I believe the main thing that drives 5-star reviews of this property is people love to stay in a new place with a more modern decor unlike your typical aging worn beach property with strange smells or worn furniture and paper thin walls. This property has none of those and feels virtually brand new.
The property is also quiet, especially on the beach side, not allowing anyone under 21 or pets so this is definitely an adults-only property - a plus for some a minus for others.
Staff is great and very COVID aware although when getting coffee there was a couple also in the office without a mask and staff said nothing which seems to go against their stated strict COVID policy (like wearing gloves when checking in.)
Breakfast is light continental, oatmeal, breakfast bars. So this is not one of those places with a free full breakfast. And you take it back to your room (no dining room)
The units on the beach side have no view but there is a big grass areas with fire put to sit around, although why sit here if you've driven all this way to SEE the ocean. We knew this but were very surprised the property has no path to the beach so you need to walk 15 minutes or drive around and on to the beach. You don't get any ocean sound on the street side units.
The bed has nice linens but is pretty squishy so firm to semi-firm mattress lovers may be disappointed. Fridge and microwave which is nice.
No A/C and there's no way to get good ventilation without opening your window and running the bathroom fan. So on a sunny days in Summer these rooms can get hot and if you are on the roadside units, leaving the window open can get a little noisy, especially due to the Seagulls that hangout on the roof of the neighboring property that are cawing off and on all day.
Great Internet Speed but no USB charging ports.
If you want that new, modern room feel in a very clean property and basically just need a place to sleep and be centrally located - this is a good choice for under the $150 price point. Otherwise if you want an ocean view or even a convenient path to the beach from the property, I would look elsewhere which isn't going...
Read moreWe tried something new because our regular hotel (the Canterbury Inn) was booked, so we decided to try the Ocean Shores Resort. It’s a little motel I’ve passed by many times. From the outside it’s painted in spring colors and looks cute and clean, but as soon as you pull in, you know something is off. I wasn’t expecting a “resort,” just a clean, remodeled motel.||We arrived an hour before check-in and there was a note on the door saying the office was closed. I called and they let us in early. Martin checked us in and was nice, but the office smelled like a pet store. I had to hold my breath.||Our room was upstairs over the office, which felt awkward and unsafe. The room itself stunk. One window had a dead bee in the sill, the other a dead fly. The kitchen had grease on the stove and refrigerator. Martin came up and cleaned it when I showed him. While he was there, I noticed disgusting sticky gunk next to the bed—dust, dirt, and hair stuck in it. I showed him a picture and he cleaned that too. But when I pulled back the sheets, I found long blonde hairs and a stain. That was it—I couldn’t stay.||Martin admitted “it’s hard to find good help” and even said he talks to the Canterbury Inn staff for tips. That just made me wonder, because Canterbury’s housekeeping is always excellent.||I left immediately, called Canterbury, and thank God they found us a clean two-bedroom suite with a pool, hot tub, staffed desk, and ocean view. It was more expensive but worth every penny.||Before leaving, I told Martin about the dirty sheets and he promised a refund. I’m still waiting. Ocean Shores Resort has ignored calls and emails. Booking.com also refused to help—they just told me to call the property or leave a review. So now I’ll have to go through my credit card company.||Bottom line: Ocean Shores Resort is dirty, unprofessional, and not safe. I won’t book through Booking.com again either, since they don’t back up...
Read moreThe rooms were beautiful, like twilight zone to the rest of our experience. The entire atmosphere was EXTREMELY trashy and ghetto... This is our ACTUAL Check in experience. ||||We drive in, and assume the office is where it is.. nothing marked, fine. No one is there, but soon after a man comes in a cut off t-shirt and checks us in and gives us keys.. ||We walk up to a wide open door, piles of bedding on the bed, a mop... and an obviously undone room. - this was 2.5 hours after check in time. We go back in. Said guys is already gone... find him tell him our room is not clean, which he walks out and simply shrugs and goes... "you know Covid - No one to work" LEGIT NOT ONE TIME did anyone act like this was weird... or out of sorts or abnormal to be handed a room key to a undone room... That was over $200 to start! He mumbles something and just walks away. ||||We literally just stand there not sure what to do. So... we start making the bed... but not all the bedding was there... The housekeeping lady walks in and goes, I don't have anything for you, and I don't know when it is going to be done... So we ask like what our plan should be... and she was like. I don't know.... So I helped her make the bed with what she did have. I am pretty understanding, but not ONE person seemed to care or apologize for ANY of this. ||||We left to go to the beach, and see said office guy playing on a skateboard... while "He doesn't have anyone to work to clean rooms.. cool dude. ||||The outside reeked like pot - and the entire things was just BLAH. I contacted the management, and they seemed to care about as much as the employee... " Sorry you had this experience, did you talk to someone at the property?" --- Wait you mean the one I am complaining about? --- yeah, yeah, or course I complained to him about his lack of caring....?||||DO NOT GO...
