This was my first visit to Sandbar and quite frankly, my last. The atmosphere is fine. I like they have upstairs seating. Although I am not so well at doing stairs I chose the upper level for the view, even though it was overcast. The staff was friendly enough at first. We received our waters, which were not chills and hardly any ice. I was happy they are a Pepsi-serving establishment. I am a Pepsi person. I ordered chips and salsa. The chips were good. The salsa had a nice kick. Just wished it was more of a pico de gallo style. The sauce of the salsa threw me off. The girl who brought the chips looked like she'd rather be someplace else. No smile, no song of we needed napkins or silverware. We ordered our food. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, my friend ordered a steak salad. It took over 25 minutes to get our order. I was giving them some grace because the kitchen is downstairs and the girl bringing the food had to go up and down the stairs. The food was pretty good. It comes with air cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole. I got no guacamole. I'm allergic. We still had not received napkins or silverware so we had to wait. I did notice the bartender serving brought silverware & a stack of napkins to the other tables prior to their order coming. After we received our order, there was no other service. Not one person stopped to see if I or my friend needed or would like any more water or anything else to drink. Each person working there that day that passed our table didn't even look our way. I needed more pico de Gallo for my quesadilla. I had to get up and ask some guy that was working on the tv's. That took another 15 minutes. They even came to clean the table next to us and still didn't bother to ask. I started to get up and walk out without paying. That's how bad it was. When the bartender did finally come to collect for the bill, there was no smile, no how was your meal and drinks, just instructions how to pay, and of we wanted the receipt. My friend said no, but I wish he would have got it. The bartender is a young dude with locs. The other guy server was young as well with a short haircut. He looked mixed. There was another server but I didn't see him come on the floor up there, only by the bar. This was a disappointing first trip. I won't go back based on the horrible...
Read moreCame in with a friend in the late morning and we each ordered a beer and a meal (I had fish and chips, my friend had the huevos rancheros). It took almost 10 minutes for the bartender to take our order (it was NOT busy and we were sitting at the bar where there were only like 2-3 others) because she was too busy talking with her co-workers. I'm a server in a restaurant and I have no problems with someone doing this as long as they have taken care of their guests first.
After ordering, we waited for 20 minutes and a guy and girl came in and went upstairs and another guy sat down at the bar next to us. The guy next to us ordered his food, and 10 minutes later he had it and a food runner took the couple their food upstairs. We still waited. 10 more minutes pass before the bartender even comes back over to us and realizes we don't have our food (we were about to cancel the order and pay for our beers and leave; the bartender was flirting with some new guy who had come in for the last 10 minutes and put in his order before she came over to us)
Finally, a full 45 minutes (I am NOT exaggerating) later we get our food and my fish and chips are absolutely gross. They looked, felt and tasted like they had been in the window under the heat lamp for the last 30 minutes. At the same time that we get our food, the guy whom had the bartender had been flirting with gets his food (5 minute wait for him). The manager happens to walk by and I talk with him and tell him what happened. He was very nice and apologized and took 10% off the bill (are you kidding me?).
Our other friends were waiting for us so we quickly finished and asked for our bill (the bartender kept flirting with the same dude and it was difficult to get her attention for anything) which she gave to us with the paltry discount. It took another TEN MINUTES for her to come back over to us and run our cards because she was too busy talking to the guy on the other side of the bar. Fish and chips and huevos rancheros are not difficult, time-consuming dishes to make, but it took us a full one hour and five minutes to get our simple food and leave. Despite all of this, I still tipped (mostly because of the 10% discount, which is still meaningless.
I will never, ever, in a million years...
Read moreI understand that this place is "tourist" spot, but you would think that the food would be a little better. This was our first time here even though we visit San Diego every year. We wanted to sit downstairs outside but they wanted to force us to sit upstairs but after we walked up there it was so crowded we told them no. After sitting down we ordered the carna asada tater tots, wings which were for appetizers, and two bacon cheese burgers. The food came out all together which was annoying but okay fine. The carna asada was not that, it was more like a flank steak with literally no seasoning. Absolutely terrible. I dont understand how they can pass that off as carna asada. The cheese burgers were horrible. The patty tasted like a "Bubba" patty from Walmart with absolutely no seasoning and very under cooked. I didn't even eat past the first bite. The fries that came with it tasted like store bought fries that I get when I do my grocery shopping. Was definitely not worth the 15 dollars. The only reason I gave 2 stars was the wings actually tasted pretty good. They were crispy and the sauce was decent. We would have told the server just so he could take the burger back and I would have just been satisfied with the wings but the minute the food came, that was the last time we saw him. Then, when it's time to pay, you have to scan a code thats on the table and "sign up" for some service just to pay the check! Totally stupid. So we just went into the bar to pay. I ended up paying 30 dollars for two burgers that we didn't even eat but whatever, lesson learned. We will absolutely...
