Amazing place, amazing food. I highly suggest making your way to silver lake at sunset for one of the greatest photo chances on the east coast. Going over the man-made Marina with large sail boats and down two Bern's that protect the harbor the sun sets right there. I wish I had charged my phone and camera. Alas we can't always be connected, and it was a beautiful sight. You can eat right on the harbor. Freshest fish, red drum, shrimp and raw oysters ect. Ramp 72 which is on the left coming up route 12 is a beautiful walk and drive, bring bug spray, tanning spray and water as it is a mile and a half roughly to the beach. If you drive you must have a permit to do so, costs I believe fifteen dollars, and if you are fishing you need to buy a salt water license which is 8$ USD for ten days even if you have a life sportsman license in NC. Carry these with you at all times, the rangers and police patrol the shore and while they leave you alone usually they will periodically check that you are following the rules and staying legal. I do not know where you can buy these on the island but you can buy it from Frank and Franz on your way into Hatteras or the ranger station at the lighthouse. Make sure you respect the local islanders, while they enjoy your business the Hussle and bussle after a long winter is something that can annoy them especially with the guys and gals who inbibe too much. Keep it civil and keep it quiet, roughly a thousand people live year round there and are mostly hard working individuals who are fisherman, firefighters, guides and those who keep the houses in the best shape they can for us to enjoy. Please be respectful and enjoy it!! Amazingly nice, sometimes crazy people who really like...

I have been to Ocracoke for vacation several times. My wife and I absolutely love this little piece of paradise. The beaches go on for what seems like forever. The water is very warm. Great little shops and places to eat. The fresh seafood is amazing. Very scenic and great for pictures. The trail to Teach's Hole is a nice little walk through a wooded area only to open up to a wonderful little area on the sound side. Also the boat tour to Portsmouth is awesome. Portsmouth is very remote and great for shelling. Just make sure to take the bug spray. All in all awesome place to be. I will be going again in the future.

8/2020: Back to this beautiful island again for another year. Wow we were worried about the island following hurricane Dorian and then another punch of trouble due to COVID. But this is such an amazing place with great people who will not let this island stay down. I truly do enjoy everything this island has to offer. It is an extra trek sound from the famous OBX but Ocracoke ranks much higher to me. See some...

I’m not really a big fan of this Island and I travel a lot. Most everything was closed, only opened on the weekend. The places that were open were ok. We ate lunch at Howard’s Pub and the food was great as was the service. We rented a golf cart from Wheelie Fun Cart Rentals and they were really great, only $50 for 4 hours. All in all the trip was ok. I expected since I was going to be on such a small island that I would see more water but you aren’t allowed to take your golf cart down to the beach parking area and other than the docks you don’t see any water. Also want to mention the transit system which is amazing and if you are going to visit this island you should use it if you choose not to ferry your car over. If I ever come back I will ferry my vehicle over so I can go...
