I wanted to love this place. I was so excited after I booked it, but unfortunately it was not a great stay. I also want to say that all of the employees were very nice and tried to be helpful.
I think a lot of the problems lie in the concept. Is it a hotel or is it a bar/venue? We came prepared with a stock of ear plugs and a white noise machine. It didn’t do much good. I expected to be kept up a little later than usual, but I didn’t expect to be woken up early the next morning by loud, thumpy music pumping through the speakers in the courtyard bar/venue music. If you’re loud at night, it would be nice to have it be a little quieter in the morning. In addition, they didn’t seem to soundproof during the renovation. The people above us sounded like a herd of elephants between 3-5 am every night we were there. I’m not sure what they were doing up there, but it was certainly loud. Request a top floor if you decide to brave a stay.
Now for something good: The location is spectacular. We were there to see a show at the Van Buren and it was a quick walk to the venue. There were also a ton of great restaurants and bars in walking distance and downtown is very close.
ANNND… back to a few more gripes:
It was kind of gross. It wasn’t filthy gross, but it didn’t look as if it had been recently remodeled. There was dust everywhere, bits of plastic and paper trash on the floor, and the shower head was in dire need of de-calcification.
Why do I have to unscrew the lightbulbs to turn the lights out? Seriously? No switch…
If I pay between $250-270 a night for a hotel, I should not have to pay $4 for a cup of coffee in the morning. It’s fine if the restaurant (the only source of coffee in the hotel) doesn’t want to give the hotel guests free coffee, but the hotel should provide coffee for their guests. I mean: you’ve kept me up late, woken me up early, AND you’re charging me $4 to get a cup of coffee (that I have to get dressed to fetch)?!?!?!?!? There should be a law against this sort of thing.
While I’m on the subject: Paying the aforementioned price for a hotel should also guarantee that I don’t have to wipe my butt with 80 grit sandpaper. Some decent toilet paper would go a long way.
Fellow Travelers: If you think you might want a nightcap, be prepared and put something in the fridge in your room. The bar doesn’t keep to its posted hours and the bartenders I had couldn’t always make a decent cocktail. If you’re a beer and a shot type, you’ll probably be fine. If the bar is closed you can always treat yourself to a $15 can of barely drinkable wine from the restaurant… or a $4 cup of coffee.
But hey, did I mention...
Read moreThe way the room is booked is so confusing... there was a group of us renting out rooms and going to get ready there and head out to the halloween party at the Walter warehouse. My friend had booked the room and we were going to room together. I paid her for my half. Then she gave me the confirmation number to show the front desk... She ended up not being able to come . So I showed up to check in and be escorted to the room and was going to have another friend be my roommate that night. I followed the sign to check in. And it was just this little sliding window connected to the restaurant I waited a bit, and I finally went in the restaurant and asked the hostess where i go to check in... He said he would get ahold of the person that was supposed to be up there... then it seemed like he had to go track him down at the bar.... I was a bit frustrated just waiting there a bit. Then I tried to check in and the man said that my friend that booked the room had to pay on her end.. I was confused. I thought they would have already charged her.. and they also had a credit card on file but couldn't run it ... and she couldn't call them and pay over the phone... Me and my friend were frustrated. And I'm a single mom and don't have a credit card and didn't have 200 and something dollars to pay on my debit card . So the man up front told her that she could cancel her other reservation and make a new one and pay for it. Apparently you have to go through a third party website to book the room. How would we have known that! We had never been there! So then I was waiting around not able to get ready yet... and get in my room. Then my other friend that was going to end up rooming with me ended up getting there. He brought a bag of snacks and drinks we could have in the room once we get a room... He had his cocktail shaker on the table to just set it there but we weren't having drinks outside by the bar.
I go find the man and finally get the room and he was glaring at me and my friend saying that we can't bring our own drinks and drink them by the bar. We weren't drinking anything! Especially since we hadn't been able to get a room yet to set stuff in yet. I still had my stuff in my car waiting to bring to a room! So I was getting pretty annoyed and grumpy at this point. I had been patient waiting that whole time While trying to figure out this whole room situation.... I honestly don't know if I would ever stsy here again after the whole room booking system and lack of...
Read morethe inside of the room is very aesthetically pleasing but that’s about it.The owner spent a lot of money on how it looks vs on what a comfortable stay will be and should probably stick to the bar scene instead of hospitality. The bed was very firm, the smart TV had to where I would have to sign in my own information which I couldn’t since my devices were capped. The shower had a see thru window which you could see from the bed. I stayed with my daughter and had to shower angled away from the window for privacy and also brought in so much light in the early morning. I saw one guest post about not being able to sleep at night cause of the noise and not being able to sleep in and he was 100% right. The shower also doesn’t have a shower door so all the water was around the restroom floor and unlike most hotels this one doesn’t provide a shower mat. The restroom also had a plumbing/sewer smell. What I mean as well by spending too much on the looks is they had expensive stuff like a speaker which I would’ve thought a coffee maker would have been better and an old style microwave that was hard to figure out with no manual. They have coffee at their restaurant which is expensive for one but they also only had butter milk for your coffee so I passed on that. The hotel also is not family friendly which I feel should be advertised. When we got there on Saturday I wanted to take advantage of the main area but I couldn’t because 1. It is a bar and 2. Reaked like weed. The pool is also not an actual pool it’s just a lounging area. It is extremely overpriced I paid close to $500 for 3 days for probably my worst hotel/motel stay. On top of that the hotel guests have to pay for PARKING $15 per night which is insane so add another $45 to the $500!! I felt as though I was being charged for the owners over spending. It’s a cool bar but not hotel on top of their restaurant having odd hours which I couldn’t figure out so I never...
