Never heard of this restaurant before and was trying to make reservations last minute on a Friday night and so I called around 2pm in the afternoon and was able to reserve a table for 2 at 730pm. My friend and I had prior reservations for something else and it ended up taking longer than expected and so I called the restaurant to see if I could push back the reservation to 8pm. Whatever host I think Diana or Dana or something answered the phone and she wasn’t that friendly and told me that we couldn’t push back the reservation to 8pm because they were “booked” for the rest of the time slots. I was told there was a 15 minute grace period for late reservation arrivals so we ended up rushing to get over there. When we arrived most of the restaurant was empty and clearly could have taken us at 8pm so that was slightly disappointing. During our entire visit most of the restaurant remained as empty as when we arrived. I work in a restaurant and we always try to accommodate guests when unexpected delays happen and guess that’s just not how they run things here. When we were seated our server, Alyssa, came over and greeted us and she was very kind. Probably the highlight of our experience there. We felt bad complaining to her about some of our items because it WASNT HER FAULT… so please remember when dining at restaurants that it is hardly ever the servers fault when it comes to your food. We ordered drinks and the glass of moscato was a 6 oz pour for $12. Rather skimpy in my mind. I had the Smoked Paloma and that was quite good. We ordered the Kale & Apple salad and it was okay. Tons of arugula and kale but not enough apple, dressing, and cheese. The second thing we ordered was the Truffled Bucatini. My friend and I were sharing these plates together thinking they would be filling for the both of us. The Truffled Bucatini was not as big as we were expecting considering it was $22 to order. The cheese had partially coagulated when it reached our table and just did not taste good at all and not enough noodles to go along with it. Tasted like a prepackaged microwaved meal and so we sent it back. Alyssa was super kind and sweet and removed it from our bill. Overall the ambience was great and our server but we...
Read moreMy wife surprised me with a birthday dinner at Fall Line Kitchen & Bar during our recent vacation to Virginia. Since my birthday falls close to our anniversary, we decided to celebrate both occasions together. Although the restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Marriott, it has a modern ambiance, completely removing any sense of being attached to a hotel lobby.
Our hostess greeted us warmly, and soon after, our server, Sierra, arrived. We started with a local craft beer and a glass of wine. To our delight, Sharon, a manager, brought over a couple of complimentary glasses of champagne to celebrate our special milestones.
The menu was impressive, and we began with a delightful Kale & Apple salad to share. I'm definitely ordering the cornbread next time – it looked absolutely delicious but I knew I had to save room for the main. Speaking of, I chose the highly recommended (belly on) Pork Chop ($40), while my wife opted for the Shrimp and Grits ($28). While the wait for our entrées was a bit longer than expected, the flavors did not disappoint. However, both dishes arrived only warm, suggesting they might have been prepared and left waiting in the kitchen for a while. We brought this to our server Sierra's attention, and she sincerely apologized, offering to take them back and have them reheated. However, we decided to continue enjoying our meals as they were. Moments later, Sharon, the manager, approached our table with profuse apologies and assured us she would take care of us at the end. We were truly touched by their genuine concern and desire to rectify the situation.
To conclude our great dining experience, we shared a perfectly tart key lime pie. Its generous size was ideal for sharing, especially after our plentiful entrees.
When the bill arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Sharon had removed the salad, drinks, and dessert from the bill. This gesture, coupled with their sincere apologies and attentiveness, transformed what could have been a slightly disappointing experience into a truly special dining experience. I would recommend Fall Line to anyone seeking a great culinary adventure in downtown Richmond. Props to Sierra and Sharon for their outstanding...
Read moreHorrible experience with the staff. Last Friday my husband and I had lunch there after coming from chemo and to celebrate his birthday. It started off nice. The manager sat us down and had a little small talk. Long story short at the end we asked for the ticket and I asked the waitress if they did military discounts. She said I need to see your ID. My husband had on his army hat but was eating his sandwich so he first pointed to his hat because his hands were full. She said anyone can wear a hat. He said that’s an insult. I was going to show you the id once I put down my food. She went over to tell her manager, the guy who seated us to tell him about the conversation. At that point he should have come over and said sir, I do apologize but it is company policy or something, anything, just acknowledge the issue. He stood near the bar area. My husband finished his food walked over to the bar and told him about the issue. He proceeded with, “well after you reprimanded her” which NEVER HAPPENED! Jerrell Thomas needs customer service training and to learn how to show more empathy. I had just come from a long chemo session and all my husband wanted to do was treat me to a nice lunch and continue to celebrate his birthday. He reached out to Jerrell’s manager Joshua and explained everything. He was super nice and understanding and apologized several times. He offered a free meal which we didn’t take advantage of we just love GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE which we didn’t get last Friday. This would have been a great learning opportunity for the waitress had she went about it a different way she was only very quick to say anybody can wear a hat. My husband should have felt insulted because he worked hard in serving our country and is a well respected man in our community. After looking at some of the lower reviews it looks like the main issues are the staff....
