It's very rare for me to rate a motel less than 3 stars, but this place is an unfortunate exception. I'll start out with the good and go from there. The rooms are a decent size with a flat screen TV, a fridge, a microwave, and a comfortable bed. There's a full tub with a jacuzzi, which I have yet to try out, but probably will later. There's also an outdoor pool. Lastly, there's plenty of stores and restaurants within walking distance, including a Walmart.
Now on to the bad things. When first checking in, I noticed there's no free continental breakfast like most America's Bests have, just a coffee pot. When my husband and I got to our room, we had a hard time opening the door because it stuck so bad. We literally had to push it open with all our body weight, and he's a bigger guy. I heard at least one other door with the same problem. The room smelled like weed wheb we walked in as well. Granted, its a smoking room, but not all cigarette smokers enjoy the smell of weed. There's also no guest laundry here, but there's a laundromat a few blocks away that you can take a bus to if you don't have a vehicle like us (we were put up here by my husband's trucking company since his truck is in the shop). There's no kind of dresser here for if you're staying for more than a couple days and don't want to live out of your suitcase. The coffee maker they have in the rooms is a single serve maker, but it's not a K Cup machine and they only give you one bag of coffee for one cup. Lastly, there's only 3 sets of outlets in the whole room, excluding the one for the TV and fridge, one of which didn't even work. Oh, and theres no phones in the rooms?! I'm sure cheapish rooms are hard to come by so close to LA, but I definitely wouldn't pay almost 90 dollars out of pocket for this room, it's...
Read moreReasons to stay at this motel include: its budget pricing, its convenience to freeways, a major road and walkable places to eat. Over the years I've stayed here 1-2 times a year as I grew up here and have family within easy driving distance. However, in the past 20 years or so I've seen the property go from a good value to "only if desperate". On my last visit on January 2nd, I appreciated the large flat screen tv with remote, but saw that there was a sconce and shade on the wall behind it--useless for lighting. The "closet" was a wardrobe bar in the dressing area without many hangers. Most odd was an apparent recent effort to redecorate; namely, the wall covering was some kind of cloth visibly stapled to the wall with gaps in the seams. Very slapdash and unattractive.||But my loyalty went out the window when I stipulated in advance that I'd need a first floor room due to mobility issues. Upon arrival, the management told me that there were no more first floor rooms, which meant that this senior citizen would have to go up a long flight of outdoor stairs! Surely they could have called my phone and told me ahead of time instead of putting me in a "take it or leave it" situation. I view this as a major gaffe in customer service and will take this property off of my...
