Farmer Auctions — Local services in Salem

I've been a fan of Farmer Auctions for YEARS now. In my experience the listings are accurate and precise (e.g. noting any issues with the item) and the pickup is very well organized (people check you in, help you find your item(s) and get you out easily).

I've had a couple of times where an item "disappeared" from a lot I purchased. They first helped me search to ensure it was not overlooked or moved and then offered to adjust the final price accordingly. IMO always quite fair.

I also wanted to address one item that I see a great deal of complaints over: shipping. I've had a handful of times where I was not available during the pickup time and needed to use the third party shipping company. Was it a bit pricey? Perhaps, but consider this before complaining too loudly. It is a completely separate company from Farmer Auction. You have the option of picking it up yourself. You are CHOOSING to utilize this service. While many have complained about the cost of shipping consider that the following must be including in the price: packaging (time and materials), shipping cost (USPS/UPS/FedEx/etc) and time/mileage for the shipping company to travel to the auction site and transport the items back to their facility.

We felt we would find new homes for our collection of travel treasures, our parents treasures and other items for making life easier and fun!! Little did we realize that we would ask you and your staff to help us navigate through some unexpected hospitalization and recovery. All went very smooth,THANKS due to your willingness to be flexible and understanding during that time. We want to thank your staff that sorted, documented, labeled, took photos of all the items for the auction. Everyone was so professional, polite, helpful, understanding and patient! We want to give a special shout out to 'Shell' who went above and beyond helping me face all the things I was juggling at the time and doing such a fantastic job. It was a pleasure having her stay with us! No doubt in our minds, we picked the right company to work with for the auction. We highly recommend FARMERS AUCTION and have already begun to refer you to others.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS AUCTION HOUSE. BUYERS BEWARE! I purchased a pair of vintage 11 inch dolls at one of their auctions online. I emailed them for a shipping quote and they fobbed me off with a 'third party shipping company' that turned out to be the same man working as part of their in-house staff. The 'shipper' took 1 week to reply with a quote, he then asked for an astronomical shipping cost of over $200 !! No way I would have spent over $200 in shipping for a $85 purchase so I emailed the auction house and asked if it was possible to have the dolls sent via USPS tracked from their auction house, their answer was no and they refused to post my items or offer me another shipping quote. What a scam! I asked for my money back since I did not agree to their extortionate shipping cost and they refused to refund my money ! In the end I lost my money and my two paid dolls. This must be the most disgusting auction house I have had the misfortune to buy from. They behaved like a bunch of thieves and liars, so be very careful if you decide to buy from any of...
