It's only been less than a year since hotels are reopening from the pandemic but wow, I guess they are still hurting. I felt like it was just barely better than a motel 6. Cutting every corner and not budging an inch for anything.
The concierge was polite and professional but I had notes on my check in to be close to the elevator and I am supposed to get a room upgrade if available from the loyalty program with the Marriott Bonvoy membership. I had literally the furthest room down on the first floor with no exits nearby and it was a handicapped room. The room description said king size with pull out couch. It was a queen and the couch was barely a love seat. Definitely not what I thought it was from the description.
The air conditioner was like someone blowing air from their mouth, it was not cool nor was it high velocity.
Definitely not a room upgrade. In fact, it seemed like he squeezed me into whatever was available even though I reserved the room almost a week ago.
There was no toiletries. Nothing except a bar of soap (even motel 6 have lotion and other little surprises). It just felt extremely plain and boring. If I'm paying 200 bucks/night, maybe I'm being picky but I want to feel like I'm spending 200/night. I didn't. It also said 15/ night for parking. I asked him about it but it was kind of confusing. I think he gave me a voucher but I haven't received my final bill and I'm curious if I'll get charged for parking. I mean, the lot is not guarded gated or even room friendly (easily accessible to other parts of the hotel)
Room was not spacious. No view. No balcony.
Extremely plain.
Bar is still not open and the concierge told me it could be, they just can't find anyone to hire. I find that hard to believe. Bartender is an easy job to fill unless they have really bad pay and tight restrictions. I mean, judging by the cheapness of the rest of the place, I feel like the owners just don't care and use the pandemic as an excuse not to have to pay someone to tend the bar. I know it might not be a good revenue builder but it sure would be a great perk since the room was absolutely pathetic. For 200 bucks, I could have stayed 3 nights at a motel 6 and it would probably still have been nicer.
Hard pass.
I'm really starting to regret investing my loyalty into Marriott. Apparently they have franchised all of their hotels and the majority of owners are as cheap as can be. I think that was a horrible move by Marriott and I'm kind of upset that I've invested so much time money and effort into being a member. These stays are a jabbing reminder of how much money I've spent with Marriott. And it no longer feels like I "spent" money but that I...
Read morePaid full price through Booking and then was charged by the hotel after verifying they could see the credit from Booking. Still waiting for my money after being double charged!|When checking in to the hotel for a week, the clerk said he would comp $15/night parking if I joined the Marriott Bonvoy. After explaining that I work for the Military in Germany and Bonvoy would do me no good, he said it was his “thing” to get people to sign up. |I had myself and 2 kids and the clerk gave me a room without a sofa bed. When I said I didn’t touch anything in the room, his response was “That’s what I like to hear.” As if I was a child. |The clerk then charged me a $1700 security deposit!!!|The next day, after seeing the deposit, I spoke with the Front Office Manager Mr. Filer. He apologized and said the security deposit will be removed within a day. Two days later the $1700 deposit was still there so I spoke to Mr. Filer again and was then told it will be removed at check out. The day before I checked out it was removed but at midnight a $420 deposit was then applied.|When checking out I insisted the credit from Booking was applied. The clerk said it was paid in full. Two days later, when I’m back in Germany, my credit card was charged for the amount I paid through Booking. Last Monday, I spoke with a clerk she said a manager would return the charge. Wednesday, I instead to speak directly with Mr. Filer who said he didn’t receive the first message and needs to speak with Booking to verify the charges and would email me by the weekend.|Here it is Sunday night, no message and still have two charges for one week stay at Marriott Rancho Bernardo.|My review: |Staff – as you can read above, totally incompetent. |Room – old and not well maintained. |Parking – This is not downtown. There is plenty of parking so the $15 a night is just gimmick to sign people up to Bonvoy. If Marriott approves of this, they need to stand behind it, don’t force the staff to presser customers into it.|Parking – This is north San Diego, not downtown. Read moreTo begin, you overbooked my room (and 4 of my coworkers) and sent us to some hotel 30 minutes away. You then lied and said it was only a 15-20 minute drive away. (And why? I was coming back the next night. Did you think I wouldn't realize or something?) You also lied and told me you'd "do something special for us" to make up for it. Maybe the free bottle of water is what you'd consider special? Aside from the water, I received nothing at all.
In fact I didn't even receive the free breakfast coupons that every other guest received. Maybe I should have took that as a warning to not eat the breakfast, because it was absolute trash. Why was my croissant freezing cold in the center and stale? The same was true of my banana loaf. And this isn't even the worst part about that cafe. On my last day in this dump I ordered a plain bagel toasted with butter, a banana loaf, and a hot chocolate. After waiting 15 minutes, during which there were zero customers, I had to ask why my order hadn't begun being prepared yet. 5 minutes later I had my hot chocolate, and only then did they ask me what else I had ordered (why didn't they already know? I had just paid for it). So I repeated my order, and another 5 minutes pass and I get a bag with my order and I head out to the airport. As I get to my car I realize what I actually received was an un-toasted bagel with cream cheese packets in the bag. Not at all what I ordered. But hey, at least they cut it in half. After all, 25 minutes is far to short a time to expect a bagel to be toasted and buttered.
Oh and to top it all off, there was a 2 foot radius around the AC unit where the carpet was completely soaking wet. There's nothing I enjoy more than putting on one of my limited pairs of clean socks in the morning than immediately stepping into a puddle of water in my hotel room.
This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I can assure you that neither me nor my coworkers will ever stay here again. I will actively take every opportunity to recommend that they avoid this hotel like the...
