Wish I had stayed ANYwhere but here.
Called ahead to tell hotel we were traveling with ETA at night. At arrival, I left three teenage (girl) passengers in locked car by the entrance, believing check in would be quick. Instead, there was NO one to be found, except another guest. I called out, walked around. No one. The other guest said, "It seems like they would at least have a bell you could ring!" No bell. No note. No sign of anyone. I was uncomfortable with the girls in the car without me and considered my options.. Finally, male clerk showed up. No apologies for the wait.
THEN, I was not given the room I booked - a suite with two queen beds. We got up to the room and found one king bed and a couch. The girls had a huge competition the next day. Two had to sleep on pull-out couch instead of an actual bed I had specifically chosen so they could get the rest they needed for the competition.
I went back downstairs to tell clerk about this mistake, but he did not believe I had booked the right room. First he asked, "What website did you even use to book a room like that? We don't even have rooms with two queen beds." I said, "Every hotel has rooms with two queen beds, and that is what I booked and paid for.." He said, "Well, all I can say is they gave you the room that you booked." He continued to make it obvious he did not believe me and there was nothing he was even going to try to do to correct it. He just kept saying, "I don't book the rooms. I just work my shift and I don't have anything to do with that." NEVER a "Hey, I'm sorry this happened." Not once.
So I went upstairs, logged into my computer, found the reservation that showed EXACTLY what I had been telling him I booked and went back downstairs AGAIN.
This time, even with irrefutable proof, his answer and attitude remained a stone wall of zero concern. He just said, "There's nothing I can do."
At this point, I told him that to ME, the more pressing issue right THEN....was the lack of respect, courtesy, and hospitality to paying customers, and his lack of professionalism in handling the hotel's mistake.
I said, "The ways you refused to believe me, treated me and talked to me are not acceptable to me." He did not apologize, but only argued. I said, "But I'm telling you this is exactly how you made me feel. And it's not okay. You could and should have handled this differently." He smirked at me, saying only "Okay." Zero apology.
When I got back upstairs to the girls, we decided we had to make the best of it, because....what choice did we even have at that time of night??? So my daughter and I slept in the king bed and the two friends slept on the thin mattress of the pull-out couch. No pillows were even supplied for it, so my daughter and gave them pillows from our bed.
THEN...Trying to go to sleep in this room that turned out to be FEET away from the busy interstate....was impossible. My daughter and I both lay awake forever - only to wake again at 4 a.m.to the early morning interstate noise, which might as well have been going THROUGH our room.
So we both got MAYBE close to 4 (not quite) hours of sleep. The next day, these poor, sleep-deprived girls were at the competition site for hours. Afterwards, I had to drive us all home, barely able to keep my eyes open. I had to pull over, walk around, get coffee, at several points because I knew it was too dangerous to continue.
And I PAID for all of this.
Ridiculous.
Also? One of the TEENAGERS noticed.that the elevator inspection was expired.
This was the MOST disappointing experience at ANY hotel I've ever had. I had just joined Hilton Honors. I will be cancelling that, with no intention of trying another.
The whole experience said to me that, once this hotel had my money....our comfort, satisfaction and safety were of zero concern.
I'm guessing that every time I see the Hilton brand from now on, THAT is the experience that will come to my mind.
Stay ANYwhere but this Hilton Garden Inn...
Read moreWe stayed here a little over a month ago on our way home from a road trip. At this point in our trip we were just tired, hungry and in need of an adult beverage. This is a great location for Pearl, MS. It's just outside of Jackson, MS but still has great choices in restaurants, shopping and the Baseball Stadium without driving very far at all.
The parking lot was clean. There was plenty of spacious parking. Our suite was small, but adequate for our needs. It included a couch, desk, coffee table, chair, tv, microwave, small fridge and Keurig coffee maker. Our rooms and bathroom were very clean. Plenty of towels and washcloths were available in our room.
Once checked in we had dinner down the street, come back and enjoyed a nice cocktail in the lobby area. The lobby/lounge area is all tied in together, but it works. There is plenty of seating including a bar, tables, sofa, love seat and comfy chairs.
We didn't know when we checked in that it was Jackson State University's Homecoming. When we found out we assumed it would be loud all night. It was not. The lounge area on the first floor was pretty busy and packed around 11 pm but you couldn't hear noise from the area even just inside the elevator.
Our room was on the side of the hotel near the Interstate. No view. Yes, you could hear traffic. No, it wasn't unbearable or disturbing. We kept the drapes closed and that was all that was needed. If I stayed here again I may ask for a room on the other side of the hotel, but it wasn't a deal breaker. It didn't disturb us in any way. In fact, I slept better here than I did at much nicer and more expensive hotels.
The Staff was great. Every person working greeted us with a smile and asked how we were doing or if we needed anything or how we were enjoying our stay. I ended up in the elevator the next morning with a Maintenance employee and even he was polite and cordial VERY early in the morning.
This location does have a shuttle service for getting you to and from the airport. I'm sure they shuttle to and from the Stadium as well as other places, but I didn't ask.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you are in town for a Baseball game, business in the area or a simple overnight stop. I would certainly...
Read moreI travelled to the Jackson/Pearl area to meet with my adopted daughter (visiting her birth family). I've stayed at Hilton branded hotels many times for business and leisure travel for the consistently high quality and standards. Sadly, my recent stay at this hotel did not meet those expectations based on past experience.
Problem #1 - LOUD The even numbered rooms on the back side of the hotel, face Interstate 20 and a major exit leading into Jackson/Pearl. I thought it odd when I checked in late on a Wednesday evening that there were two packages of earplugs on the pillows and that the HVAC fan in the room was set to high. I understood why at about 5am the next morning when I woke feeling I'd camped in the infield at the Talladega Motor Speedway (tm). As I lay in bed, the noise from the freeway registered 72 db consistently on a phone app. 75+ db will begin to cause hearing damage. The room had little insulation from the outside noise.
I mentioned the noise issues to the (morning) manager and said that is why they included earplugs. They offered to move me to a room with a smaller bed on a middle floor, but due to injuries last year, I toss and turn. Smaller isn't safer in my case.
Problem #2 - Dim Lighting Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but as an Hilton Honors member, I'm familiar with the company standards and requirements. The living area of the suite had limited lighting and felt like a cave. The bedroom area was mildly better until I turned on all the lights and noticed problem # 3...
Problem #3 - Black Mold of the HVAC vents If you live in the southeast, this nasty crud can make eyes water and allergies go into overdrive. I never, ever, expected to see it in a Hilton branded hotel of any sort and especially not on the 4th floor my room was located at. Photos included. When I showed this to the morning manager the day I checked out, they visibly blanched.
Until this hotel has a sound barrier, improved lighting and cleaning, I can't recommend staying here. The reason the hotel received 2 stars versus 1 was the positve impression left by the night desk and the cook at the breakfast bar. Both were competent, friendly...
