Tapatios — Restaurant in Ottawa

I gave this spot a third try and it was a charm. The food is great! Perfect queso dip, tacos, enchilada and a solid taco salad. I got the Texas Margarita and it was tasty and boozy! The service was prompt and friendly. I am always looking for great ambiance when I go out for a meal, especially going out for dinner. I like having some Mexican music while I'm out eating Mexican food, but perhaps they did have some, but I wasn't paying attention. That could be a good thing, because too loud of music is distracting too! The lighting is too bright at night to create that "doing out to eat" vibe for me. I felt like I was out to lunch at Chipotle. I think it's an easy fix to perhaps dim the lights, have some ambient lighting and maybe even a candle at the table! But that's just me! Overall, great...

I was expecting some authentic tacos when eating here. Had seemed like the right atmosphere for the food I was looking for. Since moving out this way, I have yet to find any good Mexican good. I should have ordered from another place as the food was VERY expensive for what was given. 4$ per taco, you'd think it would be bigger than what I actually got. Guacamole was amazing and the highlight of the meal. Not very seasoned steak and bland. Used cheaper sirloin it seemed and not very desirable. Nice decor, warm and friendly staff. My husband had lunch steak fajitas and he really enjoyed it, perfect portion with excellent flavor. I had the specialty chimichanga with grilled chicken and chorizo and it was the best chimichanga I’ve had in a long time! Both the steak and the chicken were perfectly seasoned and fresh. The rice and beans and the salsa were really good. Too often Mexican food is too salty or too spicy for those of us with health issues. Finding flavor without those issues makes for a great dining experience! We both said we will come back...
