This property I picked for the price and the proximity to the beach. I was excited because I was planning to stay 16 days in total. There is free breakfast included which was amazing and an above average looking staff and clientele, truly. Why 3 stars? Read on. Firstly, the 2nd leg of my trip I booked two reservations - one directly with the hotel and then another with Expedia because my status with them gave me a great deal over the direct rate. So, when I checked in, I asked to cancel the direct rate (I had only paid $37 upfront) and was assured it was no problem and the refund would happen “immediately.” The 2nd night I came home in a bad mood and had a heated conversion with a fellow bunk mate. I apologized and it was resolved quickly. The next day the front desk guy summoned me via WhatsApp to the front desk “Fouad Alkisswani, come see me” - felt like I was going to the principals office. He very angrily asked me to leave because of the incident the night before. I found that strange because at breakfast he was so friendly. So I asked him, was it because of something I did (transparently, self adulation) that morning (while I was out the door) and he said “oh yes that too!” What? He assured me that he would issue a refund immediately. He didn’t. Mid-day I called and was told “they’re speaking to the manager” - around 6pm the reservation was still active and in the Expedia app, it was too late to cancel. Note that I sent a message to the hotel, email, and was told 2 emails were sent to me. They were not. I still don’t understand why the front desk associate was so angry. I was very polite, and it is the institutions’ prerogative to not house any guest, assuming human rights laws aren’t violated, so I didn’t put up a fight but I did ask a lot of questions. I called Expedia to dispute the reservation and was told they would get back to me within the hour and that they did indeed receive an email from the hostel. The problem? I have nowhere to stay and no money, which they know. Oh, and the internet they provided me was quite slow, so I switched to the other one which was much faster. Odd that there’s two.

I traveled solo to San Diego to visit family and felt right at home at this hostel. The location was perfect being right above a taco shop, across a Starbucks, and by Mission beach and Belmont park. It was also by souvenir shops which was nice too. The staff were amazing and welcoming especially Nik Z! Thank you Nik for the delicious bbq food and becoming a new friend. The rooms were great too. They had storage underneath the beds where you could use a lock if you wanted. Each bed had a separate light, fan, and outlet. The lounge area was so nice with a projector, full length mirror, comfy seats and extra things like board games and a keyboard plus a cute stuffed bear. They also had an event every night and it felt like camp ! I befriended so many ppl in my room and in the lounge and kitchen. This was my favorite part since I came solo and it was cool meeting ppl from other parts of the world and I plan to still keep in touch with them. I miss them already! The kitchen had tables, a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, stoves, plate, and everything needed to make or reheat food. They provided breakfast ingredients for cooking. The bathrooms were always clean too. The towel service for $2 was great in case you didn’t bring a towel for showering. They also sold other items like mouthwash and candy which was nice as a backup. I loved the postcard they gave us and how there was a chat for any meetups or questions. I felt very comfortable and safe here! Since this place is by the beach it did get loud at night but they had free ear plugs for us. There’s no AC but with the cool weather in San Diego and portable fans placed at each bed it wasn’t an issue. I’m also happy that they had WiFi for us. Every staff member I interacted with was also very accommodating and had answered all my questions. I really loved it here and will definitely come back! Thank you for making my stay so amazing. I love how staying at this hostel felt like I joined a new community especially with all the new friends I made during my stay !

My stay at ITH Mission Beach Hostel was a blend of comfort, camaraderie, and an unbeatable closeness to nature, all thanks to its prime location just a block away from the calming ocean. Right from the get-go, I was welcomed by the friendly staff who went out of their way to make everyone feel at home. Camilla, Zoey, Daniela, Julia, and of course, the ever-attentive manager Bruno, weren’t just staff but became friends who were genuinely interested in ensuring a great stay for all of us. The hostel had a clean, cozy, and vibrant atmosphere. Each morning, Bruno and his team were up and about, ensuring everything was spotless and in order. The rooms were simple yet comfortable, with fresh linens and a light, airy feel that immediately put me at ease. The communal areas were always buzzing with friendly chatter among guests, making it easy to meet new people and share travel tales. What set this hostel apart for me was its amazing location. Being so close to the beach meant spontaneous walks by the shore were the norm, and the cool sea breeze was a constant companion. It was relaxing to wander around the neighborhood, with its quirky shops and cafes – all within walking distance. This place embodied a sense of community and ease that made my stay not just enjoyable but memorable. ITH Mission Beach Hostel is not just a place to sleep, but a spot where memories are made, with the sound of the ocean as a beautiful backdrop. The warmth and dedication of the staff, the clean and inviting ambiance, and the prime location make this hostel a gem in Mission Beach. I left with a bag full of memories, new friendships, and a promise to myself to return to this charming abode by the sea.

First of all, in conclusion, ith mission beach is awesome. It takes 3 minutes to walk to the mission beach to see the sea. The breakfast is very delicious, the atmosphere is very good, and everyone is very friendly. If I come to San Diego again, I will continue to stay here. I recommend all my friends to stay here! The following is my experience in ITH.||||After the trip to Los Angeles, San Diego is the second stop of my solo trip. On that day, Amtrak was supposed to arrive at the station after 8 o'clock, but it was delayed for two hours and did not arrive until 10:30 (I will never take Amtrak again). Old town transit is dark and cold, surrounded by homeless people like zombies. The Uber of the people around me has arrived, but mine haven't arrived yet. I can only run to a crowded place, but someone is following me behind me. It's really scary. I feel like I'm almost dying there 😭😭. After a century, Uber finally came. However, I couldn't find ith after looking for a long time (it may be improved here). Then I called, Ethan came out to pick me up, and I finally checked in. But when I checked in, there was a drunk man in front of me who wanted to talk to me. Now I know that he was not malicious, but I was really scared at that time, and I felt that the whole world was a bad person. I was tired and sleepy, and my English was not very good. I was confused and helpless. Ethan taught me how to use the password, introduced the kitchen, toilet, bathroom, etc., but I didn't understand much at that time. I was lying in bed and just wanted to change another place, so I sent a message to the hotel's customer service saying that it was not good here and I wanted to leave. The customer service was very patient and said that he would contact the manager tomorrow. I fell asleep with the idea of making up for the whole night and leaving tomorrow.||||The next day, I woke up very early and slept well. The sunny day after the rain in San Diego made me feel good. At this time, I actually felt that this youth hostel was good, and I wanted to tell hotels that I could continue to live here. I went to the kitchen to make some breakfast, but I used the wrong tool and fried two eggs on the waffle pan with no oil. The pan is sticky. At this time, a British accent sounded behind me. It was Rueben. He asked me if I was Emma and how I was doing. He also said that he would deal with the pot without worrying about it, and then skillfully helped me clean up the pot. After that, I went out to play (I went to Midway, Balboa Garden and La Jolla Beach to see the beautiful sunset).||||When I came back at night, Rueben, Ethan and I talked about why I wanted to check out yesterday. I talked about my experience and said that I think it's good here now, and I'm very sorry for the bad comments the day before. When the matter was settled, Rueben said that there was a poker event tonight, and then I went upstairs to order takeaway. When I was waiting for the takeaway, I played the piano in the youth hostel, which was very good. (I will also buy a small electric steel in the future.)Rueben came over and changed a few poker tricks for me. It was so magic. With his British accent, I was stunned, as if I had seen the Hogwarts magician.||||After dinner, I played a poker game with Rueben Ethan Risa and a bro (sorry forgot his name), it was very fun! I didn't know that different activities would be organized every day. After the game, I tasted the chicken legs made by Josue and ate the watermelon cut by Ethan, ending the day in San Diego very happily.||||On the third day, I made another waffle breakfast. This time I made it much better than last time. I put some spices on the fried eggs, which was fragrant. After breakfast, I went to the mission beach for a walk with Risa. Risa is also a girl who came out to play by herself. She is only 22 years old. She is also very brave! I chatted with her very happily😀. After that, I went back to ith to check out and chatted with several guests. Everyone was very friendly. Everyone came to the youth hostel for different reasons. Although I couldn't understand it most of the time, I felt that I had fallen in love with everyone chatting with me. Thank you ITH for giving me such an experience☺️. I'm very happy that I chose solotrip this time. I'm very happy that I chose ITH. I think I will always...

Upon arrival at the hostel, I experienced difficulties obtaining proper directions for late check-in due to my delayed flight, as the individual struggled with communicating in English; however, this issue was resolved 30 minutes later. The room felt stuffy, but thankfully there is air conditioning. I understand that it's a hostel, but perhaps consider allocating a larger space for dorms, as it's clear that there is inadequate storage for luggage, which creates a tripping hazard. Privacy is a concern: while I acknowledge that it's a hostel, not everyone wants to see others brushing their teeth and spitting in the only sink located in the hallway, where people are constantly walking around. I found this arrangement to be unusual and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there are no sinks or mirrors in the restroom/shower areas, and having to share only one sink to wash hands after bathroom use is unreasonable. I also think men and women should not be living in the same dorms, unless you are prepared for potential liability issues in the event of an allegation of inappropriate behavior. The staff were really nice and answered my questions or concerns. Unfortunately, the fellow with the long hair and dreadlocks was not very pleasant. The vibe wasn't working for me. Something was off about that individual, and I felt uncomfortable even talking to him or approaching him. The staff in general are great overall. The location itself was okay, but expect no grocery stores near the beach other than junk food and beer. The beach is just minutes away from the hostel, which was excellent. Room cleanliness: You see the staff cleaning every day, but they don't clean the rooms very well. There's trash under the beds, dust near the windows, and near the bunk beds, the pillowcase had stains, and the cover for the mattress also had stains. I don't know if the staff is just lazy about changing the bedding in general, or if they just can't afford proper soap to get rid of bed stains. I had high expectations for this hostel when it comes to cleanliness in the dorms because the reviews were good, which makes me wonder if the reviews are just fake, written by bribed guests to do positive reviews. The guests I met were wonderful, and some not so much. I don't know if they are antisocial, but some of the other guests seemed stuck up. I'm a social butterfly in general, but when you get funny vibes from other guests, I won't approach them. My overall experience was great though. Would I come backn absolutely not due to the high volume of guests staying in the dorms due to my anxiety, would i recommend this Hostel to my friends? No. Would i recommend it...
