Where to begin with my experience at Chilte? Everything was better than I expected, particularly for a restaurant that’s only been open for a couple of weeks! The entire staff was so friendly, professional, and fast that it felt as if they had been operating in this space for years. Our party of four was seated quickly despite not booking a reservation - the hostess was accommodating and very kind. I loved our table! Close the the bar, comfortable seats, great lighting! The art and vibe in there is fun but not obnoxious. Loved the music and overall atmosphere. This is not your standard Mexican fare, this food truly is art on a plate. The flavors are unique and delicious, yet not at all stuffy or pretentious. You know you’re tasting a dish learned from a culture and special people, not some chef with gimmicky ideas. You can also tell there was a lot of thought and intention behind every detail - from the dinnerware to the recipes themselves. We started with the Santa Quesadilla, which is unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. The hoja santa leaf wrapped around the tortilla added an earthy flavor, and was well complimented by the salsa, goat cheese, and chiltepin. The thicc fries and aioli were great for sharing, and each of us either ordered the tacos or the chef’s sangwich. You can tell right off the bat that the tortillas are made in house - unlike other restaurants in the area. They’re fresh and seasoned perfectly to bring out the flavor of the maiz. All of the meat and taco toppings are so bright and flavorful, and the textures are perfection. I cannot pick a favorite so just get one of each. I’m not sure what the sauce was on the chorizo burger (chefs sandwich) but I was about to lick it off the plate. Lastly, we finished with the pan de elote cheesecake. It’s a perfect not-too-sweet dessert, and big enough to share between 2-3 people. The flavor of the actual cake is light, and I loved the texture of the corn. The mezcal and berry compote added the perfect balance of sweet and acidity, and whoever whipped that cream actually did it right. Our waiter was really excellent at describing each dish, and very knowledgeable about all of the beverages and cocktail options. It’s clear that Chilte has worked hard to train their staff and create a comfortable environment for them and guests. I cannot wait to come back to Chilte and try more of their dishes - it is easily a restaurant where I will bring friends and family when they ask where we should go out to...
Read moreFood was delicious!
We started with a few appetizers: Green chorizo vampiro and the cucumber dish.
The Tortilla on the Vampiro was authentic and tasted so good on its own! The green chorizo and cheese were mouth watering! Perfect amount of spice!
The cucumber dish was surprisingly delicious, fresh cucumbers with a little kick in the dressing. A nice healthy start to an amazing meal.
We did also try the Aqua chili with like skirt steak - I was not a fan of this dish as the meat tasted a little raw and chewy. However, my husband who is a big seafood lover, enjoyed this dish.
For our main course we got: Tocos de Birria and Mole de la casa (Flautas). The birria was juicy and had a hint of cinnamon. Dipping the toco into the consommé is a must! Perfection!
The Mole flautas were our least favorite dish of the night but were still good! The mole was just a little too sweet for our liking.
We were told the menu changes regularly, so we are looking forward to checking out new options!
Drink options- if you are a non-alcohol drinking individual the drink options were very limited! They did offer to craft a Non alcoholic cocktail but you pay cocktail pricing for that. This was a little disappointing.
The restaurant was also freezing cold! We were covered in goosebumps and were literally shaking. Ordered a latte to stay warm! The waitress was amazing and did offer my daughter a little shawl to cover up with.
Service was great! Food came out pretty quick & staff checked in regularly. Before ordering they checked to see if anyone had any food allergies: this is always a win for me as my daughter does have a peanut/nut allergy! Getting this out before we order is always helpful so we know if we need to stay clear of specific dishes.
