First time back here in nearly 20 years when my family vacationed here in high school. Cool to see this place is still around as I spent many mornings swinging by here. Atmosphere is solid, relatively clean and hasn’t changed much from my memory. If you like bustling/social chatter for your sit-in experience, this is the spot on the island.
Usually a line of about 10 people that moves quick enough. Most of the staff seem quite kind enough and good service… BUT… after seeing a couple reviews about angry beard man, can 100% confirm. He wasn’t raging angry but was just incredibly rude for really no reason at all. I’ve worked in coffee shops and food service and just feel like it’s never how I’d treat a customer.
Didn’t catch what coffee roaster they serve there but whatever it is it’s not great at all. Decided to stick with my coffee from home after one sip. Might work for you and feel fancy if your standard is Starbucks or Dunkin but just wasn’t my cup of Joe. Their smoothies are pretty solid 7/10, would recommend that over their coffee. A bunch of fun combos so you kinda can’t go wrong there. Pastries are pretty solid 7/10 too, nothing super boutique fresh baked daily kinda thing but maybe local baked 2 days ago down the street kinda thing. Pumpkin cheesecake muffin was the winner for me.
TLDR: Give it a shot for sure. It will probably fit most folks needs. Just tread lightly with beards guy and moderate your expectations for the coffee fidelity and you got yourself a lovely place to read a book...
Read moreWe have been coming to Ocracoke every year for the last decade, and one of the highlights of our mornings has always been a visit to this coffee shop. It used to be the perfect start to the day, but sadly, the atmosphere has steadily declined, particularly this year.
There's one individual, who I believe is a part-owner (man with long hair and a beard), who has been consistently rude to both myself and other customers during my visits this year. He seems utterly disinterested in his job, and unfortunately, that attitude is evident in the overall customer experience. He ignores customers until they’re visibly frustrated, then reluctantly takes orders without making eye contact or offering any courtesy. Orders are shoved at you with a clear lack of care, and there’s no acknowledgment or appreciation for returning customers.
If I wanted to be treated this poorly, I would have stayed in the Northeast. It’s disappointing because this coffee shop has always been a significant part of my beach experience, but after this year, I won’t be coming back. I’ll also be advising my friends, who frequent the island, to avoid wasting their time or money here. It’s a shame to see how the branding and reputation have been tarnished by such poor treatment of customers, and I imagine they’ll have a hard time recovering from this especially if they...
Read moreThis was our third time visiting and having coffee-based drinks, although we were sadly disappointed this time. Four employees; one cleaning dining area, one stocking and cleaning kitchen area, two taking orders and preparing for about 35 guests. The espresso is excellent, cold & hot drinks are never sweet enough even when requested, and never offer a whipped topping and always out when requested. The young lady worked quickly and friendly, the man with longer hair was obviously sick, never washing his hands despite sneezing, coughing, and blowing his nose... 🤢 He proceeded to admit it as he prepared either an alka seltzer or some type of clear powder medicinal drink, which he drank as he worked as well. He was short, ill-mannered, sloppy drinks all over the cups and counter, not friendly, and quite simply, just rude and unappreciative of the patrons. I hope their able to sale it soon, as the for sale sign states, and they get someone there who wants the business this place gets, and people leave with smiles on their faces instead of frustration from having to "doctor" the drinks they ordered, clean them up, and have them shoved into another cup, if their cup happens to split all the way down the side, like my Daughter's did! Do better Ocracoke Coffee Company; you represent...
