Wow. This stay was truly a nightmare. We are officially done with the Hilton brand. Keywords: emergency room, roach infestation, 3 rooms in 3 days, unsafe, and lackluster paid breakfast.
We arrived in Atlanta on a Wednesday for a Thursday graduation and vacation. Our stay was from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday morning. We purchased the package that included breakfast. We stayed at this location as it was close to the ceremonies we were attending. I am also a long time Hilton Honor's member. Upon arrival, we checked in (room 206), grabbed some food and came back for a nap. We woke up from our nap to a large flying roach (photos in part 2 below) on a hotel towel on our desk. They were not.
We re-packed all of our items and went to the front desk to tell our experience. Megan was very nice and did what she could. Our room was changed to one on an “executive level”. We were given access to the Executive Lounge, a free domestic beer drink ticket, and a free appetizer ticket from the restaurant. We were told to wait in the Executive Lounge until our room was ready. The Executive Lounge was okay, but definitely not what you would expect. It was basically free water and sodas. The beer cooler was empty. Another group in the lounge called to see if it would be restocked as they were having a meeting. Staff said that it would not as it was too late in the evening. The counters were really dirty and it seemed like it was not a place that staff really cared to keep clean. There were also what looked like a ton of coffee grounds around the trash can and in almost all of the drawers in the lounge (photos in part 2 below). We researched this again and learned that roach feces look just like coffee grounds and that is how you can tell there is an infestation. We returned a few times during our stay to see if there were actually any perks to the lounge and it was still dirty and the beer cooler remained empty. The television also didn’t work. If you plan to pay extra for this amenity, don’t.
We finally got to our new room (929), which happened to be an adjoining room. We had our reservations about this but we were so exhausted from travelling that we tried not to worry about it. We had breakfast the next day (Thursday). It was certainly lacking to say the least. It was cold and not what you would expect from the Hilton brand. You could liken this breakfast to one at a hotel that includes complimentary breakfast for all of its’ guests, but worse. I received a text from a manager asking how the stay was going so far and I expressed how disappointed we were and why. We were given 50% off of the first night (1st roach) of our stay.
We attempted to shower that morning, but the water would not get hot and remain hot. We didn’t have time to call the front desk at that time. We left for a ceremony that morning and returned after lunch. We requested to have an engineer to fix the shower. He said that we need to let the shower run for about 10 minutes before the water would get hot and stay hot. We left again for a graduation and returned after dinner for bed. My spouse woke up around 1:30am to the guests in the adjoining room trying to open the connecting door. She wanted to let me get my rest and did not wake me. She went back to bed and we woke up around 2:40am (Friday) to our room filled with cigarette smoke. There was no telling how long they had smoking or how long we had been breathing it in. My wife and I both have asthma and I am pregnant. I tried to get through it because we were so tired but after about 5 minutes, it hadn’t gotten better and I couldn’t stop coughing. Again, for the second time, we went to the front desk and...

Staff at the front desk said that they would change our room and have security talk to the adjoining room. We were moved to another room on the opposite side of the same floor (906). At this point, however, I could not catch my breath and stop coughing. After 2 years of not having to take my inhaler, I had to take it for the first time here. It did not help. We left for the Emergency Room around 4am. I received a breathing treatment. I wanted to avoid having to get one because of the pregnancy, but it was necessary.
We returned to our hotel at around 6am. I talked to the front desk staff and told him that we ended up in the emergency room and told him that he may share that with the guests that stayed in that room in hopes that they would understand how some people truly rely on non-smoking declarations for their survival. He said that he was sorry to hear that I had to go to the emergency room but that when they called the other guests they did not answer.
We attempted to eat breakfast which we were told started at 6, but they actually don’t start until 6:30. We got off on our floor and the entire floor smelled of smoke. We returned to our room and read on the room service menu that room service starts at 6am. We called and they actually do not start until 6:30 as well. We ordered room service right at 6:30 and it left a lot to be desired, but it was something. We also found some type of pill on the floor in this room (photo below). That entire day, my chest felt extremely heavy and breathing still wasn’t nearly as easy as normal. We tried to spend our final vacation day relaxing as the rest of the stay had been difficult. We were able to relax some, but not much. We kept all of our luggage zipped and were nervous for the next terrible experience. The shower in this room also took about 6 minutes to warm the water.
We tried the pool and decided to take advantage of the tables with umbrellas and let one up to shield us from the sun. We placed a pin in the top of the umbrella and got into the pool. There was another guest sitting in a pool chair about 10-15 ft. from the table. The wind started to blow and blew the unsecured umbrella completely out of the umbrella base and blew the table over. The umbrella nearly missed hitting the other guest in the head. We all thought for safety reasons, the umbrella pole was screwed into the base so it wouldn’t fly out, but it was not. We thought we could make it through the day with just breathing and hot water issues, but we did not.
We woke up early the day of our departure (Saturday) to another roach (photo below) on another towel in our new room (906). At this point, we didn’t feel that staff cared enough about our experience to even bother telling them. We never asked about our stay again. I wish that I could say that we experienced a nice and relaxing vacation but this hotel really destroyed that for us. I am sorely disappointed in our experience. 3 rooms in 3 days is exceptionally terrible for a top hotel brand. We really hoped this would be a great getaway at a premier hotel before the baby comes, but...
Read moreThis was probably the worst Hilton I stayed at. The day staff and house keeping staff was really nice, but the night staff was rude and unprofessional.
There were minor upgrades in the room we were in, but none of them worked. A 3 setting bathroom light, and a USB night stand outlet. Not a big deal, but it's just annoying. Also our curtains were ripped. And the shower never fully turned off. Also would turn freezing if the room next to me showered at the same time.
There were multiple sold-out events booked around the weekend of October of 25-27, and the hotel had overbooked instead of checking to make sure rooms were available. The event I attended was the Climax of Night, with hundreds of people attending. Also, because there were so many people, the elevators were breaking down. The staff didn't offer any explanations to the crowds, so we were all left confused as to how to get to our rooms. When some people asked if we could use the stairs, one lady with short hair said "theyre locked," and disappeared into a staff roomalternatives like stairs. I asked the lady at the front desk with reddish orange curls Saturday night about accessing the stairs, and she just said, "The gym is locked, and the elevators are broken." I told her I didn't need the gym, just the stairs, and she said "yeah I heard you and told you they're locked." Then she walked away. She came back later and stared at me while I waited on the one working elevator and said "didn't you need the stairs? You need to come on then." And rolled her eyes as some of us followed her. Later they got a security guard to man the door to the gym/stairs.
Later that night I i explained what happened to one of our Tournament Organizers. She went to talk to the same lady with the curls at the desk. The lady completely changed her story and said the elevators were slow and told her that she had told me she was getting someone to keep the stairs unlocked. She completely lied in front of me and refused to admit that she said the elevators were broken. Only the left one had been working all Saturday night and multiple guests commented this.
There should've been an announcement or signs stating an alternative to the elevators and the security guard should've been provided with out people getting upset. The stairs being locked in the gym is also a...
