Holiday Inn Express Charles Town by IHG — Hotel in Ranson

Stayed with the family to visit Harper's Ferry and Antietam. Great location to visit both, plus other points of interest in the area. Room was clean and well keep but had a musty odor to it that we noticed as soon as we entered. Door was very hard to open the first time that we entered, and hard to close whenever we left the room. In fact, I had to help some other guests up the hall actually get in their room as the couldn't get the door open. We didn't say anything to the front desk about these problems because they were minor issues. The first night we stayed housekeeping did not even make up our room the next morning. Again, not a major problem except that I had to empty our trash that was overflowing. Beds were comfortable and the room included a desk, coffee pot, refrigerator, and a microwave (thus all the trash after the first night - we were tired and ate in the room). The "free wifi" included access for one device per room which was a problem with two adults and two children staying in the room, all with their own device. Breakfast was good, with different items each day. The staff was very helpful, directing us to our destinations and even suggesting can't miss local eateries. The pool was very nice but also cold - it was an unusually cool stretch in July with overnight temperatures in the low 50s. I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn in Charles Town. Every aspect of my stay exceeded my expectations. Upon arrival I was greeted by front desk staff that were polite and Professional. They made me feel welcome and were genuinely happy that I was a guest. Check-in was very quick and efficient. I found that my King room very clean and was very large and spacious. The bed was well made and very comfortable, affording me a good night’s rest. The wi-fi was strong and worked well throughout my stay. The breakfast area was large and spacious allowing you to enjoy your breakfast without intruding on other guests. Breakfast featured eggs, sausage, biscuits, and gravy along with the usual cereals and muffins. This Holiday Inn also featured hot cinnamon rolls and the popular pancake machine. The breakfast attendant did a great job keeping the area clean and well stocked throughout the advertised time. There is a very large, well-lit parking lot in front of the building. This Holiday Inn is located just a short drive from the Hollywood Casino and historic downtown Charles Town. This appears to be a well-managed and well-maintained property that is very clean and modern. Our room was very very clean as was the hotel. Unfortunately the hotel isn’t really within walking distance to anything but has a beautiful pool. The location is ideal to drive to many things though. Our maid tried to enter our room to clean it while we were sleeping. She apologized and said she would come back and never did. Breakfast variety is very nice but front desk staff cannot access plates or anything from the breakfast area after hours. We didn’t use the shuttle but an awesome offer for sure. The beds are a bit too firm for my liking. Our air condition unit did not make our room cold enough. We needed a cold room as it was 99 degrees every day of our trip. Sadly we had a family emergency our last night and had to leave at 8:30pm’ish. The front desk guy didn’t process our check out so I left without a receipt - was told the night auditor would handle the check out. Why would someone process my check out 3 hours after I left? Was stressful enough to leave under those circumstances, would have preferred a receipt done at that moment. We didn’t expect a refund necessarily but might have been nice to offer something.
