Decent, but with the amount of issues, the price is too much. Bathroom doesn’t vent air/steam out, sometimes the light switch randomly turns off in there. The room feels very humid, and it’s impossible to remove any humidity thus feels uncomfortable most the time. Spiders were a big issue at first followed by ants. The bathroom sink, bath, and toilet kept getting clogged, followed by the kitchen sink. The door and windows didn’t seal, so the road noise was an issue as we were in the last room closest to the freeway behind us. There’s no dumpster, only two small trash cans outside which ended up overfilling daily. Our unit had a couch pull out bed, but it came without any bed sheets. The TV is pretty small and over 10 years old (still 720p), luckily the HDMI inputs worked so I could stream online. However, the WiFi is extremely slow, unstable and cuts off all the time. The lamp next to the TV has absolutely no switch or way of turning it off aside from unplugging it behind the counter it’s on, which we ended up just covering with a blanket. The kitchen countertop hood light didn’t work. Throughout the day you can hear the banging of cabinets from the room adjacent to ours, and in the bathroom you could hear the people. I have no idea why they designed the bathroom right next to the stove either, terrible placement. Wall plugs are either hidden or non-existent past one or two. The kitchen table is a huge thing stuck to the side wall, yet it has no leg room underneath, nor the ability to sit more than one person due to the structure underneath. The king bed felt terrible in general but one side was completely worn out. For some reason it only has a night stand on that awful side and not the other. The door key cards constantly fail and so you have to go to the lobby to get it reprogrammed. No safe inside the room, so didn’t feel comfortable letting room service in while away. Space feels tiny and cramped with two adults and a child despite being the biggest room offered. I refused to do any laundry here, as the first time I went to the laundry room, the washing machines were absolutely disgusting —in fact see the attached picture. Sometimes you could hear people arguing pretty loudly even as far as the next building over, sometimes it was a bit concerning. There’s also no elevators anywhere which was an issue sometimes. Now the pros. Customer service in the lobby was amazing, every time you needed anything they would provide it or personally help you do it. You could borrow any household kitchen items, including everything needed to make a meal and eat. There’s plenty of parking space throughout, and they don’t mind if you need to do any quick car work. However the parking is an added extra cost. There’s nightly security monitoring the parking lot. Lastly there’s a dedicated smoking area away from all the rooms, however, sometimes people would still smoke right outside the rooms. All in all, there’s just too many cons to give it anything higher than 2 stars after spending about three months here.

I WILL NOT BE LETTING THIS GO!! Your pettiness and discrimination cost us a lot of money today!!! I COMPLAINED FOR 2 WEEKS ABOUT THE SMOKE. You left a letter on his door on the first day we were there. I actually wondered why my room wreaked so bad the first night. Not a single person in management cared my toddler had to breathe that all night long. I found out today that they will actually be so petty as to ban you from ALL ESA properties for leaving a valid—though not favorable—review. True story. Handed my son’s father a printed out copy of my review and everything. That is retaliation to go against something we were previously told is okay and to lock us out before we were able to finish with the room. That is retaliation at its finest. Isn’t that actually insane? Also, I had to report them to the ADA for discriminating against us when we moved dangerous items out of reach of my high-support-needs autistic child. We had approval to move those items, yet they claimed we “trashed the room.” Do not stay at these properties if you are disabled. I will absolutely be making this known to my community. This place is disgusting. We were forced to move rooms with our sick, disabled child because our neighbor was smoking so much weed and cigarettes in his room that my child began hyperventilating. It took all day for them to facilitate the room change. We finally got access a little before 5 PM—with no confirmation for most of the day that they would even do it (they said they had to check if they had a room available first). They know this guest is doing this, and one look at the cameras would confirm he’s still doing it. Yet, he’s allowed to stay. I returned at 8:41 PM last night to finish taking out the trash, sweep up (my toddler had a meltdown and threw cereal), and move items back to where they were. Instead, I was completely locked out. This is a safety issue—my child is profoundly disabled, and we disclosed this to the office when we checked in. I will be reporting this to the ADA as discrimination. We’re being kicked out because the room was not safe for my autistic child. We were explicitly told it was okay to move items upon check-in because of his disability. We did everything we could to accommodate his needs safely, and now they’re claiming we “trashed” the room. We’re being forced to leave after paying for the room—as if we didn’t have to scramble to move everything at the last minute due to their failure to address a guest clearly breaking property rules. I went back to put everything back in place and was locked out. We even told them we were locked out, and didn’t get to finish unloading the fridge. But somehow, this is all being blamed on us. Like the bed skirt was ripped when we got there. I assumed to cover the quarter inch thick dust under the bed with misc items from previous guests. But SURE I TRASHED YOUR ROOM. I am LIVID.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. All the staff, Paula, Gladys and the entire gang of room service etc, they’re amazing at what they do. I’ve stayed here long enough to know. They try their utmost, AND succeed, at making your stay as good as possible. They’re some of the easiest people to communicate with and you can get any extras that you may need while you’re staying by simply communicating with the staff. “Easy is as easy does” and this has been one of the easiest and best stays at a long term hotel that I’ve had (they beat motel 6 by miles by the way). The rooms are really good, no bugs, nice beds and the customary TV and table, which is quite big actually (the table). A comfy chair with leg rest built-in. The bathroom is roomy, and there’s a kitchenette and a good sized fridge. Stove top with 2 tops to cook on and also a microwave. As for anything negative, sure, some guests can be a bit different, and sometimes you see a skip at the back parked a bit randomly for some cleaning purpose, and yes, once or twice (in 3 months) I’ve seen some odd car in not so good shape parked at the very back (or one person constantly working on his car like it’s an outdoor car garage), and it makes you wonder. But that’s not a reflection of the staff and their efforts, or the hotel rooms themselves, which are simply stellar. There’s also security that shows up late at night on occasion. For outdoor space, there’s a small area where you can sit, with decorative lights hanging through the trees. Then there's designated areas for your dogs too (and the majority of people do pick up after their dogs) with bags and trash bins kindly provided specifically for your four legged friends. This pet friendliness makes this place all that better. Laundromat on site and it’s not usually busy unless you’re doing it on a Sunday. A machine or 2 has been out of order but the far majority work fine. They’re coin operated and no clothes of mine have been lost so far. The staff let you know in good time if any repairs are going to happen, sometimes it’s a 24 hour window but that’s fair enough. Again, I can’t say enough good things about this place, especially the staff who really shine. I don’t tend to give 5 stars lightly, and though any place can always improve, the staff here is what makes it 5 stars. Thank you!

Subject: Extremely Dissatisfactory Experience at Extended Stay America, Mission Valley, San Diego.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with my recent stay at Extended Stay America in the Mission Valley area of San Diego.

My colleagues and I checked into your establishment on Wednesday, March 8th, and from the outset, our experience was far from satisfactory. The issues we encountered were numerous and significantly impacted our stay:

Lack of Utensils: We were informed upon check-in that there were no utensils in the rooms for cooking, a basic amenity we expected to be available.

Infrequent Maid Service: The information provided at check-in revealed that maid service was scheduled only once every two weeks, a surprising and inconvenient policy.

In addition to these initial disappointments, Room #373 on the 2nd floor presented a litany of problems, including:

Mold Odor: The room had a pervasive smell of mold, causing discomfort and concern for our well-being.

Poorly Maintained Furnishings: The recliner in the room had noticeable tears, and the overall impression was that of substandard furnishings.

Maintenance Issues: Several items, such as the wall lamp switch, the air conditioning unit, and the table lamp, were either broken or not functioning properly.

Hygiene Concerns: Mold was visibly present on the air conditioning unit, the overhead smoke alarm, and the borders of the tub. The bathroom also harbored flies, and the toilet did not drain properly.

Cleanliness: The cleanliness of the room, especially the dirty floor under the dresser and the completely dirty hardwood floor, was unacceptable.

Safety Concerns: On the third night, between 1:30 and 2:30 am, there was gunfire within the hotel complex, creating a serious safety concern for myself and my colleagues.

Due to the cumulative effect of these issues, my colleagues and I decided to check out on Saturday, March 9th. This decision was made with great reluctance but was driven by the unacceptable conditions we encountered during our stay.

I want to emphasize that each of the aforementioned problems has been meticulously documented. Considering the amount we paid for our stay, we expected a far better level of service and accommodation.

To address these concerns and to seek resolution, I am reaching out directly to you. I believe customers deserve better quality service, and I hope that by bringing these issues to your attention, positive changes can be implemented at your establishment.

In light of the challenges we faced during our stay, I also invested in additional cleaning supplies, such as 91% rubbing alcohol, lemon Lysol spray, and Clorox Cleaner + Bleach spray, to make our environment somewhat more...
