We flew to Portland, ME on July 20th and arrived to Motel 6 at 10:30 p.m., straight from the airport. We had 2 rooms with 2 queen beds each reserved for us and our friends, who were supposed to arrive at midnight. The cost of the rooms was $156 ($170 after tax) and $161 ($175 a/tax). We were greeted by two receptionists who said that all rooms left were on 4th floor. Since we had no idea what it meant we didn’t mind and only mentioned that one of the rooms was supposed to have a mini-fridge. One of the receptionists said that there were no rooms with mini-fridge left, but when we mentioned that we had food, she said that she would bring one into our room. She went upstairs with us, and there we understood what 4th floor meant. The elevator smelled smoke, but it was nothing compared with the smell on the floor. It had thick cigarette odor. We tried to open our room, but couldn’t. The receptionist said that we have to kick it harder, because it gets stuck, and showed us how to do that. Unfortunately only my husband could open it. I didn’t have enough strength (or weight). The room smelled bad, but we couldn’t open a window, because it didn’t have a screen, and we saw dead bugs and flies on the window sill and on the floor. We entered the other room. The cigarette odor was even heavier there, and the room looked dirty. We went downstairs and asked for non-smoking rooms, but the receptionist said that they didn’t have any, that they assign rooms on first come first serve basis, and we should have come earlier. We also mentioned that we booked rooms with 2 queen beds each, but second room had one bed. They said that, for some reason only one room came through their system with 2 beds, and that system would not allow them to re-assign to a different room type. She also added that if we didn’t want these rooms we can cancel our reservation and leave. Since we had no place to stay, we just asked her to change the room to a different one hoping that it may not stink as much. She did. We went upstairs again and decided that second room was not as dirty as first one. We picked up our friends and settled. When I went to the bathroom I discovered that wood-like tiles on the floor were black on edges and were coming off. The bed blankets had cigarette burns and smelled cigarettes. It was hard to breeze and I couldn’t sleep all night. Next day the t-shorts we slept in were saturated with smoke, so we couldn’t wear...
Read moreI have nothing bad to say for the price my girlfriend and I paid. I was really nervous before checking into this motel, for I never had the motel experience, and man am I glad I got to check this off my bucket list. No one stays here because they want to, but more so because they need to, and at the drop of a hat , we booked a last minute reservation successfully. Who would’ve known Motel 6 was so accessible? My experience here so far is everything I expected and could have wished for. The customer service was alright. The men at the front desk looked like they were hoping for better days. That’s cool and all because everything will be okay? Right? I checked in and the smoking floor of course, smelled like cigarettes , which isn’t a surprise, doesn’t bother me much. My room was located on the second floor( a non smoking floor), and of course, to my shocking surprise, I can smell the marijuana cigarettes! I unlock my door with my key card, and the door was wedged shut. We barged our way in and feasted our eyes upon the elegant beauty of the two toned room of white and sea foam green. Looked like a room from a detox I once checked into! There were no amenities, no iron, no extras. Honestly that would’ve been the first time I wasn’t surprised. To top it all off there were homeless folks( no offense to homeless folks at all, I wish you all the best of health), roaming around the building and parking lots at midnight high, looking for rides across town. I thought that was very bold, but hey, when in Portland right? Btw shampoo is for sale, thank goodness , I do t know what I would’ve done without shampoo I had to buy from a vending machine. But hey, it’s the Motel 6 experience and you get what you pay for! At $55 a night, with a seconds notice, YOU can get a room too, and experience exactly what you expected. Honestly I’m comparison to fancier places, Motel 6 gives you what is promised, and met every single expectation ,and for that I am truly impressed. If you’re in a situation and need a quick place to stay overnight, Motel 6 has your back. If you’re in a sober house, and your house manager kicks you out for using jonnies, motel 6 got you. If you’re spouse is sick of your shit, motel 6 will always be there, even during a pandemic. 5/5...
Read moreMuch deferred maintenance, and what has been done was done poorly. The room we were given first was so damp the floors were wet and slippery. The smell was so bad (most likely from not maintained air conditioner units) we asked to change rooms. We were in that room for less than 10 minutes, debating whether we would stick it out or attempt to change rooms. The second room was not as wet, but was in very poor condition. The mold around the rotten window sill, the seal had gone in the window some time ago, was the first thing we noticed; the door lock would not engage, the door had to be shoved to close, it was obvious that it had been forcibly opened more than once; the bathroom door wouldn't close, perhaps the hinges were loose; the hole in the floor next to the tub from being improperly sealed; the vinyl plank flooring had 1/4"+ gaps between many of the pieces; the other repairs in wall and ceiling that had been done were not done by trained people; the pervasive odor of pot in the halls, combined with the dampness especially on the first floor, was sickening If there had been another room available in the greater Portland area for under $300 we would have taken it. We were not in the area for pleasure but a family matter and had a short window to get what we were there for accomplished. We had also been up for 16 hours when we arrived as we worked 9+ hours before driving 4 to get to this location. After checking out at 6:20 am, I had to call the 1-800 number that evening to get a receipt emailed to me. I did give this location over 12 hours to send one to me. Things that could not be completely controlled by this hotel include the person outside our window on their cell phone yelling, swearing, and offering $e× acts for over an hour at 9 pm, several visits by the local police for guest issues, and the people on riverside drive drag racing at 1am. This was probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. 20 years ago I frequently stayed at this chain on both coasts for both business and pleasure and didn't realize the much advertised quality had gone down immensely. There won't be a next time at this location, or probably at your...
