Hotels are gross. I've spent 9 weeks here this year. It's not until this week I've had ants and a toilet bowl ring. Otherwise not bad. I just don't leave rings in my personal toilets and never invited ants into my home. The ants were carrying another guests crumbs out of the room. It's too bad I can't upload the video of how bad the ants were in the morning. There were hundreds. I'm guessing they were running a night op and I got up earlier than expected. This is 12 hours later. I don't think offering to move someone is a good solution. I shouldn't have to move upstairs to avoid your ants.

This room definitely had someone smoke before and left a very strong smoking smell in the room. I talked with the front desk, and she came in and check the smell and said she can’t smell anything, but the cleaning smell. But all of us (6 people) agreed with the terrible smell in the room, and the front desk said smell nothing. And she didn’t even want offer any kind of help, just kept saying sorry and without actually feeling sorry for us, and not even want to find anything that could possibly help us.

It was fine. People working there were super nice. The room was newish but definitely... lived in. Cosmetic things mostly but come in Hilton, you can do better for one of your most popular hotel chains. It's in an odd location but convenient if you're passing through. Safe, quiet. Really the only issue was the cosmetic stuff.

It was a last minute trip. Our reservations got a little confusing. Part of that was my fault for letting seniors try to arrange everything. The staff did great with accommodations and making things work out. This hotel is part of the Hilton Honors, I always like to stay with the Hilton's. Because they are always very clean. A few things in my room could have used some detailed cleaning. I dropped my room key on the floor, when I went to pick it up I noticed a lot of debris on the carpet under the heater attached to the wall. House keeping needs to take the hose attachment and really get to that. It does look like it was neglected for some time. Our room also needed to be dusted. There was dust on the lamp bases. The linen was very clean and the beds are very comfortable. I think the hotel as a whole could use some good handyman or woman. Some things in the bathroom were kind of wonkey. I was asking myself, why would anyone do that! Haha Also, the faucet in the bathroom would leak from the handle. Our neighbors was also leaking. Giving these times, I can understand if management can't keep up on detailed maintenance. I can't find anyone to do simple things around my house without them wanting to rob me. Hopefully they can hire a person just to make some small improvements. I also thought the pool area could use some love. The hot tub has black mildew like substance in the inside walls. Not saying it is mildew or mold, but it didn't look very pleasant. The pool bathroom was very clean. The workout room was very clean. The lobby was spotless, and pleasant. I enjoyed the 24 hour coffee and hot cocoa station. And the peppermints on the end table were a great add. This is also a dog friendly hotel. That was very kind for staff to accommodate people's pet. These pets mean the world to many people and help them in life. For a person to be able to travel with their pet that's amazing. And no pets bothered or disturbed us.

I also want to say the breakfast both mornings was very very good! They really keep it very clean and are very detailed. In the way they place the ketchup packets in the holder, to the way they had the stainless steel warmer shiney and spotless. To the durable disposable plates and bowls. Man are those some nice disposable plates! The food was very good and fresh! The scrambled eggs were perfectly prepared. My kids really enjoyed making their own waffles. The chocolate muffins were my go to and the Orange juice was really good quality. This was the first time I can give a hotel continental breakfast a 5 ++ stars. I've stayed many places and no others has compared to this breakfast. To the gentleman in charge of breakfast, your doing an amazing job!!!!!

Last but not least all hotel staff we encountered were very friendly. One thing I have noticed about Hilton staff from our stays in Texas, Michigan to Illinois. All the staff are always so friendly and truly happy to put a smile on for their customers. This specific location. Every single person from the housekeeping, the person making breakfast, and all the front desk attendants are very customer service friendly. This alone can make a world of difference when it comes to people picking a place to stay. No hassles, just friendly folks!

The owner of this hotel should be very proud to have such a great group of staff. I hope they are paid well for their time and efforts. Because it is showing and very beneficial.

Thank you for a great stay. If we ever come back to this specific area again. We would only...

If I could give zero stars, I would. The night of our wedding, in September 2021, my husband and I stayed there. In the middle of the night we were woken up by someone body slamming our door, screaming, yelling about how he was going to kill someone, slamming the door to the stairwell over and over. Michael and I wanted to call the front desk, but frankly were scared he might hear us (I could hear Michael showering when I came up from the elevator down the hall earlier in the night) or have a gun. This person continued this behavior for probably close to an hour. The next morning we got up early and informed them that we would not be staying for the rest of our reservation and told them about our night. Since then, they have told us they can't give us a refund, guest services needs to give us one, guest services said it is up to the property manager. They told my husband they would put a check in the mail, and never did. They are now claiming that one of our groomsman was this person who was body slamming our door and another one of them was running around naked in the parking lot. NONE of our groomsmen stayed at Hampton Inn Ottawa/Starved Rock that night and quite frankly none of them have behaved like that in their lives. I am now trying to dispute the charges with our credit card company and I filed a complaint with the BBB. I have spent probably 20 hours trying to get our $440 back and the end of our wedding night was tainted. We will NEVER stay at a Hilton property again and I will never recommend them. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!!!

Following up to this: the manager repeatedly hung up on us on the phone, claimed there was a police report filed and they could back it up (there wasn’t) etc. etc.

We did not stay here in 2023. We stayed in 2021 and I will continue to tell people about our HORRENDOUS experience.

DO NOT...

This hotel I stopped at while driving across country and they refused me service. The front door was cracked as if someone had been kicking it. The lady was as rude as possible and told me my debit card was no good without even touching it. I had plenty of money to pay for my room. I did not have a picture ID. So no picture ID means you should be refused service?? It was not just a major inconvenience for me, it is dangerous to send someone who rolls into a hotel in the middle of the night away. I was passing out and needed to stop driving. I was a major road hazard swerving around looking for a place to sleep. I wound up forcing myself further down the interstate to sleep in my car at a rest stop in the freezing cold. All the hotels in this crappy little redneck area refused me service as I was passing out and unable to drive any further. Holiday Inn Express and the Fairfield Inn. There is no excuse for refusing service to someone who has money to pay for it. I could see turning someone away if they are simply begging for a room with no money. But turning someone away because they do not have a picture ID? That should be illegal in this case. There is no excuse for sending a totally fatigued driver back onto the road. I would never stop at this exit to look for a hotel again. The hotels in Cheyenne had no problem with me and neither did the hotel I went to in...
