Five stars.....Because it exists! Patricia's Green is a symbol of the city making the correct decisions after the removal of the Central Freeway Octavia off-ramp, which cast a literal dark shadow over the dicey neighborhood. After the 1989 earthquake the ramp was eventually torn down, leading to a revitalization & new hipster haven. Rightly named after Patricia Walkup, a dedicated local activist often seen cruising in her big vintage car, a superhero fighting neighborhood crime, and campaigning successfully for the freeway removal. There's actually more seating here per sq foot than other larger parks. The green itself does not look or feel inviting for a picnic or sunbathing but someone did. It's a neighborhood gem - love the outdoor gym, skateboarders and shops. Dogs and fur parents were all well-behaved. Don't think it's off leash and most dogs are leashed anyway. No problem at all the times I have been there with a small pet, but I was warned by a fur-parent of a pepper-sprayer hitting back at her son's barking dog. So, beats nothing, but as with any urban area, approach any stranger...
Read moreMy dog Mr.Chuckie and I discovered this place about 3 1/2 weeks ago. We have been there several times since then. Mr.Chuckie LOVES this little park. Although there are a few reputable food,coffe and an ice cream vendor here on "the Green" ,I haven't tried any of them to date. The main thing I wanted to say is this may be the last bastion of(and for) really good people. On a weekend outing with Mr. Chuckie I lost my wallet. I got a letter in the mail @ a week later from a citizen who found and wanted to return it and everything that was in it. So this morning that's what happened. Wow. I love it....
