My daughter recommended me this place and said it was really good so I decided to go for it and try it with her. She went last year with her dad and everything was great for them. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case when I went with her. We had made a reservation for 7pm and when we got there we got sat right away which was the only good part of this experience. I’m only giving one star because I can only give one star and that star goes to the poor young hostess girl who had to apologize for the manager and wait staff. She needs a raise!! :( Anyways, we were waiting for someone to acknowledge us for over 20 minutes. Nothing. Not even a look was made by any of the wait staff. There was a couple right beside us who had been there prior to us even arriving, and they only had their drinks. Come to find out that they had been waiting for their waiter to come and take their orders for food but he never did so they decided to pay for their drinks and leave. As they were leaving, the man was trying to insert his card into the credit card machine slot, this waiter (who was obviously either drunk or high) said in a very rude tone to this man, “you put the card in this way”. Overall, this waiter had an awful attitude and didn’t seem professional at all. Absolute nightmare. After witnessing this, my daughter and I decided to leave because we didn’t feel like waiting a century for a simple acknowledgement. Basically, this incident had ticked me and my daughter off so bad that we didn’t even want to go out to dinner anymore. We had our night turned upside down due to lack of staffing and rude employees. I’m sure this has a lot to do with the pandemic because I’ve seen this happening everywhere not just here, but it’s such a shame because I was looking forward to dining here and having some Caribbean food. Hopefully places can start hiring people who actually care about their work and enjoy what they do. Really sucks what our world is coming to. The world is ending soon be warned! We need a change this is outrageous. So disappointing the fact we ended up bringing home Five Guys to our hotel room. People do the world a favor and WORK!! We really can’t keep going like this in life. Prepare for another Great Depression!! We need...
Read moreOk, so we have never been here because we're big Cabby Shack fans, so when we are in the area, we're usually there (travel for a living, so only here for 6 weeks per year). However, one day I wanted something different, so I tried this place. Went back right away with my BF. I really like this place.
Sat at the bar both times. The bartender is cool. Really like that guy.
We got the Crab Bisque. It has great flavor. Very lobster bisque, sub the shellfish. The BF doesn't like lobster (I know, what a freak), but he wanted to try the bisque since it was crab, not lobster. The taste was good, but I wish there was more crab. No crab flavor, no lump crab, but good bisque flavor.
We also ordered the Grilled Oyster special. Those things were AWESOME! Little lemon and their house made hot sauce (I like the tall skinny bottle best), and we're golden!
The banana wings were cooked well, but just something in the spicing I didn't like. I'm not a fan of Allspice, so it may have been that. Not bad, just not my jam.
We also got the crab cakes. These arrive and they look small, compared to other crab cakes around, but I have to say they are fat and FULL of crab. ZERO filler here. The crunch on the outside is perfect and their sauces are awesome! Again, homemade hot sauces on these!
Finally, we had the Mofongo. This. This is why we came, and we didn't even know it. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and huge and the sauce was great, but this dish is allll about the plantain hash! Holy hanna! That was EPIC! I would have eaten a whole other plate of just that. Get this dish. Period.
I've seen other reviews that they've had issues with the service and some with the food. I've been here twice and everyone has been friendly, and the food has been on point....
Read moreIn the midst of a ginormous life, there lay a destination that begged for me to reawaken my senses. As soon as I saw the word "Caribbean" on the sign, I knew it was high time to find delight in the brilliance of a world I had yet to touch. Once I saw the acrylic mural on the wall, showing the archetypal Caribbean landscape flourishing on the cusp of midday and dusk, I knew the place had found a convincing identity. In understanding this, I didn't want to skimp on cultural favorites. I stuck with apps, figuring it might be the bee's knees without getting too elaborate. The peanut starter, first off, knew it was aiming for more than elephants. Its gentle brush of spice stood mighty on a cliff, perfectly conveying the restaurant's tropical atmosphere. Each bite made a familiar flavor melt in my mouth like I hadn't experienced anywhere else. The jibarito, a sandwich served between two enormous fried plantain slices, was also worth the wait. Having the Atlantic Ocean sit outside your window is one thing, it's better to see it while you experience the crunch of the plantain and a variety of umami flavors dancing across your tongue. It wasn't ashamed to flash its ballgown crystals, and I respected this dish for it. While the wait for our main dishes took longer than we preferred, the day worked out and the artists showed us their best work. Thank you, crew, for transforming my day into a...
