My husband and I only had a half day to spend on the beach with our Toddler who was tired from traveling and a little too small to enjoy the beach (she was clearly overwhelmed and not ok with sand getting on her feet or the wind in her hairđ). We rented two electric bikes and one tow trailer, and this was the perfect solution for all of us to enjoy the beach! The electric assist and fat tires allowed us to cover a lot of distance in the hour we had and was very exhilarating. The trailer has the option of a mesh cover or full on wind blocking plastic cover, allowing the baby to enjoy the ride completely enclosed. My husband is not super inclined to try new things and I could tell he was reluctant, never having ridden an electric bike. Within minutes he had a huge smile on his face! We ended up staying out the entire hour and plan to do this every time we visit OS. The family who own this business are incredibly polite and professional, and they will tell you everything you need to know to protect their equipment and have a safe ride. We were so grateful for their pleasant customer service and the flow of the rental process in spite of it being pretty busy. I do have some insights for the ride itself:
The bikes can be ridden at speeds up to 20 mph, however I would be very careful at these speeds as there can be obstacles on the beach that canât be seen until you are right on them. At one point I traded bikes so I could ride the one without the trailer and go really fast. I ended up hitting a pot hole in the sand and my life flashed before my eyes. Luckily the bikes are sturdy and nothing happened, but it definitely deterred me from wanting to go that fast again. Iâve never seen my husband laugh so hardđ. Just be careful and it is still so much fun at moderate speeds! Also, it is made very clear that the bikes are not to be ridden in the water, and at low tide there can be puddles and streams remaining that are hard to see coming up if you are going too fast. Just some...
Read moreI had the worst experience today. I have rented here before and wasnât pleased with the customer service, but today topped it for us. We waited in line for 2 hours. As we were waiting, the people working kept pulling people from the back of the line for their rentals even though others have been waiting. This is where my immediate frustration happened. Itâs finally our turn and we go inside. One of the gals walking us in, looked at me directly in my face and said with a rude tone âWhere is your mask?â Immediately confused.. I answer âitâs on my face?â She said âoh.â (That was weird) then she gives me the contract and tells me to sign and initial in certain highlighted spots. I do that. Then another lady tells me I need to sign the next section which is for a completely different rental bike. I told her I didnât want that one I wanted the peddle bike for $20 not $40. She said it doesnât matter you have to sign that. I said it didnât make sense. She said âwell it makes sense to everyone else!â I responded with âwow Iâm really disappointed in your customer service today.â They gal then said âyou can leave then!â I said âexcuse me?â Then the owner (which I found out was the owner when I spoke to the police) approached me directly in my face maybe 4 inches from my face and says to leave. At this point I was furious. I demanded corporate number and they refused. I asked for their names and they refused. They threatened to call the cops on me so I immediately got my phone out and called the cops. The officer I spoke to said this isnât their first rodeo. This has happened before. This place should be out of business if they talk to their customers like this!! I had both of my children ages 4 and 8 with me and they are in complete disbelief people can be that horrible. We traveled 3 hours to ocean shores to have a great time and this place ruined it for us. I will tell EVERYONE I know to never go here. They donât deserve...
Read moreMy experience with this bike shop singlehandedly spoiled my entire day at Ocean Shores. We rented a trike and a bike for 1 hour for $70. The bike was working well enough but the trike was incredibly unbalanced and constantly veering left. I thought it was user error so I was going to practice on the beach so I spent ten minutes hauling the heavy metal bike to the beach. When i got there i quickly realized it wasn't user error and the bike really was just not working as intended. I had some of my family and friends try it and they all agreed it was just unrideable for more than a couple seconds.
Since we had already spent twenty minutes dragging the trike to the beach and trying to get it to work we couldn't spend any time riding the working bike. We called the store to ask for a possible return and they said they would only give us a partial return and ONLY if we got back to the store in 10 minutes. We had to hastily haul the dyfunct metal trike all the way back through the sand and to the beach as quick as we could. They only refunded half of our $70 payment so we spent $35 on spending thirty minutes straining our arms and being frustrated with an unusuable broken trike. We never even got to ride the working bike and they still insisted that we don't get reimbursed fully. It was overall just an extremely frustrating experience and I can strongly discourage anyone from renting a bike from here. Unless you want to get scammed and/or ruin your day, take your business elsewhere. Ocean Shores seems to have a horse-riding area. I wish we had spent our money there instead of this...
