Arrived at 530; room wasn't ready, asked to come back in 20. A guest came to the front desk and asked if the water in the hot tub is supposed to be brown and cloudy; at which point the staff checked the water and mentioned to the other staff they were gonna have to shut down the hot tub because the maintenance guy had already gone home for the day. Got some food, came back and continued to wait for our room in the lobby while we ate. The room itself was large and clean. Took the kids to the pool & hot tub anyways because they didnt close it. HUGE mistake. Yes, the water was disgusting on both sides, but the kids were determined so we tried it anyways. I was shivering in the hot tub it was soo cold; and the kids really didn't spend much time in the pool because it was freezing as well - kids will play in the cold ass river for hours, yet could barely swim here - take the hint.. the water left a stench on my skin that I couldn't wait to scrub off. Think your gonna use that shower provided in the pool area?! HA! If you like freezing showers to go with your cold ass hot tub and freezing pool, this is the perfect spot for you. Thankfully the shower in the room is hot AF and the towels are fresh, cuz the 3 of us were SCRUBBING!!! Wouldn't recommend if you plan to use the pool. Now onto the terrifying elevator... gets to the 4th floor and drops hella hard and abrupt before the doors open and you can get off.. swore I was gonna die every dang time we used it.. It's not something you get used to thru your stay - and no elevator maintenance card posted, it had been completely ripped off the wall.. the door cards dont work. Expect about one swipe per card before you gotta take it back to the front desk to be reactivated.. but at least it was quiet for the most part. Will definitely find another spot to stay if we're in Portland again, this place wasn't worth the buck, that's...
Read moreBefore I begin, let me preface this by saying that I have stayed several nights with your LaQuinta hotel chain and have generally liked my visits. This on the other hand, Was not one of them.||I was in a room that was literally outside of the elevator. I did not get more than 1 hour of sleep as I was awakened several times through the night with the bed shaking. At first, I thought that I had just experienced an earthquake (yes, it was that bad). Then I realized that it was either due to the elevator or trucks rolling by on the nearby street. The room was probably the smallest room I have ever stayed in as well. So small in fact, that I did not have space enough to have my suitcase out and opened and not be in the way. The shower curtain half-moon style rod was sagging, and I felt that if I had lowered the curtain, (the end of the curtain was hanging across the tub and draped through the hand hold on the wall) that the rod and curtain would fall to the floor, and they would blame and charge me for breaking the rod or something. I did notice that this had happened before as there was evidence of repair on the walls where the rod is attached. Needless to say, I did not take a shower because of this. I originally had planned for two nights but checked out after one because I needed to be able to get sleep and a shower as I had a lot of work to do the next day and needed a hotel that would allow me to get sleep before my long drive home the next day. The breakfast definitely could use a makeover as well. The eggs were not real eggs and a processed round patty. The bacon was the thinnest and most flavorless that I've ever tasted. The waffles were good though. ||The staff was nice at check in and check out. And I did inform the lady at the checkout counter about the curtain rod and the fact that I did not take a shower...
Read moreAccessible room review - I have no idea why the reviews for this place are good. Their efforts at accessibility seem as half-hearted as their cleaning job. The lobby smells like smoke as soon as you enter. It was one of the dirtiest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. Long dark urine drips down the bathroom wall, splattered drops of something and greasy hand prints all over the headboard, multiple hairs in the bed, stains on the sheets and comforter and yellow pillows. I very much did not want to stay once I saw the state of the room but I had already spent $100 and was too tired to change hotels.
As for accessibility - the bathroom was done fairly well (pics included). There were several grab bars, a heavy but useable shower seat, detachable shower head, bathroom counter that worked for a wheelchair, and several fire alarms with lights scattered around. The room itself seemed to have zero thought put into making it accessible. It’s the smallest accessible room I’ve ever stayed in and difficult to get around. The beds were tall and very hard to transfer into. It was difficult to turn around when backing away from the bed and you’ll most likely run into things trying to do it (I have a pretty small chair). And their choice of carpet throughout the whole hotel is a kind that requires a lot of strength to push on if you don’t have a power assist or someone to help.
The best part of this place was the guy at the front desk, he was very nice. I did not use their shuttle service or amenities. WiFi was decent speed and didn’t continually disconnect you like many hotels. I’m giving it two stars because of these things and at least I didn’t see bugs but I would not have been surprised at all if I had.
I had never stayed at a La Quinta before this and for sure...
