I could rate this as a good B&B, was it not for the terrible end they gave me. Summary: I was accused by the receptionist of a hit and Run in the hotel parking. The police concluded I was innocent, and the hotel owner did not even apologize... and he was there.
More details: Just after I left the hotel, the receptionist called the police and reported a hit and run by me, on her personal car. I was already a 40 minute drive away, when the police called me and requested I come back to the "scene". I was amazed, as I am a very cautious driver. When I got back, I met 2 great young police officers, a lady and a gent, very polite, who asked me to explain. Explain what ? I asked, nothing happened ! The receptionist reported she heard a "bump" when I parked, but I could see no damage, nothing more than any used car has. They checked my rear bumper, that had no marks, and then I parked my car back to her car (same position as I was when I checked out), which is at least 5 years old, with tiny scratches on the rear bumper. They realized that the height difference showed that I could not have made those small marks on her bumper. The hotel owner was called to check the video footage ( Mr. Rich, who I recognized by some pictures in the lobby, as he did not even take time to look at me). I waited for approximately 40-50 minutes. The video was great, as it showed I did not touch her car. So I was "released" by the police. The most disappointing was that no-one gave me an apology at all... sooo disappointing. I will never go back to a hotel that has people that absolutely don't care about their guests.
The B&B is OK. I would rate it 3-4. But would not go back for that price. The "Sail Away" room is very big and comfortable. The living room in the common area where we had breakfast looks very cozy with a beautiful hardwood floor and a veranda overlooking the sea. The main negative part is that the bathroom is VERY small. One time I got up from the toilet and hit my head on the wall in front ! Everything in the room was more on the old side, but all clean. The air conditioning/heating is new.
Why did the receptionist decide to make that call ? It's hard to understand. She clearly asked me if I wanted to add some tip, and I said "no". There was already an envelope in the room for tips, printed "thank you". It is disappointing when you pay a price of $250/night, and still are being asked for tip.
I now carry very bad memories from St Augustine, and their hotel owners and...
Read moreMy parents planned on visiting my family in Jacksonville for the week of Fourth of July, but they decided they wanted to make a beach trip of it while I worked through the Fourth. So, I suggested they stay somewhere on the beach until the 5th, with a plan of us doing a beach day on the Fourth. So, they ended up booking a room at Beachfront Bed & Breakfast. The day of the Fourth my mom mentioned they had a 'no guest policy', which I assumed meant no having a bunch of outside visitors coming to the hotel to party, get crazy, etc etc. to which I said "yeah, we don't plan on staying in the room at all, we just want to use the bathroom and change our baby before driving back home". However, being that my mom didn't want to offend anyone at the hotel, she told the manager that was what we planned on doing as a courtesy. Literally, she asked if we could solely use the bathroom and change our baby before driving home, again... in the room that they rented. The manager said she would need to call the owners to ask, and after waiting a couple hours the manager told them that we would not be allowed to come into the hotel at all. This is where the one star comes from. You're telling me that a 60-year old couple that's paying ~$300 a night can't allow their sober 30-year old daughter-in-law to use a bathroom and change a baby?? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. And to make matters worse, after we went to the beach and pulled our car back to the beach access to load up our chairs, the manager came up to me and my parents and said, "yeah, if you want to hang out with your family you need to stay at another hotel down the road. We want to keep the Beachfront Bed and Breakfast 'exclusive' ". LOL, exclusive?? Seriously?? That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in my life coming from someone working in the hospitality industry -- to blatantly tell their paying customers to go somewhere else because they want to be 'exclusive'. This isn't some country club with a membership fee, this is a tiny old hotel. From the actual exclusive hotels that I've stay in the past, the one thing that they understand is that the customer comes first and they are as accommodating as possible. After all that is said, the rooms, from the pictures that I saw, look very mediocre. The 'nothing special' about this hotel combined with that terrible customer service that I experienced, I can't recommend this 'EXCLUSIVE'...
Read moreWhere should we begin? I give her a star for her staff. They were great! She however is a horrible owner. She accused me of smoking because an alarm went off she says. She barged in my room as soon as it happened, and no one was smoking and the room was not smoky. She had a million excuses why it could be including that I had my door open and it could have came in from outside....well that's not smoking in the room is it? She has chairs and ashtrays exactly 1 foot from outer door. She then proceed to sneak around in the garage by our door. We heard her and I went out to catch her, which I did. She made some BS story again, told us she just didnt want to charge for smoking. I WASNT SMOKING IN HER DAMN ROOM!!! We left promptly in the AM with a day left as I am disgusted by this woman. Now that we left she charged me 200. Now let's get to the building. We stayed in the bottom (STAY AWAY). The bottom rooms are trash! They manufactured 2 rooms out of the underside of the beach house. No outlets in bathroom. Separate rooms for toilet, shower, and sitting area to do makeup..trust me when you see it you'll laugh too. Hell only place to sit in the living area was a outdoor wicker couch in the room. Next the breakfast was horrible. We only ate once. You don't choose your food like at the hotel. They make whatever they want and if you dont like it oh well. Nasty raw egg looking quiche. No thanks. There was also an electric current running through main door handle. Called about it but they were very hesitant in accepting the fact there was a hot current running down the building. I'm not staying in a fire trap!! No air conditioning controls either for your room so you have to deal with freezing air or hot room. We had to open our door most of the time. Also if you can stomach the owner you may have a better stay. Shes constantly around, and doesnt mind bothering you. Came for peace and quiet and barely got any. She walked up as we were talking with other guests and just jumped in our convo and turned it into what she could tell us about her life achievements. The other guests had to sneak away. Lmao I stayed and let her finish(should not have). Anyway, I wish i could give her 0 stars as that's what she deserves. Whomever gave this place quality ratings either are not very traveled or are cheap and stayed in the roach motel next door that she also owns. BUYER BEWARE. The other bad reviews are...
