Found myself in a position which necessitated me having to stay in the South Houston area for a couple fo nights. I am a $100-$150/night kind of person. Checked other Marriotts to find that the going weekend rate was $260+ as a weekend rate. After further research, I found The Residence Inn by Marriott Houston Pasadena. I secured the room rate at $151.00 as a last minute notice on a Saturday. I had high expectations as I have stayed at the Marriott many times (Bonvoy member). I entered into the reception area where I met the person who booked my room. Elizabeth was polite and welcoming. I liked that she was not over the top nice and it was clear she was welcoming. She checked me in and I was on my way to the room. When I entered the room I was surprised to find that this was not just a room it was like a luxury apartment with all the stuff you would buy for your own apartment without a budget. The space, square footage, was like most hotel rooms but masterfully designed. A fully functioning kitchen with a full compliment of eating gear (plates, cups, can openers, silver ware, towels, paper towels, cutting board, full sized fridge, et. al.). Because I don't usually have such items I find a way to do without. But, I purchased takeout with the knowledge that I had the support back at the room. The kitchen advanced into the living area with a "L" shaped sofa (not 5 star but nice) and a work desk with many outlets and a lamp to work by. And a window (one of two) to look out as a break from working in the event one finds it necessary to work long enough to need a diversion. To the right of the desk is another piece of furniture in which a 27+/- television sits a top. I found that a number of channels were available and was able to make use of my Netflix account while there. Taking two more steps I found a very comfortable queen sized bed. No complaints there. And 90 degrees off the bed was a 6 foot area which transitioned into the bathroom. This area had a vanity like surface with shelves for stuff like clothes and a closet for hanging clothes. A nice place to get ready while a significant other is in the shower. Passing this space leads to the bathroom with two switches each for lights and one for additional lighting and an exhaust fan for the steam produced by the hot shower of course. The bathroom was really 4-5 star. The shower was a first for me. Very large, having the side not enclosed by tile as glass 3/4 down the length and no door. I would estimate, given my feet are 11', the shower as 8X3.5. The handles and shelves in the shower were smaller and that which is more than necessary for soap and the usual stuff one may need for a nice shower. This is a one sink bathroom with plenty of space to accommodate the stuff two people may bring along for hygiene. BTW, large square tile in the bathroom area and the kitchen. Carpet in the bedroom and living area. Night stand on both sides of the bed. Alarm and a phone. Nice lighting at the bedside both spot for reading and a flood, one set up for each side of the bed. The bed clothes were 5 star. Towels and washcloths new and thirsty. This place was easily the best place I have stayed in at any price. But one must know that I am not the most prolific of travelers. However, I have stayed in places all over the US, Asia, Brazil, Venesuela, Belize, and Mexico. I hope this helps....
Read moreThis is one of the nicest extended stay hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The staff is nice, if they are right there at the front desk they will be right there instead of waiting for 20 minutes like at other hotels. The rooms are nice and spacious. They have a full refrigerator, a small cook too, dishes, plates, cups, a microwave, sink and bar space. There is one -two TVs depending on the room you get. There’s a desk and you can control the ac unit without it being preprogrammed like most hotels.
The gym is always clean, the pool is nice and the outdoor patio/grill is awesome too. They have a wash room and other amenities as well. The things I believe that can be improved on is; the beds are old. They’re springy and not comfortable. The pull out couches are even worse. They look to be from the early 90s and haven’t been changed out. We stayed at one hotel that had memory foam pull out mattresses and it was like sleeping on a cloud and you couldn’t feel the bar and there were no springs!
While they do have Netflix you can sign into you can not bring your Amazon fire stick to plug in. The only hdmi that works is the one the cable is plugged into. While the fire stick comes on the tv in that port you are blocked from the volume control on the remote and tv. I understand it’s a anti theft issue but other hotels let us use this function.
They need better air filters. Once you turn on the ac the room is full of dust and animal hair that is constantly flying around. Our kids are allergic to pet dander so we had to start bringing our air purifier to help. The pans suck! Just like all hotels they’re cheap and not nonstick. Cooking on them is difficult so we just bring out cooking skillet from home that plugs in.
The pool definitely needs a daily cleaning as much as it’s being used by hundreds of people especially kids. A lot of times the water has been greenish and just nasty. It’s dirtier more than it’s cleaned.
The gym could use more towels. It’s rare to see any gym towels in there.
Other than that it’s one of our favorite hotels! You definitely feel welcomed while being here. Everyone is so nice and the hotel is overall nice. You’ll definitely want to plan a visit and...
Read moreI've been at this hotel for nearly 5 months now and I'm almost in the clear to go home! I came to add my review because the staff at this hotel has gone above and beyond for us and everyone else who stays here. I saw a couple negative reviews and one in particular stands out because I witnessed it first hand. The one from oldguysrule is a blatant lie. It was 7 pm and he had 4 Togo boxes, piling everything he could into them. I was one of the people in line behind him when the staff asked him if he could maybe leave a little for the peoole waiting in line. He had no issues and made a joke about how he always works late and this was a nice surprise to come back to since he hated cooking. The staff laughed it off and went about her business like she usually does. Around 730 the same man came back down and was yelling at the front desk gentleman because he "thought about it and it was rude for her to speak to him that way". She walked up and the guest yelled at her that it wasn't his intention to use all 4 Togo boxes and that it was rude how she spoke to him. She told him maybe he misunderstood how she spoke the same way she misunderstood him using 4 Togo boxes. He just couldnt fathom her being human and misunderstanding him grabbing 4 large togo boxes when his intention was to use one! Even though he used them all. He ranted and raved about how he's a platinum remember and how he's never been treated in such a way and stood there berating the poor girl for a good 10 minutes. He went on to say that if it was just samples it should be mentioned somewhere that it's JUST samples. The manager pointed out the large, colorful sign stating that it was samples. So he yelled some more before finally sulking off to his quarters. I have been here for months and I have never seen any of the staff here be unkind in anyway to any guest coming through those doors. Someone is always at the desk, if they have to step away they are quick to come back and they always go out of their way for the guests here. It's an amazing place to stay. There's so much around the hotel and if you're new to the area the staff can always point you in a direction! You won't regret your visit...
