I went to their corporate website and emailed them explaining the experience, letting them know what was wrong, as well as what wasn't truly honored. I received a phone call the very next day by the assistant manager and he asked to hear about the experience. After explaining everything he was very understanding, apologized for the lack of cleanliness, and explained why the pool looked slightly green. He also explained why the balconies weren't completely cleaned, as well as many other things. I felt like he truly cared about what I had to say, he took it as an opportunity to make changes, and improve conditions. I was very pleased with how professional, and sincere he was. He refunded the romance package, as well as asked us to give his hotel a second chance with discounts associated with your future stay. My husband and I are more than willing to give them a second chance, especially after being provided with the level of care and professionalism that the manager gave us. They are actively using their time to improve the hotel during the slower season, so don't cross this hotel off your list just yet, allow them time to improve.
REVIEW BEFORE
For my birthday my husband booked at this hotel, he paid $80.00 extra for a romance package. Having paid for that package means we get to check in early, and check out later than what's required, the room was supposed to have champagne, chocolates, and a $50.00 voucher to dinner in their restaurant. However, we showed up to the hotel at 2PM since that's the "early check in time", the room wasn't ready till 4:10PM. When we got to our room there was no champagne, no chocolates, no dinner voucher. My husband calls the front desk to ask why they aren't in there and we got the same excuse as before with the check in time, that they were completely booked the day before and it took a long time to turn over the rooms. I'm not trying to be unreasonable, so we said it was alright, but to please send up what we paid for. We waited, and waited until someone finally came up with our champagne, chocolates, and voucher. The room is nice, until you start using anything or opening things. There was a left over little bag in the kitchen drawer that had cracker crumbs in it, there was left over hair in the shower, and the hair dryer smelt like something died in it. The coffee making area in the room had McDonald sugar packets, and no exact way to make the coffee. The balcony was DISGUSTING, I'm not talking about the birds, that's inevitable. But there was mildu, grime, and whatever else all over the chairs, it was disgusting. The balcony looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The only window you receive in the room was disgustingly dirty with bird poop, dirt, maybe moss? I'm not sure it was green and black, which to me is very gross. The bed was so stiff that it felt like sleeping on cement. Basically yes you have a great beach location to stay in, but you aren't getting what you pay for at this hotel. The rates they charge you would think your staying in a very nice hotel but once you get into the room it's really not nice, it's dirty, and needs to be upgraded. Don't spend the amount they are asking for to stay in a dirty room, where they don't honor the packages they sell, and check you in very late even if your reservation is GUARANTEED! By the way, the dinner at this hotel is EXTREMELY over priced, breakfast and lunch are reasonable and tasted way better than the over priced seafood they try dishing out. You will have better luck at any other hotel...
Read moreVery outdated, looked like it was probably nice in the early 90's, but needs a LOT of improvement. Our suites didn't have many of the things most hotel rooms have in them, like hand soap, shampoo & conditioner, hooks to hang up your towels...basic stuff! The beds didn't have comforters, just sheets. It was nice to have a balcony with a (far-away) view of the beach, but there was no screen on the door and the door wouldn't stay open. We had to use the flimsy, dirty white plastic patio chairs to keep it open. The one window in the room also didn't have a screen on it, and the AC wasn't the greatest. The beds were pretty hard and lumpy, and even though there weren't comforters, there were extra pillows in some of the drawers, though some were ALSO super lumpy and hard... There also weren't personal lamps next to each bed, just one lamp in between that only had the one light. Another lamp in the room didn't even turn on. We did have a little living room area in the suite that had a nice electric fireplace, and an extra counter space with a sink, microwave, little coffee machine, and a mini fridge/freezer. There was also a kitchen table (with 2 mismatched chairs), a super old little TV (one of the 90's square box tvs 📺 lol), and a loveseat that pulled out into another bed. But the loveseat was so old, stained, and worn, I was reluctant to sit on it. 😬 Not a whole lot of space for family to sit down and play card games, etc. I'm not sure if the hotel even had Wi-Fi, but I know our TV only had cable, no access to streaming services, or smart capabilities. Again, everything was VERY outdated! The ice bucket provided didn't have a liner, and one of the ice machines I walked to was out of ice. I didn't know where the other one was so I just walked down the hall and around again to find one that worked, lol... We enjoyed the pool and sauna, but their hot tub was out of service, so we were bummed about that. My son did like that they had a big fish tank that bordered the entire fitness center/pool area, and in the lobby they had some cool ship replicas. My sister was the one who booked the 2 suites we stayed in, so I can't say anything about the cost of our stay. But I know she thought she was booking some very nice suites for us (her & her husband, their daughter, and then my mom, and my son & I who were visiting from out of state) on the beach. We were so excited to enjoy the fancy hotel, lol... it was a little disappointing for us all I think. I felt bad my sister had spent so much on the rooms and it wasn't what was expected. But we did still enjoy our stay as much as possible, as we were only there one night anyway. It was also wonderful to be a walking distance from the beach, and my sister and my mom were able to bring their dogs. All in all, it's a below average hotel, for above average...

I have endured a health crisis after staying the night at this hotel. I have talked with several workers at the hotel and have not got resolution. The cleaner spray provided by the front desk (so that I could clean our room that was not cleaned previous to our arrival) has caused a respiratory reaction and has affected my health.
Not to mention I spent over an hour having to clean our room upon arrival. By cleaning I mean true housekeeper cleaning, very physically demanding.
This was the original issue. Our room was not cleaned for us before our stay
I am so upset about everything with our stay. I would like a full refund and to be done with this.
We did not deserve to have our weekend go this way. We chose to stay with Shilo and do regret it. Today I am still dealing with respiratory distress.
When we checked in we settled down and noticed our room was literally filthy.
Finger nail clippings, hairs, food crumbs in dresser drawers
Finger and hand smudges and smears on big glass photo, also on all mirrors and surfaces (you could see the filth when the light shined on it, but not when we first walked in and lights were off.)
Food remnants and crumbs on the floor and around edge of bed (whole goldfish crackers)
Sinks not cleaned
Shower completely filthy. Many many hairs, slimy scum on shower wall and floor, smears on curtain rail.
Toilet- yuck!
I had to clean biohazard! Feces and urine on the seat, underside of toilet on front, and also on floor around toilet edge.
Bathroom floor filthy. Hairs, scum, debris
All mirrors not wiped
Appliances not cleaned or wiped down
Daniel at the front desk was very unprofessional. I do reccomend further training for this individual.
I am unsure of his position at the hotel, he informed me he is the one who runs the hotel and is the highest position person I am able to talk with about my issue. I do not believe this is true and hope to recieve resolution. He also said that there is absolutely no chemicals they use that have any "harsh" ingredients which is untrue. He said the strongest chemical they use is hydrogen peroxide, which is also completely untrue.
What I was handed to clean our room was a white spray bottle from under the front desk counter. It was a disinfectant sanitizer- no where on the bottle was it labeled as hydrogen peroxide and it definitely did not smell like hydrogen peroxide. It was not hydrogen peroxide as Daniel argued on the phone with me as he accosted me.
Regardless of his disagreement with the disinfectant spray causing me respiratory distress, the way our room was when we arrived and me having to clean and disinfect for over an hour is wildly inappropriate! That is a situation that should never happen to a guest of your hotels, and if it unfortunately does then it should...
