so nice and came up to the room to check for bed bugs, which was so beyond his scope of duties. However, he saw I was visibly upset, and if it wasn't for him springing into action, I think we would have left in the middle of the night.
Suggestions for management. Keep on top of housekeeping. You may have guests who are disappointed and who will not speak up, and leave unhappy. Reviews can make or break your business. It is so important for guests to be happy when they're visiting your establishment. Granted, OC is packed and there will always be someone who rents your rooms. However, you will not be able to charge what you charge if your rooms aren't kept to the standards and appearance you present online. . .
Initial review*
I will be willing to upgrade my review, once I speak to management.
I just checked in tonight, late and I will say the two women at the hotel front desk were absolutely wonderful! They were so willing to help and beyond friendly. It was a great start to a mini-getaway with my youngest son.
But then, the nightmare began. . .
Please see photos-
You must imagine my surprise to check in here and see the condition of the room! It is absolutely disgusting. If I wasn't so exhausted, and didn't have to park a few blocks away, we would be leaving tonight. There is nothing they can do to get us in another room, due to the managers being gone for the evening. I won't even discuss the interaction I had with the girl at the front desk after midnight. . . This was headache inducing.
I am in great hopes they will either place us in another room, or take a true housekeeping staff in this room and clean it. I am so disgusted right now, I am stunned!
Mold growing on the walls, hair everywhere and what appears to be a man's "bodily fluids" on the bed skirt. So sick to my stomach.
This is our first trip to OC. To be honest, I have lived in MD for 15 years and never had a desire to visit. However, my 10-year-old son was dying to go, so we escaped for a few days. I did my due-diligence and spent several hours reading reviews for hotels. This hotel had great reviews (besides a small few about the cleanliness, I should have taken heed) so I booked two nights here. I must wonder what the homes look like of the people who made fantastic reviews about cleanliness. Surely, I cannot be the only one who notices these things. . .
Location is fantastic, but the rooms are disgusting. They look clean from the initial walk in, but they truly are disgusting. Ugh, can't believe I am going to be sleeping in a bed with what appears to be some man's bodily fluids on the bed-skirt.
Photos attached. Travelers who live in clean homes and thrive off of being in a clean hotel room, BEWARE.
Sidebar - I stay at the Hilton and Marriott often when I travel, and I have never seen anything like this. Such a shame. This already has put such a sour taste...
Read moreI have never been treated like I didn't matter at any hotel in my life until I stayed here. I booked my trip through my job which used booking.com for a king bed with ocean view balcony, when we arrived to check in, they told me that my room was in the "beach house" a block away with no balcony. When I inquired about it, I was told that the "king deluxe" was the room they gave me and its on the 3rd floor facing the city. They said they would not honor my original room booking because they "dont know how the site is booking the wrong rooms, that is has been an issue for a couple of weeks and they are sold out in the main hotel and cannot offer me anything else" which was BS. So, we went to our room which was indeed on the 3rd floor with no elevator and I have a torn meniscus which made this extremely difficult and painful to get to the room. We got to the room, discovered no running hot water in the bathroom sink and a large squished bug in between my pillow and the pillow case. That was the last straw, so I went back down to the front desk to alert to them to the condition of the room. They were able to move us to a first floor exterior entrance room still in the "beach house" and still no balcony which I paid for. They comped the first night when they moved us...still haven't seen a refund yet tho. We grab all of our stuff from the 3rd floor room and made our way to the new room. It wreaked of cigarette smoke and was absolutely filthy. There was mold on the shower ceiling, pink particles of some sort in all corners of the bathroom, a huge stain on the bedspread, stains on the carpet, streaks of liquid/food down the side of the refrigerator, broken supports on the fridge door so we couldn't use the compartments, there were ants EVERYWHERE and was given dirty "clean" towels from housekeeping. During checkout, the manager who was aware of our issues didn't even ask us how the rest of our stay was or anything but let me tell you, if you had a key card that said "commander hotel and suites" on it, they were super nice and inviting. The reservation issue was nothing of my doing and even showed them the emails that I received stating reservations for The Commander Hotel amd Suites, not The Commander Beach house which is a completely separate booking option. They singly handedly ruined my vacation. I was so upset the whole time. I worked hard to afford what I thought was going to be a great relaxing retreat but instead was stuck in a depressing filth. I have never wanted a vacation to end so bad. This was my first trip to Ocean City MD and will be my last. They initially did offer me to cancel my reservations and to refund my money but then I wouldn't have anywhere to stay and I was 6 hours from home. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone, ever. The only nice part was the pool but even at that, they were no beach towels left to use and the outside pool closed way too early but it was located close to the beach. All I can say is "thanks Commander Hotel for absolutely ruining my vacation. I truly appreciate you đ I wish I could post the pictures that I took.......you would be...
Read moreAfter a 3 hr drive to the Commander Hotel in Ocean city MD. We were tired and were anxious to hit the beach. We checked in, registered our vehicle and parked in the designated parking lot. The room was clean, modern and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. After checking out our room and unpacking, we went back down stairs to hit the boardwalk. We spent the entire day walking around, seeing the sites, came back and had dinner on the boardwalk. The next morning we got dressed to head to the beach. We went out to the parking lot to grab our pop up tent when we couldn't find our vehicle anywhere on the lot. We headed back inside to report our missing car when we were learned that our car had been towed. Why was our car towed? We had backed our truck into the V.I.P. slot on the lot which we were totally unaware of. We were not furnished with a parking pass and they had not registered our vehicle in their computer. After making us aware of where our car was we were responsible for getting to the tow lot to retrieve our truck but we had no way of getting there and had no idea of how to get there! One of the attendees at the front desk was very helpful where the manager persisted in blaming us for parking in the V.I.P. which btw we were unaware of because we backed in. However if they were able to cross check our tags with the registry they would've seen that we were indeed guest and had us move the car. The front desk attendant called the tow company to make sure there would be someone there when we got there to pick up the car when the tow company told her that the car was in the police tow lot about 10 blocks up the road and that was about the best part of this story. The hotel manager informed us that they'd assume part of the cost of the tow because they hadn't registered our car but upon returning from the car lot two and half hours later and with three hundred twenty-three dollars less money, the manager said that they'd take care of the entire cost. Finally able to head out to the beach for the remainder of the day and being assured that we would be reimbursed for the tow, we felt whole. Today on October 5, 2020 we have yet to receive compensation for that tow. On our way to the police station the cab driver told us that the very same thing had happened to another visitor staying at the commander a week prior to our stay on August 12-14. Also at the police station the officer told us that this happens often which leads me to believe that it's almost a set up. I really liked the hotel and was sure we would return as this was his second time visiting the Commander to my first. Again the hotel was clean, modern, the front desk staff was friendly, accommodating, went above and beyond, the proximity to the beach couldn't be beat however, be very careful about making certain that your vehicle has been registered so that no part of your vacation is ruined. We felt like we were deceived. No return on the money spent to retrieve...
