My husband and I enjoy the hibachi experience and have visited several such places, mostly good, some better than others. After seeing good reviews we decided to try Ginza while we were away in Charles Town. Big mistake. This place ranks at the very bottom of our list.
The experience seems typical at first, but we quickly realized Ginza was...different.
The salad and miso soup came right out as normal...except the miso soup was beef broth with some mushrooms and such tossed in to look like miso...and I'm a vegetarian. Not cool but not the end of the world.
Then the chef set the grill on fire and made his volcano and all that jazz...all your typical hibachi tricks. Then it was time to fry the rice. I've never seen it done this way before. Instead of heaps of oil and soy sauce, it was heaps of butter and yum yum sauce. I felt sick just watching. But, I figured we were on vacation and unhealthy is often tasty so I took a bite....it was tasteless .....and crunchy. AWFUL texture.
My husband and I BOTH ordered hibachi vegetables. We didn't straight out say "hey, we're vegetarian" but, we've never had to. The remaining 3 people at our table ordered steak and shrimp, which the chef prepared first.
But, this is where enough was enough. He cooks the steak and shrimp, serves it to our neighbors, then takes the filthy spatula dripping with fat and blood, puts it on our vegetables, then moves them from the clean, undisturbed portion of the grill right into the meat juices. I audibly groaned at this point but it wasn't noticed. At this point I was starving so I forced myself to eat what I could (which wasn't great to begin with), paid the tab, and tipped well. I didn't want anything but to talk to someone without causing a scene and leave.
I asked for a manager, explained the situation and that I didn't want anything but to make her aware for the future....and she immediately put the blame on me for not blatantly saying "I'm a vegetarian" despite nearly half of our table ordering ONLY VEGETABLES for dinner. no apology, no empathy, just a nonchalant "you should have told them right away." Unbelievable.
If you have any type of food allergy or dietary preference, expect this place to be inconsiderate and be sure to draw attention to yourself if you do need accommodation. If you don't, expect lackluster food in comparison to a typical hibachi experience. Either way, I'm clueless as to how this place has such...
Read moreThis place was horrible! Party of 16, 60th birthday celebration, had made reservations, did a site visit as it was our first time there, spoke to management to ensure that they could handle our party, including bringing in a cake. The communication was effective with the manager, she was very nice…. From there it was all down hill! The order taking was mass confusion, I have onion allergy, made it clear to order taker, my husband ordered steak and scallops, never got his scallops, and yeah… he did not mention it to me, we were billed for it. A few times the “chef” at our table placed the wrong food to the wrong plate/persons.The server “IVY” was terrible, she would talk to you, and then walk away as you were talking back, no follow up for refills, or checking to see if anything else was needed. Such a sad disappointment. The area in which the tables are, is so very HOT. It was very clear that the AC system is not keeping up with demand, there is even a portable at the front door entry ( should have been my first clue ). Since it was my birthday, I tried my best to enjoy our friends and family of who many had over 2 hours drive to dine here. And here is the kicker! Got home 9:30 pm only to be sick all night and still this morning throwing up ! I absolutely cannot recommend this place for anyone…since it was a celebration and budget was not a factor we sampled many foods so I cannot pinpoint what has made me so ill. In closing, to the manager, when you have a large party, knowing in advance, schedule more than 1 server! This way you can provide a level of service that your pricing commands. Have property better ventilated to provide a more comfortable environment. And please I BEG YOU, never ever have the cleaning person using bleach clean the floors right next to guests while they are EATING ! I understand the need to clean after a seating, but BLEACH???? A few people at my table had to leave the table and their food to get out side for fresh air !!! Bad form !!! Over priced! Horrible service !!! And no coordination ! ...
Read moreWas there on Saturday night for my bday dinner. Party of 4 adults 2 kids. Was immediately sat at a grill table. No wait. Waitress took our drink order and immediately was ready for our food order. Seemed a bit rushed, since 3 of us have never been there and I hadn't even looked through the menu yet, but ordered the Filet Mignon & scallops. One of the kids ordered a child's steak, the others ordered veggie dinners. Cook was not experienced as some of the other cooks at other tables. He cooked and left. No real interaction with us like the other cooks we're with other tables as we sat there and watched. The steaks that came out on the cart looked identical. And I know what a filet mignon looks like. I paid extra for that, but didn't get what I ordered. Cook asked me how I wanted it cooked, I said Med Rare. Which it wasn't. Waitress never came back for refills on our drinks or even asked if everything was ok. Was unable to tell anyone what we had happen. Toward the end of our meal, To-go boxes were sat down with our bills. Never was asked if we even wanted dessert, let alone the whole birthday experience we saw other people get around us. The waitress returned less than 3 mins later wanting the payment and none of us was ready. She stood there till we were. I asked for a bag and got ignored. Asked again when she came back with our change, and was ignored again. As we gathered our stuff and waited for one of the kids to return from the bathroom. A guy came to set up the grill across from us. Pushed all the condiments and such down to our end. Felt really rushed. Another guy came to grab the 4 dishes from our side of the table. The waitress returned to take the order for the other grill table. After she was done, I asked the 3rd time and she finally gave me one as she looked and seen my 2 containers. The food was good. But I won't order or pay for a Filet Mignon again. Service really lacked and did not receive the same service as other tables did for the experience we were paying for ... Or the food we...
