Extremely Disappointing Experience at YH - BEIJING 颐和北京
Location: 500 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117
I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at YH - BEIJING 颐和北京 on Haight Street, and it was, without a doubt, the worst dining experience I've ever had.
First, the food was terrible. The dishes I ordered were dry and flavorless. The fried rice, which is usually a staple and a safe bet at any Chinese restaurant, was exceptionally dry and lacked any taste. It was as if it had been sitting out for hours before being served to me.
However, what truly made this experience unbearable was the abysmal customer service. One of the employees, a lady who seemed to be in charge, was incredibly rude. From the moment I walked in, she looked at me with disdain and made me feel extremely unwelcome. She was mad, angry, and looked at me so aggressively—it was as if she was totally insane, like a maniac. Her attitude was not just unprofessional but also blatantly racist. She appeared to treat other customers, who were white or Chinese, with courtesy, but she was visibly unhappy with my presence because I am brown.
This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. No one should ever feel discriminated against or uncomfortable because of their race, especially in a city as diverse as San Francisco. The attitude and service I received at YH - BEIJING 颐和北京 were beyond disappointing—they were offensive.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you're looking for good food and respectful service, I suggest you go elsewhere. YH - BEIJING 颐和北京 failed on all fronts, from the quality of their food to the basic principles of customer service and...
Read moreFor having one of the largest Chinatowns in the United States, it's surprising how hard it is to find good chicken and broccoli in San Francisco. Despite living closer to Chinatown, I consistently order my chicken and broccoli from YH Beijing on Haight Street. The glowing reviews caught my eye, and after trying their dish once, I’ve been hooked ever since. There’s too much risk in trying other places and being disappointed, but YH Beijing delivers perfection every time.
This is my favorite Chinese-American dish, and it's perplexing why it’s not more prevalent in my immediate vicinity. Sometimes you find Chinese broccoli, but that's a different experience. For some reason, chicken and broccoli is harder to come by in Chinatown, or maybe I’m just not looking hard enough.
YH Beijing’s chicken and broccoli has to be the best in the city. The portions could be a bit larger, so if you have the extra cash, consider ordering two servings, especially if you're sharing. The tender chicken, smothered in that classic brown sauce recognizable from Chinese restaurants, is simply divine. The generous amount of broccoli perfectly complements the dish. It always comes in a convenient take-out box, making it perfect for those cozy nights in.
If you're a fan of chicken and broccoli, YH Beijing on Haight Street is the place to go. Highly...
Read moreWhat a nice, tasty addition to the neighborhood! Lower Haight is lucky to have a range of cuisines, from Thai and Japanese to Italian and Ethiopian, but it curiously lacked a solid Chinese spot. I am so glad YH Beijing opened up here. Two of my favorite dishes which we ordered were executed very competently here: beef pancakes and fish in hot chili oil. The beef pancakes were flavorful and crispy, and the fish was satisfyingly hot and spicy without being greasy. There are a number of my favorite dishes (xiao long bao, zazang noodles) on the menu also, along with meatless options that I am always happy to check out, so I am excited to come back and explore the menu. The restaurant looks fantastic after the recent remodel, and our server was absolutely wonderful and gave great recommendations. Give them a shot!
UPDATE: Still as delicious as ever! They have updated their menu, but the mainstays are still there and still delicious, though we mourn the loss of the beef pan fried bao (unfortunately it's now pork). The mala chicken and songshu fish fillet are both fantastic chef's specials, and the fried tofu is a nice, crunchy appetizer. I tried the xiao long bao trío and really enjoyed all of them. The mala XLB were definitely an interesting and delicious twist, but the original pork remain...
