Market Basket — Local services in Westbrook

This is my first visit here since it was built. I live in Gray so we don’t usually shop in Westbrook area for groceries. I have heard from people that they found good prices at Market Basket so I wanted to check it out. First thing is that I saw an army of associates stocking shelves and freezer/coolers! The whole store had a very neat and well stocked appearance. I observed that they have extensive stock choices that other stores do not have. The bread isle is amazing and has extensive choices of bread type items and well stocked. I have noticed other stores I shop at have huge amounts of shelves or coolers not stocked. One store had almost the whole ice cream section not having any ice cream. I also have been in other competitors have like half their bread items not stocked. This store has so many choices of each type of product it’s amazing. As far as pricing, I haven’t done enough shopping here to compare. It appears that pricing seems to be similar to Walmart. The difference at this store is they have a coffee cafe right in the store and also pizza, sandwich, sushi counters also right in the store. Right near the pizza shop there is all kinds of bakery and other prepared foods freshly made at the store. The checkout area has numerous manned cashiers and more than other competitors. The store is way bigger than Walmart food section in their stores. This store is probably as big as the Walmart store as a whole and it has only grocery type products not everything as Walmart does. The dairy, freezer and refrigerated food sections are huge. They also have a very large meats section as other stores are shrinking actual fresh meat displays. Other stores have an actually small fresh meats sections. Dairy has a huge refrigerated section here. My son is vegan and when they come to visit it was hard to find vegan foods at other stores. This store has a very large section of frozen plant based foods. They also have extensive Impossible Meat products selection here while others don’t even carry it. My sons family says they prefer the Impossible brand and we couldn’t find it previously. I will update this review with photos and additional information when I visit...

Look, I like most of MB's products and their prices are decent. A good number of their staff, however, are rude and surly. I had a cashier at the express lane today ream me out for daring to put my items on the belt, then accused me of laying hands on the lady in front of me (which pissed me off because I never touched said lady), and then proceeded to verbally abuse me. So we had a bit of a confrontation which escalated to the point where I told her she could keep my food. So then I started to walk out of the store when I heard her say behind me that my behavior was exactly what she expected from "an old white guy". What a racist piece of garbage! If I'd ever treated ANYONE this way when I was a grocery cashier I WOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED IMMEDIATELY! After I went somewhere else for about an hour to cool down I went back and registered a complaint with a manager named Nick who told me that security would investigate and that I'd hear from them at some point. I hope I do and that I'll be able to edit this review in the future. Then I went to repeat my shopping and checked out with a sweet young lady who had a much kinder disposition.

I wish I could say that this is the first time I've had issues with the staff there but it's not, and apparently other customers feel the same way based on other reviews. If you can't plaster on a fake smile to deal with customers you should find another job, lady. And keep your racist, ageist comments to yourself so as to spare your employer possible civil litigation. Unbelievable. Hope you get canned.

Was there this evening with my partner We were in line. My partner is a 6’2 African man and I am a 5’8 white man i. My 50s . She kept looking at us while I was loading the Belt with our groceries. I had the belt full when she said this line is 20 items only I replied it is, we usually come through this Register and no one has mentioned that. She said look up there on the Pole , I did and she was correct. I responded That was sorry and started Taking the items off the belt. She had an attitude and said no now that you have them up here they have to stay. I said no they don’t I have no problem removing Them and she started scanning. My partner came around and said I will bag as there was no one to bag the groceries She then looked at Him and said what are you doing I said he is bagging for you. She the. With attitude I need to see your ID. He responded I don’t have it and he didn’t as I drove and he had his sweats on. I said he is just bagging The groceries to he doesn’t need an ID to do That. We had 4 bottles of liquor that we were buying for the Easter dinner we are putting on. She raised her voice And said he is buying the alcohol. I said you are ridiculous why would you think that . She Said that’s it I am calling my manager. The manager had no Problem with it . She was Rude the check out process. Didn’t even say thank you...
