We wanted a long weekend in St. Pete and ended up finding Casa del Merman on a Google search. The reservation process was completely painless and the pricing is more than fair.
We got a personal text from Bill, the manager, when our day to check in arrived. He gave us a gate code and let us know to text him when we arrive so he can show us around.
Our gate code worked perfectly and Bill was there to give us the grand tour of the place. It’s a charming little bed and breakfast with a heated pool and plenty of space to be yourself. There’s a bar area and vintage video games, a massage room, and several gazebos available. At no point in time did we feel like we were being creeped on, nor did we feel uncomfortable in any way here.
The room was clean and well appointed, mattress was comfortable, and it’s quiet at night. In the morning, Bill is there to greet guests with fresh coffee and a breakfast spread, free of charge.
The location is in a neighborhood where you can feel safe and secure, at no point did we ever feel like we were in any danger. Up the street is a bus line that heads to the inner city area with a lively bar scene and great restaurants. If Uber is your thing, we never waited more than 10 minutes for an Uber. Driving in the area is easy too.
All-in, we had a fantastic experience with Casa del Merman and...
Read moreWhere to begin?!?! Brian has really made this a place to be! Very hospitable and all around great guy. Around noon on the day I was set to arrive he txt me and asked if I would like a free upgrade to a room by the pool and that was just the beginning of my great trip. The room was cozy and very comfortable, eclectic decorations and pride themed collections were tastefully tucked into the layout. The water pressure and hot water were both great. The pool area was well maintained and looked great, very clean and cozy. They have clearly put some work into making it such a cozy, fun, and welcoming place to stay. The hot tub! Absolutely perfect, especially since there was a cold front that came through during my trip and it was so amazing to be able to spend the cold night in a nice clean hot tub! Simple offerings for breakfast, juice, muffins and toast, yogurt, protein bars, anything you might need to a light start to your day. Location was great and easy to get to with parking not being an issue. All in all I was so happy with my time spent here and I can't wait to visit Brian and whiskey, the cutest pup with a strong opinion on...
Read moreWhile staff was friendly, and pool area was ok, the room and the food choices where bad. The room that we were in was probably the worst I have ever been in. It badly needed renovations. The carpet was dirty and the bed spread was very thin and didn't keep us warm at night. There was a hole in the wall and the blinds were filthy. I accidentally touched one and it felt like slim. The room was small and there was no room for a night stand so you had to place your phone on the floor by the bed. The only breakfast item that was remotely healthy was the yogurt, and even that had sugar. All the cereals and oatmeal packages (except The Rice Krispies which they ran out of) were full of surgar or sugar coated and geared towards kids. There was no whole grain breads, just packaged bagels, English muffins, and packaged muffins. The selection of tea was well depleted, and the coffee was really weak. They did provide beer and wine for happy hour and they had a water cooler, but the water tasted like regular tap water. I would not...
