Fondita Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Ottawa

We decided to give this place a second chance. Unfortunately they failed twice. What were we thinking? 😖 This place is trash!!! I have never had a worse lunch experience. The place was empty except for 2 other tables. Our Guac was terrible... (both we tried both the regular & Mexican... apparently that’s a thing). Our plates all came out at different times 2 of which came out incorrectly and we informed them. They were just plain nachos (one for my son). My husband ordered fish tacos. 30 minutes after we had placed the order & followed by 2 plates being brought to our table, my husband was told they no longer had fish and if he would like shrimp tacos? My husband agreed, he was just hungry. It did however bother him that our youngest had yet to receive her order of Mac & cheese, so he mentioned it to the cook. We now had 3 plates on the table.. 2 orders of steak nachos, & chile poblano. The beans on all the plates are refried canned beans, they add salt to alter the flavor. So gross. The Chile plate was terrible I tried it and left the entire plate. The nachos were also gross because the beans are piled on, and as discussed they are gross. My husband got his shrimp tacos and just ate them in silence. Highly disappointed... an hour later our youngest finally got her plate. Mac & cheese less can a cup of it and the amount of time this took was ridiculous. She ate a few spoons and said it was nasty. I refused to try i, my stomach was already upset from the little I tried. Worse $80 ever spent. Worse experience ever. Worse fake Mexican food. Do not try this. Good food. Hard benches. No where to change a baby in the woman's restroom.

Let me say the food was not what I am used to. We tried the molkejete which was very large. It has a lot of steak. It also had chicken and shrimp. The molcajete was good. The red sauce was a little spicy. For those not used to spice, it may be too spicy. Beans, shredded lettuce, pico and guacamole that was turning brown EWW!

I also ordered a chile relleno. I guess if I wanted the chile relleno I am familiar with I needed to order chile pablanos. Per the menu a chile pablano is stuffed with shredded cheese, egg battered and topped with red and green suace. What I received was a chile unbattered stuffed with chorizo, red sauce, sprinkled with melted chesse and COLD!! Plus I am not a huge fan of chorizo.

We also ordered a tostado, cheese enchiliada and a chicken enchilada.

We ordered a long island iced tea which was reasonably priced 6.99 for 18 oz but really tasted nothing like iced tea too much lime. The other two diners ordered Micheladas with 32 oz Corona's Cahuamas. For those of us that are not familiar, a Michelada is mexicaan beer, clamato, hot sauce worcestershire sauce, maggi sauce, in a glass rimmed with tajin seasoning. Both were upset that the glass the michelada was served was possibly 32 oz full. Normally if there is beer leftover from making the michelada the diner gets what is remainder. Neither received the remainder of the Corona Cahumas. A large michelada is 11.00 definitely pricey. One of the diners in my party has experinced this same thing...

One of the worst experiences I had at a restaurant. Came to this Mexican restaurant with my sister and 2 nieces. Being hispanic we were more than obviously being discriminated. Our food ( fries and 2 burritos) took like 30 min to come out and while another non hispanic family came they received better service. They ordered and got their food less than 10 min and it was a hot plate dish with other items. Other things like getting lemon in their water without asking when I also asked for a cup of water and it had no lemon in it. This happened twice! I had to ask for lemon. I’m not usually one to review a restaurant but this one had careless workers and they all had bad vibes. All on their phone and not picking up plates. Might be because they’re all male workers TBFH! Chips were in a big white bin on the ground. Your receipt is not an itemized receipt so you don’t even know what’s being charged for. Nasty food with a long menu thats when you know it’s not fresh and definitely not following the FIFO guidelines. Go to Culver’s around the corner instead… Better service and quality...
