My husband and I live in OKC and for a Paul McCartney concert night out, opted to stay at the Ambassador. We are sophisticated travelers and stay at the best hotels when we travel to fun places, including the Peninsula chain hotels, Mandarin Oriental, Ritz and others. So out of all the hotels in downtown OKC, we chose the Ambassador for our special McCartney night. I say this so that the reader will understand our perspective and to know why the superior quality of this OKC hotel cannot be ignored. We were not disappointed. We got the executive corner room, top floor, and had a lovely view of downtown OKC. Just FYI, in the past, we have had drinks at the O bar and it is a very classy bar, beautifully designed and offers the absolute best views of downtown OKC. Wish they had live piano music because if they did, we would likely be there every night!
The linens were top quality, they had feather pillows and the room was ICE cold in hot July, which was a huge plus. Very comfortable robes, bathroom was very nice, with a roomy tub. Not the very best bathroom I've seen (Peninsula and Mandarin's are hard to beat) but it was definitely nice, clean and well equipped. I had read reviews some rooms can be noisy due to the proximity to the street so I requested a higher floor and packed ear plugs and slept like a baby. The staff were excellent. We used the services of the chauffeur, valet, and bellmen and each were equally efficient, professional and friendly (but not overly so). Just right! The front desk clerks were very efficient, welcoming, and excellent. We will definitely stay here again and recommend doing so to all our out of town business associates and friends. Believe me, we know the other hotels in this area and this is our choice, hands down! (Note: for some reason it has our age as 18-25 but that is not correct. Not saying what it is but Paul McCartney...
Read moreLet me start off by stating that I stressed over my decision to pay the extra $$$ to book this hotel for our anniversary weekend. It was a bit more than the other 2 options we had downtown but decided to opt for this one. Location is what put this hotel above the others but it's what ended up being a bit of a drawback. There was A LOT of street noise/people into the wee hours of both mornings/nights. Even though we were on the 5th floor it sounded like we had party folks standing right outside our windows. The first night as well...the fire alarm went off! Scaring us out of a deep sleep! Guess it was a false alarm because nothing was ever mentioned from the staff. I also have a hard time sleeping if it's not completely dark...there are only shutters and no curtains so light filters in heavily. If you like a firm bed you're in luck but the bed felt like a rock to us. On to the AC...it works and cools very well but it's EXTREMELY LOUD. We had to keep adjusting the TV volume every time it came on and off. Again...EXTREMELY LOUD. Another thing I wish was different was the bathroom lighting, most higher end hotels have the lighting in the bathroom on at least 2 different switches so you can have part of the lights on (i.e. just the vanity light or shower or toilet) but not this room. It was all or nothing. The shower had multiple places with mold. EWWW. All of that being said, the room was very spacious. The finishes were inline with what we expected. The most outstanding part of this establishment was by far the staff. Everyone did their most to be accommodating and friendly. Front desk, valet, shuttle driver and bartender. All were superb. I won't go out of my and pay the extra $$$ next time but I'd return if I happened upon...
Read moreWhen we travel south for the winter, we now plan our stops (there and back) so that we stay at Marriott's Autograph hotels. Our first Autograph stay was in Kansas City, then Oklahoma City, then Amarillo. All fantastic stays!! We were so impressed the super snappy Bonvoy Marriott app that makes checking-in easy; with thoughtful room layout and elegant design; the professional and friendly staff; and two other very important aspects: dog friendly rooms that do not seem to be "dog" rooms and each hotel had a top-notch restaurant for room service.
We are empty-nesters with a hypoallergenic 18 lb Havanese/Poodle. He's cleaner than most children. Most hotels that are dog friendly reliably smell like they are. Not Marriott's Autograph hotels.
After a long day of driving, what one wants more than anything is to shower and order a hopefully delicious meal from room service. The restaurants at all three of our Autograph stays delivered out-of-this-world meals. I have extensively traveled for business and I can tell you I have not consistently had such good room service and meals as I have had at these hotels. This does not happen by accident or luck - it is the result of a thoughtful, well-executed business plan.
Furthermore, the neighborhood where the Ambassador Oklahoma Autograph is is such a lovely neighborhood my husband and I wondered if this we should move there. There were five restaurants all within walking distance, an independent book store, and right on Oklahoma's lovely little trolley system - it was fabulous. The sky was a big bright blue and the sun was golden. And the people couldn't be nicer.
Commendations to Marriott for developing the model that addresses the desires of your market. ...
