I stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Rockford for one night in October 2024.
Overall, I had a very positive experience. The room and the location were good but it was the exemplary service of several of the hotel employees which really stood out and made a difference!
The rooms were decent (3 stars). They are definitely showing signs of age (just normal wear and tear) but they were clean. It was also quiet - I don't recall hearing any noises (in both the room and the hallways) from any of the other guests.
The lobby was really nice though and with water readily available. I was most amused by some cute seasonal paper decorations (of a raccoon and two squirrels) that were on the counter of the front desk. They were very cute (picture included)!
I had no problems with check-in but one member of my group was told that they could not find his name in the system. But once we relayed the actual hotel room number (where their roommate had already checked in), the receptionist was then able to find his name.
The location is fine. The hotel is among a cluster of about a dozen hotels off of I-90 near the exit towards Rockford. Last year I stayed at the Hampton Inn Rockford but I had a much better experience this year at the Fairfield Inn. I did miss the turn on to Bell School Road (which leads to Walton St) multiple times. It is about a 15 minute drive to downtown Rockford, but it is highly recommended you have car access if that is your destination. There are various stores and restaurants in the immediate area and CherryVale Mall is just a 5 minute drive to the south.
I was most impressed by the outstanding service. I was coordinating accommodation arrangements for 13 people spread amongst 8 hotel rooms. I had several phone conversations with Nikita, who I never met in person but she really made a difference in making it a seamless and stress free experience. Nikita was incredibly helpful in adding an extra room to the reservation when we had a last minute change in attendance, in confirming all of the confirmation numbers, and in rearranging the occupants (particularly the secondary names on the rooms). What could have been messy and taken a lot of time became an easy process due to Nikita's efforts.
Nikita was also great in helping to secure early check-in (I checked in around 11 AM instead of the normal 3 PM and it was much appreciated).
Normally, breakfast starts at 6 AM but that Sunday, my group was there for an early morning event and we needed to leave the hotel by 6 AM. Nikita and the general manager (Sarah) were able to contact the hotel employee (Mary) and she was willing to set up breakfast half an hour early at 5:30 AM.
Mary was friendly and helpful. In fact, there are other reviews that also mention how nice she was. Mary mentioned that in the past 7 years, they had never gotten a request to set up breakfast earlier. So the fact that the hotel was willing to be so flexible and hospitable to meet my group's needs definitely makes the Fairfield an ideal location for an organization to make a group reservation.
The complimentary breakfast was delicious. I passed on the standard bananas and oranges and had a generous amount of tasty watermelon and strawberry. The eggs and yogurt were good. I was disappointed by the lack of potatoes/hashbrowns and the orange juice was a little watery. I did not try the omelet, sausage, veggie sausage, or oatmeal. The waffles were popular - instead of one big waffle the machine made 4 small waffle quarters, which made it easier to choose a portion size appropriate for one's appetite. I don't drink coffee but several of my colleagues did. Numerous people commented about how good the coffee was and that it was on par with that of popular restaurants and coffee shops!
I would definitely come back to the Fairfield Inn, and would strongly recommend it for large groups due to how helpful and flexible...
Read moreWe chose Fairfield for our one night stay from 12/31/23 to 1/1/24 since we had to be back in this area for work before heading up to Wisconsin. Check in was fast, lobby was clean and inviting. We had a room on the 4th floor at the far end of the hallway from the elevator. Room and bathroom were both very clean, bed was comfortable, the in room fridge is larger than some hotel room fridges, which was nice for a couple bottles of wine to get chilled for our new year’s drinks as we watched the festivities on tv. Ice makers were working (great for the bottle of cheap wine that wasn’t quite chilled enough when we cracked it open). We took a few minutes in the evening to enjoy the hot tub. The pool and hot tub were both clean, although us and the other couple noticed the hot tub may have been a bit high on chlorine. Honestly I’d prefer that over dirty water though, and it may have been recently adjusted in preparation for heavier use for the New Year’s Eve guests. And the pool room was definitely used that afternoon/evening by families and couples. My only real complaint is the young kids getting in the hot tub from the pool, splashing us in the face as adults were trying to relax and have adult conversations… but that isn’t a reflection of the hotel itself, rather a reflection of lack of manners of the parents who should have kept their kids in the pool (not just out of respect for us and the other adults here without children, but because young children shouldn’t be in hot tubs for health reasons). One big thing I want to note- despite there being families with young children here the same night as us, it seemed as if the hotel staff who put us in rooms kept in mind that couples and singles without children may not want to be next door to families with kids who are generally noisier! As we traversed the hallway and stairs, it seemed as if the families were in the lower floors or at least the opposite end of the hallways from us- greatly appreciated so we could get a restful night of sleep without hearing the rambunctiousness of little children! I typically avoid hotel breakfasts in part due to an allergy (alpha gal syndrome means no mammal meats or byproducts like dairy), and because the cleanliness in some hotels is questionable, but that wasn’t the case here. The breakfast areas were clean and the attendant was on top of keeping everything stocked and tables cleaned and was very warm and friendly with everyone. I had eggs, the turkey sausage and veggie sausage and a bagel and was ecstatic that I had alpha gal friendly options available! The food was hot, fresh, and actually appealing. It may have helped that we beat some of the families with kids to breakfast, but overall the breakfast experience was great compared to many hotels. The price may be slightly higher than some of the other nearby options (and lower than a couple others), but you get what you pay for, and I felt like this one night stay was well worth the...
Read moreAs a bride I have had an absolutely terrible experience with the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rockford, IL. We have received calls, texts, and emails from over half of our guests upset with the customer service and lack of professionalism from this hotel. We were referred to this hotel by our wedding venue The Pavilion Orchard Ridge Farms and could not have been more disappointed with the experience. We booked a block of rooms months in advance and had been ensured that all guest would be allowed early check in as the wedding was at 3:30 and the bus was leaving at 2:30. We are from our of town and as each of our guests including the wedding party contacted the hotel to reserve their rooms and request early check in they were all told that there was no guarantee that anyone would be given early check in. I, the bride, then called very upset asking why they would be told this and was explained that they were unsure of who would have given us the wrong information, however, no one would be guaranteed early check in and more than likely only the bridal party would be allowed this privilege. We feel blatantly mislead in order to obtain business as we had explained this was an absolute must when choosing a hotel for our guests. When you spend over $20,000 on a wedding the last thing you expect to be an issue is your hotel rooms. Being in the hospitality business one would at least expect the staff to be hospitable and this was not the case. No one seemed to care about the issue or try to rectify the situation. We have notified our vendor of this issue and plan to advise our guests to...
