Bed bugs, bad customer service! I booked a room here via Booking .com Arrived few hours later. When I was about to make reservation it indicated that it was last room available. Surprisingly enough, when we arrived there were only 1 more guest's car parked in the entire property! Even now, when I am typing this review at 2 am, there are just a hand-full of cars parked here. I feel like I was mislead in that booking ad!
So, when we arrived, there were NO ONE at the front office! It was 5:30 pm on Friday afternoon during Labor Day weekend! I would expect guests arriving and checking in every minute! Nope, I felt like I was on a scene of "Silent Hill" stage. Even a door bell button was silent despite the notice advising to push it for service... Front office was closed and locked, lights there were off. There was no one around. I walked around to businesses next door. There only advice I got: try calling them again and again - sooner or later they should answer.
I walked to the back of the building and found a doorbell button - now I heard the ringing! I was approached by a very angry non-English speaking woman. She had an attitude of an Angry Russian Babooshkah from classic Soviet Union high-end security prison. I felt like if she had a gun, she would shoot me. Finally, after few sentences later I had begun to understand what she was saying. Yes, apparently she saw me. No, I shouldn't wonder around, but stand and patiently wait for Her Majesty to decide to approach me.
About an hour later that evening I noticed one more guest trying to go through the same quest, that I just completed: office was locked, light were off, and guests were desperately trying to find any living soul around there.
Now it is 2:12 am. I can't sleep. There are some bad bugs here! They crawl and bite me constantly. I am too scared to contact front desk (would it even make sense?) because I remember that very unpleasant experience with angry Front Woman. Somehow I strongly believe that she wouldn't be too happy if I disturb her sweet dreams right now.
Bad things here are: bathroom sink is clogged Bathroom tiles are loose Floor is absolutely uneven BAD BUGS!!!! Unreasonably expensive!

Read moreSo we show up, having reserved Fri and Sat. Their reservation, they say, but won't show me is for Thurs Fri. I say "Oh there has been an error, can I just change it since the place is pretty empty?" ||||"No."||||WHAT? You are empty!||||"Only if I charge you 85 a night instead of the rate that you were quoted."||||"But tonight I still have a reservation for so I'll pay that amount tonight and I am happy to pay the 85 for the other night."||||"No, 85 for both nights. We cancelled you for today."||||"Did you call me?"||||"No."||||I went to the car and told my husband. He goes in with me and he tries again, the same tactics of explaining and asking politely. Nothing. FInally I say, "That's okay, I'm going to go to yelp and all the other review sites. Seems to be that if you had customers sitting in an empty hotel you would work with them."||||Suddenly, they will work with us. Suddenly they will just charge us one night at the higher rate, since they charged our card for the night before. ||||We get to the room, exasperated. It's like a Hitchcock film. No plug for the hairdryer, which they had none of (thank goodness I brought my own.) Bed was like a swayback mare, and I nearly resorted to sleeping in the bathtub on pillows to rest about 4:30 am. The shower had no water pressure at all. Two bath towels for two people. And they were TEENY and THIN. They turn off the air when they clean the room, so my makeup was runny. ||||The topper was how they clean the mattresses. There was one leaning against the fence, it looked like they sprayed it with a hose and let it dry. Grosssssssssss.||||I didn't find it as filthy as others did, which is why I am giving 2 stars, but still.||||Seriously...I wouldn't stay here again. I'd stay in my car first.||||The problem is, Salem's hotels are nearly all 1-2 stars. The city needs to go into some of these places and enforce some standards for cleanliness and such. Salem is our capital city for...
Read moreRoom 116 is a FIRE HAZARD!! The outlets are so loose and the outdated appliances are all connected by extension chords due to the lack of working outlets. My partner and I noticed a couple of the appliances had the third prong removed from the plug in order to fit into the somehow even more outdated extension chord. Since that third prong is the grounding prong that protects the user from being electrocuted, it made the whole electrical system seem even more sketchy.
When we first arrived, the cable box and microwave weren’t working at all. The man came the next day and replaced one of the extension chords, so they ended up working, but the microwave was unreliable and the cable was very choppy and poor quality. So despite receiving power, the appliances never really worked.
I’m no stranger to a budget motel room, and I always flip my mattresses to check for bed bugs. While we didn’t find any bugs, we did find one of the dirtiest mattresses we’d ever seen. The inside of the fridge was also moldy when we looked inside. Luckily we had peroxide on hand and it was a quick clean, but when I let them know what we found, I was chuckled at and told the mini fridge had been off for a while. There was mold practically on the power button inside, so they definitely knew the mold was there. The window in the bathroom was broken at some point and was boarded up rather than replaced. And without a fan, the bathroom doesn’t vent easily and, in turn, smells like mildew.
We originally booked 7 nights here and survived 2 nights before we just left. We didn’t feel comfortable or safe. The staff didn’t seem to take any of our concerns seriously. I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone.
The motel 6 across the street is a bit loud and the housekeepers can be a bit pushy, but is much safer and comfier for the price. You’ll even save a couple bucks at...
